Men’s Basketball (11-2, 0-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 1/3 — Kutztown 96, Penn State-Berks 59 Sean McKeon (jr. Phoenixville/Phoenixville) scored 19 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked five shots to lead Kutztown to a 96-59 win over Penn State-Berks.  McKeon was 9-of-11 from the field and had all five of his blocked shots in the first eight minutes of the game.  Jeremy Coombs (r-fr. Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic), Dave Ben (so. Coatesville/Coatesville) and Mark Bower (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) scored nine points each for Kutztown, while Max Foye (fr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) added eight. 

SAT 1/6 — Kutztown 69, Indiana (PA) 64  Andre Woodlin (so. Philadelphia/Central) and Ben scored 16 points apiece to lead Kutztown to a 69-64 win.  Woodlin was 5-for-9 from the field and hit 6-of-9 free throws, while Ben was 5-for-14 from the field and 4-7 from the line.  He added nine rebounds.  McKeon scored 13 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked three shots.  Stephen Dennis (fr. West Chester/Henderson) led KU with seven assists and six steals.

SUN 1/7 — Kutztown 79, Clarion 69 - Ben scored 22 points as Kutztown defeated Clarion, 79-69.  Ben was 7-for-12 from the field with three from downtown and 5-for-7 from the line.  Dennis had a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Golden Bears.  Dennis, McKeon and Bower each had two blocks.

Women’s Basketball (4-9, 0-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

WED 1/3 — Kutztown 71, Penn State-Berks 34 - Kutztown held Penn State-Berks to just 34 points en route to a 71-34 victory.  Rachel Wisemiller (fr. Hazleton/Hazleton) scored 13 points, while Kelley Healey (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) and Jess Brady (sr. Wescosville/Emmaus) added 10 points apiece.  Laura Petriello (fr. East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) pulled in a game high seven rebounds.

SAT 1/6 — Indiana (PA) 82, Kutztown 65 - Four players scored in double figures to lead Indiana (PA) to an 82-65 win over Kutztown.  Vivian Melvin (fr. Chichester/Chichester) and Healey scored 12 points each, with Wisemiller scoring 10.  Wisemiller added seven assists.  Mercedes Van Wagner (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) pulled in a game-high 11 rebounds. 

SUN 1/7 — Clarion 63, Kutztown 52 - Clarion had three players score in double figures to lead the Golden Eagles over the Golden Bears, 63-52.  Lara Dellegrotti (so. Berwick/Berwick) scored a team high 15 points for Kutztown.  Van Wagner notched 14 points and pulled in a team high six rebounds.

THU 1/4 — Kutztown 28, Messiah 13 – Kutztown defeated Messiah 28-13.  Cory Weiss (so. Gilbertsville/St. Pius X) pinned his opponent in 4:48 at 125.  Joe Kemmerer (jr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) won his bout at 133 by a technical fall in 3:10.  Chris Chambers (so. Holland/Council Rock South) won at 149 by a major decision, 11-2.  At 174, Roy Gecelosky (sr. Annville/Palmyra) won by a major decision, 12-4.  Kyle Davis (r-fr. Peckville/Valley View) pinned his man in 1:44 at 197 and Rich Dalmas (fr. Mountaintop/Crestwood) won his bout at 285, 6-3.

SAT 1/6 — PITT-JOHNSTOWN 22, KUTZTOWN 15 – The meet came down to the last bout, but Pitt-Johnstown defeated Kutztown, 22-15, as the Mountain Cats notched a pin at 285 to seal the win.  Kemmerer won his bout at 133, 7-2.  Chambers won by a 6-3 decision at 149.  At 157, David Zeek (fr. Newtown/Council Rock North) won in overtime, 11-7.  Kevin Kalbach (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown) won at 165, 6-2, and at 174, Curtis Beardsell (so. Warminster/William Tennent) won by a 6-4 decision.
