KUTZTOWN 5, MANSFIELD 4 (10 inn.) -
Mike Kacelowicz's (fr.
Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain)
RBI double drove in the winning run in the 10th inning in a 5-4
win against Mansfield. KU took a 4-0 lead into the seventh
inning, but the Mountaineers belted five straight hits to score
four runs and send the game to extra innings.
Jachowicz
pitched 3.2 innings of relief for his second win of the season.

started the game going four innings and struck out five.

KUTZTOWN 2, MANSFIELD 0

McCardell

Matt Keller (sr. Fleetwood/Fleetwood)
combined on a four-hit shutout in a 2-0 win over Mansfield.
McCardell
struck out six over four innings, allowing three hits.
Keller
pitched the final three innings for the save, his first of the
season. KU scored both of the game's runs in the fourth inning.
SUN 4/29—
Kutztown 9, Mansfield 8
– Kutztown defeated Mansfield 9-8. KU was led by
Craig, who
was 1-for-4 with a grand slam.
Loper was
3-for-4,
Bond 2-for-4
and
Dan Gavlick (sr.
Medford,
NJ/Shawnee)
1-for-3 with two RBI. Mansfield stormed out to a 4-0 lead in
the first, but KU answered with a five-spot in the third.
Paul Cashin (sr.
Collingdale/Monsignor Bonner)
scored on a bases-loaded error, then
Craig
smashed the grand slam for a 5-4 lead. It was
Craig's
fifth homer of the year. The Golden Bears took the lead for
good in the fifth on a two-run homer by
Gavlick, his
second of the season.
Phillip Rummel (jr.
Exeter/West-Mont Christian)
pitched the complete game for his seventh win of the season.
Kutztown 5, Mansfield 2
- Kutztown completed the sweep over Mansfield with a 5-2
victory.
Gorski took
a shutout into the seventh inning. Mansfield scored two runs,
but
Gorski
finished the game for his fourth win of the season.
Kacelowicz,
Rausch,
McCardell
and
Gavlick each
finished with two hits.
Loper scored
two runs.
Kutztown improves
to 43-3 overall, one win short of the single-season record for
victories, having won its last 14 straight games. KU's .950
winning percentage in PSAC East games is believed to be the best
finish ever in the division. The league victories match the
Golden Bears' team record of 19 PSAC East triumphs, set in
1999. KU was 19-5 that year, when there were seven teams in the
division.
Loper has
played in 206 career games, setting the school record. (205, Al
Fitch, 2000-03). Loper
has 215 hits for his career and sole possession of second place
on KU's career list.

Gettysburg. Dickinson was second (378), followed by Gettysburg

Franklin & Marshall (452).

4/27 — at Penn Relays —
Kutztown
University's women's 4x400-meter relay placed first in its heat
at the Penn Relays. The team of
Spangenberg,
Marchand,
Quinn and
Tor-Agbidye
ran a time of 3:49.37.
Tyson placed
sixth in the eastern flight of shot put with a throw of 52-7
1/2.
SAT 4/28 —
at Lehigh Invitational
M: Kutztown
University junior
Tyson set
the school record in the shot put, to lead Kutztown's track &
field teams at the Lehigh Games.
Tyson tossed
the shot 54-1 inch, bettering the previous record of 53-5 1/2 by
Mike Fantanarosa in 1994. It was the third oldest men's outdoor
field mark in the record book. The performance was also an NCAA
provisional effort. Other event winners for the men were
Hixson in
the 400 (50.10) and
Dodds in the
pole vault (13-11 1/4). The 4x100 relay team of
Branam,
Crider,
Hixson and
Shappell
came in second in 43.60.
Hartzler
placed second in the high jump (6-4).
Boutsikaris
finished second in the hammer (150-8) and third in the javelin
(187-11).
Justin Gibbs (jr.
Pottstown/Pottstown)
came in third in the 110 hurdles (14.94) and
McKeever was
third in the 800 (1:56.78).
W:
McMurray
placed third in the high jump with an NCAA provisional height of
5-6. Event winners for KU were
Horstman in
the 400 (1:00.09),
Williams in
the 1500 (4:47.81) and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The 4x400
relay team of
McMurray,
Horstmann,
Schlecter
and
Watson
finished first (4:07.12) as did the 4x100 relay team of
Speakman,
Quinn,
Deller and
Tor-Agbidye
(48.64). In the long jump,
Deller
placed second (16-10 3/4) and
Butler came
in third (16-10 1/2).
Marchand
came in third in the 110 hurdles (16.24).
Tor-Agbidye
finished third in the 100 (12.81) and

Arbogast
pitched a complete game for the 8-2 victory. She struck out
eight. She also upped her innings pitched to 205.2 on the year,
bettering the record of 205 by Tiffany Mattiuz in 1995.
Denlinger
was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.
Cameron
was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and
Bennett
added two RBI.
Kutztown 10,
Mansfield 2 - A five-run
fourth set KU up for the 10-2 win over Mansfield. The inning
was highlighted by Cameron’s two-run shot. She moved into
second place on KU's career homers list with her 24th.
Weidensaul
went the distance for the win.
Morrison
was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Willmer
finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
Denlinger
was 2-for-2 with a run, RBI and three walks.
Fitzgerald
added four RBI.
SUN 4/29 —
KUTZTOWN 6,
MILLERSVILLE 2 -
Arbogast
set Kutztown's
single-season record for pitching victories, as she improved to
25-7, in the 6-2 win over Millersville. The previous record of
24 was held by Tiffany Mattiuz (1995).
Schiavo
was 2-for-2 with an RBI.
Willmer
was 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Fitzgerald
was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Kutztown took the lead for good with four runs in the sixth.
Cameron,
Fitzgerald
and
Dani Spalik (sr. Johnson City, NY/Johnson City)
had RBI singles, and KU scored
another run on a wild pitch.
MILLERSVILLE
4, KUTZTOWN 3 -
Millersville scored two runs in the seventh for a
come-from-behind win, 4-3, over Kutztown.
Weidensaul
pitched 6+ innings, taking the loss.
Arbogast
pitched the remainder of the seventh inning.
Schiavo
was 2-for-3.
Fitzgerald
went 2-for-2 with a walk.
KU won its first PSAC East title
since 1994, when it shared the title with Bloomsburg. KU also
set school records for the most overall wins in a season with 40
(KU won 38 in 1995) and wins in the conference with 22 (KU won
19 in 2000). As a team, Kutztown added two season records -
hit-by-pitches (24) and sacrifice flies (18).
The loss in game two against
Millersville snapped the Golden Bears' school record 22 game
winning streak. KU hit four doubles on the afternoon to set the
PSAC single-season record with 119 (118, Bloomsburg, 2000). The
team also set the PSAC single-season record for extra-base hits
with 185 (181, Lock Haven, 2006).
The Golden Bears shattered more
individual records this week.
Steph
Denlinger had five RBI to
set KU's single-season RBI list (67, previous mark was 63 by Jen
Schock in 1995). She also set the KU record for total bases
(144).
Denlinger
broke the PSAC record for walks in a season, currently at 43. Ashley
Fitzgerald has 19 doubles
on the year for a single-season record.
Krista
Cameron
has 18. Three other players held the previous record with 16.
Maria
Schiavo
recorded her 23rd sacrifice hit to set a single-season record.
(22, Stacey Necessary 1996).
Adriane
Willmer
broke the single-season mark of at-bats of 191 (Marcy Lieb,
1995). She now has 203.
Willmer
also set the career runs score with 171 (168, Lorie Erie).
