Field Hockey (14-1, 8-1 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 10/3 - KU 7, SLIPPERY ROCK 0 — Kelley Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored two goals and had two assists as KU defeated Slippery Rock Wednesday at University Field. Abbey Sheeler (fr. Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) also scored two goals in the PSAC contest. KU goalkeepers Sam Flowers (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) and Melissa Watson (fr. Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes) both had an easy day in goal for No. 4 KU as Slippery Rock did not collect a shot. Jennifer Belfatti (jr. Hatfield/Lansdale Catholic), Carrie Healey (so. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Lyndsay Butler (jr. Annandale, N.J./Summit) also scored goals.

       SAT 10/6 - KU 3, Seton Hill 0 — Flowers and Watson worked together to collect the shutout as KU defeated Seton Hill Saturday. KU scored all three of its goals in the second half to secure the non-conference win. Jessica DeNault (so. Hamburg/Hamburg) scored minutes into the second half to make it 1-0 and Whitney Stum (jr. Landisburg/West Perry) made it 2-0 at the 51:16 mark off an assist from Butler. KU’s Carrie Healey made it 3-0 with 5:14 left, taking a pass from Monica Detweiler (fr. Souderton/Christopher Dock). Watson made all five of the Golden Bears’ saves.

       SUN 10/7 - KU 4, Slippery Rock 0 — Kelley Healey scored two goals to lead No. 4 KU to past Slippery Rock in PSAC field hockey action Sunday morning. Healey scored her first goal 43 seconds into the game. She gave KU a 3-0 lead midway through the second half.  Both scores were unassisted. Heather Hoxter (sr. Glenmore/Octorara) scored off an assist by DeNault, while Blayke Narehood (fr. Lewistown/Indian Valley) scored her first collegiate goal late in the second half. Flowers had two saves in the cage, as KU outshot the Rock 22-5.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

       SUN 10/7 - MON 10/8 - at Gannon Invitational — Samantha Rumbley (fr. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) shot a 78 to lead KU into third place after one day at the Gannon Invitational. Kelli Pry (fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) and Angela Petak (sr. Brockway/Brockway) both shot 79s Sunday as KU posted a 318, one ahead of Gannon and 13 off the leader, Allegheny (A-team). The University of Findlay is in second place of the two-day event with a 314. Krista Tressler (fr. Fayetteville/Heritage Academy) finished with an 82, while Lauren Foulke (jr. Kempton/Kempton) shot an 87. Erica Dechowitz (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) rounded out KU's golfers with a 93. Rumbley, Pry and Tressler all posted career-best scores Sunday. KU resumed play in the final round Monday.

Men’s Soccer (1-13-1, 0-12-0 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       MON 10/1 - Shippensburg 7, KU 0 — Shippensburg outshot KU 30-13 as KU was shutout in a PSAC contest Monday. KU’s Ryan Kratz (sr. Perkiomenville/Boyertown) made five saves, while Matthew Fredericks (so. Montdale/Lakeland) made two for the Golden Bears.

       THU 10/4 - WEST CHESTER 6, KU 0  — KU took a second-half lead, but couldn't hold on to defeat visiting West Chester in a PSAC men’s soccer matchup at Keystone Field Thursday. Greg Sassaman (jr. Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Reg.) threaded the needle between several WCU defenders to find Jake Young (so. Blandon/Fleetwood), who scored the game's first goal at the 68:19 mark. Fredericks had five saves in the net for KU.

       SAT 10/6 - MILLERSVILLE 3, KU 2 — KU struggled to find the equalizer on Senior Day, falling to Millersville Saturday at Keystone Field. Young and Matt Kade (sr. Quakertown/Quakertown) both scored goals in the game, but the Golden Bears couldn’t overcome three first-half goals by Millersville. Kade scored with 21:24 remaining on an assist from Sassaman to cut it to 3-2, but that was as close as KU got. Billy Frosoni (jr. North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) recorded the assist on Young’s first-half goal.

Women’s Soccer (8-4-2, 4-4-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       MON 10/1 - KU 2, Shippensburg 1 — Jen Tice (fr. Barnegat, N.J./Southern Reg.) scored the game-winning goal with less than five minutes left in the second half, as KU completed the season sweep of Shippensburg Monday afternoon. All of the game's goals came in the final 25 minutes. Angela Corrado (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) scored off an assist from Carolynne Kahl (fr. Bethel/Tulpehocken) at the 65:42 mark. Tice broke a deadlock at the 85:26 mark, scoring off a pass from Kim Kelty (sr. Levittown/Neshaminy). Stefanie Bonsky (fr. Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) had two saves in net for KU, which outshot the Lady Raiders 19-6.

       THU 10/4 - WEST CHESTER 1, KU 0 — West Chester slipped past KU 1-0 in a PSAC East matchup. KU's Bonsky had four saves in 80 minutes.  WCU outshot the Golden Bears 9-6.

       SAT 10/6 - KU 2, MILLERSVILLE 0 — Bonsky recorded her third shutout of the season at KU defeated Millersville Saturday in a PSAC East game. Kelty tallied an assist on the game's first goal, passing to Kahl for the 1-0 lead 9:42 in. It was Kelty's 10th assist, tying the school record for assists in a season (Tanya Woods, 1992). Kelty, upping her career total to 27, is three away from Lauren Tatro (2001-04) who owns the school record for assists in a career. Kelty helped set up the insurance goal by crossing the ball into the box to Julie Folsom (sr. Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland) who then passed it on to Kelly Bushe (fr. Neptune City, N.J./Neptune), making it 2-0 with 16:41 left.

Men’s Tennis (0-0, 0-0 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 10/6-SUN 10/7 - at PSAC Individual Championships (at Shippensburg) — Santiago Baquerizo (jr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) won the 2007 PSAC men’s tennis singles championship on Sunday, defeating teammate Lukas Labitsch (jr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) in the finals. Both worked together to win the PSAC Doubles title Saturday. Baquerizo and Labitsch both won semifinals Sunday morning to set up the all Golden Bear finale. The singles victory is the second in three years for Baquerizo, who won as a freshman before losing in the final last fall.

 

Women’s Tennis (0-2, 0-0 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 10/6-SUN 10/7 - at PSAC Individual Championships (at Shippensburg) — Rohini Das (so. Kolkata, INDIA) and Barbara Joerns (so. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) reached the semifinals of the PSAC women's doubles championship Sunday morning, but fell one win short of a trip to the final at the PSAC Championships. Das had the most success in the singles tournament for KU, reaching the quarterfinals of the singles tournament.

 

Women’s Volleyball (18-4, 4-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 10/2 - KU 3, EAST STROUDSBURG 0 — KU used late runs in all three games to sweep East Stroudsburg Tuesday at Keystone Hall. Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) had 29 assists and seven digs in the PSAC Eastern Division match as KU won with games scores of 30-24, 30-23 and 30-21. East Stroudsburg kept the games close but each time, with the score knotted in the low 20s, KU created some cushion and sealed the deal. Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) and Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) led the way with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Confer also had six digs. Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) notched a team-high 22 digs, while Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) and Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) each had 10 digs. Kelsey Nester (fr. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua) had a few key kills, six in all, for the Golden Bears, while collecting two service aces and three blocks. Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had eight kills and two blocks.
