Baseball (22-2, 4-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       THU 4/5 — KUTZTOWN 7, ADELPHI 6 (7 inn) - The #4 ranked KU Baseball team defeated Adelphi, 7-6.  Ryan Loper (sr. Boiling Springs/Cumberland Valley) was 1-for-3 with a home run and was the winning pitcher, tossing three innings of relief with two strikeouts.  Derick Reis (jr. Jim Thorpe/Jim Thorpe) started, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings.  Darin Gorski (fr. Mount Joy/Donegal) picked up his first collegiate save after pitching the seventh.  Mike Kacelowicz (fr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) was 2-for-3, Mike McCardell (sr. West Chester/Henderson) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and Jason Mills (sr. Hatfield/North Penn) was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

MON 4/2 — 1st/4 - Kutztown placed first at the Muhlenberg Invitational at the Lehigh Country Club.  The Golden Bears finished first shooting 352 on the afternoon.  Muhlenberg was second (384), Dickinson came in third (411) and Franklin & Marshall was fourth (438).  Holly Shubilla (sr. Wilkes-Barre/GAR Memorial) shot an 81 on the par 72, 5,843 yard course, placing first.  Angie Petak (jr. Brockway/Brockway) finished in third place shooting 88.  Bethany Adams (so. Schnecksville/Parkland) was fourth (89).  Tristin Suzenski (sr. Pottstown/St. Pius X) placed eighth (94).  Lauren Foulke (so. Kempton/Kutztown) tied for 12th (100).

TUE 4/3 — KUTZTOWN 9, MILLERSVILLE 0 – KU swept Millersville, 9-0.  Santiago Baquerizo (so. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) won first singes, 6-3, 6-0.  Lukas Labitsch (so. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) defeated his opponent at second singles, 6-1, 6-2.  At third singles, Gernot Gruss (fr. Rheinland Pfalz, GERMANY) won, 6-1, 6-1.  Lukas Beman (sr. Woodend, AUSTRALIA) won fourth singles, 6-3, 6-0.  At fifth singles, Somdeep Appineni (sr. Hyderabad, INDIA) defeated his opponent, 6-1, 6-0 and Rubens Vianna (jr. Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) won, 6-0, 6-2 at sixth singles.  In doubles action, Baquerizo and Labitsch won at first doubles, 8-3.  At second doubles, Beman and Vianna won 8-1 and Appineni and Gruss won third doubles, 8-3.

Women’s Tennis (1-3, 1-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

MON 4/2 — Kutztown 5, West Chester 4 – Kutztown defeated West Chester 5-4.  Rohini Das (fr. Kolkata, INDIA) won her match at first singles, 6-3, 6-2.  Priya Pachkawde (jr. Nasik, INDIA) won at second singles, 6-3, 6-1; and at third singles, Sabrina Arnaud (sr. Pintendre, CANADA) won 7-6, 6-2.  In doubles, Pachkawde and Arnaud won at first doubles, 8-5. Das and Kelsey Borak (fr. Allentown/Salisbury) won second doubles, 8-4.

TUE 4/3 — MILLERSVILLE 7, KUTZTOWN 2 – Kutztown lost to Millersville, 7-2.  Das and Pachkawde won their match at first doubles, 9-7.  Das also won her singles match, 6-3, 6-0 at second singles.

Outdoor Track and Field

Last Week’s Action

FRI 4/6 — at PSAC East Outdoor Challenge — Four field events were completed at the PSAC East Outdoor Challenge.  The remainder of the meet was canceled due to the weather.  Kutztown highlights in the completed events were Benn Trasatt (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) in the hammer.  He placed eighth with a throw if 114-0.  Chris Boutsikaris (so. Andover, NJ/Newtown) finished sixth in the javelin with a distance of 173-7 and Brian Ford (so. Harleysville/North Penn) came in seventh with a distance of 173-6.

Softball (23-13, 5-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

MON 4/2 — Kutztown 11, Indiana (PA) 6 – Steph Denlinger (so. Harleysville/Souderton) hit her 13th homer of the season, a three-run shot in the first inning, in the 11-6 win against IUP.  She was 1-for-3 with three RBI.  KU jumped out to an 8-0 lead in game one.  The Crimson Hawks cut the lead to 8-5, but Jennie Lincoln's (jr. Stafford, VA/North Stafford) pinch-hit two run homer in the fourth broke it open.  Maria Schiavo (fr. Old Forge/Old Forge) was 4-for-5 with three runs; Kim Morrison (so. Newmarket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) was 2-for-5, with a long ball, two runs and two RBI; and Krista Cameron (so. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.  Kaitlin Arbogast (fr. Ambler/Wissahickon) got the win, striking out nine over seven innings.

Kutztown 10, Indiana (PA) 8 – KU completed the sweep at IUP with a 10-8 win.  Denlinger and Cameron homered in KU's three-run third.  Denlinger was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer.  Adriane Willmer (sr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) was 2-for-5, with two runs; Cameron was 2-for-3, with two runs; and Lindsay Bennett (jr. Rising Sun, MD/Rising Sun) was 2-for-3.  Rachel Weidensaul (jr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) was the winner, striking out seven in the complete-game effort.

WED 4/4 — Kutztown 10, Shippensburg 3 – Kutztown defeated Shippensburg, 10-3.  Arbogast pitched a complete game, striking out 12, for the first victory on the afternoon.  Denlinger was 2-for-4 with three RBI.  Willmer and Morrison were 3-for-5 and Cameron was 3-for-4.

  Kutztown 10, Shippensburg 1 (5 inn.)Denlinger hit three home runs to break her own season record in a 10-1 win at Shippensburg.  The sophomore's three home runs gives her 17 on the season, breaking the record she set last season, 16, as a freshman.  Denlinger finished 3-for-3 with seven RBI.  Cameron went 3-for-4 with two RBI.  Ashley Fitzgerald (so. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.  Weidensaul pitched five innings for the win.  She struck out four.
