Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

       FRI 8/31 — at Bucknell Invitational —  KU opened the 2007 season with an unscored meet consisting of three-mile runs for both the men and women. The women had three runners finish in the top 10 — Kristin Cupido (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) finished sixth (18:05), Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) seventh (18:10) and Joanna Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown East) ninth (18:23). Tom Mooney (fr. Churchville/Council Rock South) was the only runner for the men to finish in the top 10 with a time of 15:18, good enough for seventh. Rounding out the top five for the women were Hailey Dell (jr. Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) and Christina Reimer (fr. Chester Springs/Downingtown East). KU’s top five men were Mooney, Ben Loht (so. Lewistown/Indian Valley), John Pyne (jr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt), Tim Ballingall (fr. Downingtown/Downingtown East) and Pat Bone (sr. Doylestown/Central Bucks West).

Last Week’s Action

SAT 9/1 - KU 5, Southern Connecticut State 1 —  Alyssa Maltese (so. Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) scored two goals and keeper Sam Flowers (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) made seven saves as KU opened the season with a win at the Shippensburg Tournament. Anne Waapu (r-fr. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND), Lyndsay Butler (sr. Annandale/Summit) and Tristin Ludy (jr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) also scored goals in the win, and Kelley Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had two assists in the game.

SUN 9/2 - KU 4, St. Michael’s 1 — Healey scored twice as KU concluded the Shippensburg Tournament with a win. Waapu and Maltese also scored in the contest, and Flowers made four saves.

WED 8/29 - Shepherd 5, KU 1 — KU’s James Robinson (fr. Chester, ENGLAND) scored his first goal for the Golden Bears, but Shepherd took an early lead and never looked back in KU’s non-conference loss.

SAT 9/1 - Millersville 1, KU 0 — KU keeper Ryan Kratz (sr. Perkiomenville/Boyertown) made six saves, but a goal 51 seconds into the PSAC contest was all that was needed for Millersville to claim the win.

Women’s Soccer (2-1-1, 0-1-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

WED 8/29 - KU 5, Shepherd 1— Julie Folsom (sr. Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland) scored two goals, while teammates Carolynne Kahl (fr. Bethel/Tulpehocken), Kelly Bushe (fr. Neptune City, N.J./Neptune) and Trystin Figel (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) each had a goal as KU roll past Shepherd.

SAT 9/1 - KU 0, Millersville 0 (2OT) — Stefanie Bonsky (fr. Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Reg.) made four saves as KU played four scoreless periods against Millersville in its PSAC East opener.

MON 9/3 - Mansfield 2, KU 1 — Kim Kelty (sr. Levittown/Neshaminy) scored a game-tying goal early in the first half, but KU did not score again as Mansfield scored the gamer-winner late in the second half, handing the Golden Bears their first PSAC East loss of the season.

WED 8/29 - KU 3, BOWIE STATE 0 — Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) had 34 assists, 17 digs and four service aces and Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) had 12 kills as KU swept Bowie State in the Golden Bears’ home opener.

FRI 8/31 - SAT 9/1 - at Shippensburg Raider Classic

FRI 8/31 - KU 3, Limestone 2 — Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle) notched 21 kills and Waters had 18 as KU opened the Raider Classic with a hard-fought 3-2 win. Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) had 21 digs and three service aces, while Kelsey Nester (fr. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had six kills and eight blocks.

KU 3, Davis & Elkins 0 — Kinney had 41 assists, while Waters and Confer each tallied 12 kills in KU’s shutout win. Biuso added 14 digs.

SAT 9/1 - KU 3,  Anderson (S.C.) 2 — Biuso set the single match and career school records for digs with 46 against Anderson and 1,485 for her career. Waters had 21 kills and nine blocks, while Kinney added 49 assists and 12 digs. Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 13 kills, and Confer and Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) had 11 and nine kills, respectively.

KU 3, St. Rose 0 —  Waters recorded 12 kills and four blocks, while Kinney had 43 assists as KU remained unbeaten. Confer posted another 10 kills and Celia added 10 digs and four service aces.
