Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/3 - Women 3rd/24 NCAA EAST REGIONALS — The KU women fell six points shy of earning their fourth straight trip to nationals, finishing third behind Bloomsburg and Edinboro Saturday at the NCAA Division II East Regionals in Lock Haven. KU scored 87 points, with two runners finishing in the top three. Bloomsburg, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion, took the region with 62 points, and Edinboro finished second with 81 points. Individually, Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) and Joanna Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) will return to nationals to represent the Golden Bears after finishing second and third, respectively. Williams ran the 6K race in 21:28. Horstmann took third with a 21:38. Williams and Horstmann were named All-Region with their top-15 finish. Maureen Watson (so. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) finished 19th with a time of 22:31. Kristin Cupido (fr. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Reg.) was 29th at 22:46, and Hailey Dell (jr. Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) trailed Cupido by seven seconds to finish 34th. Kristin Green (jr. Camp Hill/Camp Hill) and Jolene Collins (so. Annville/Palmyra) rounded out the Golden Bears’ top seven, finishing 73rd and 77th, respectively. Green crossed the finish line in 23:46 and Collins in 23:51. Williams and Horstmann will compete at the NCAA Championships, in Joplin, Mo., on Nov. 17.

       SAT 11/3 - Men 13th/24 NCAA EAST REGIONALS — The KU men finished 13th at the NCAA Division II East Regionals Saturday in Lock Haven. Edinboro won the region with 47 points, edging out Slippery Rock, which had 58 points. Lock Haven, Shippensburg and Mansfield rounded out the top five. KU scored 319 points. Patrick Bone (sr. Doylestown/Central Bucks West) led KU with a 27th-place finish at 32:26 in the 10K race. Tim Ballingall (fr. Downingtown/Downingtown East) finished 70th for the Golden Bears at 33:53, while Kevin Rodgers (fr. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby), at 33:58, finished 71st. Ben Loht (so. Lewistown/Indian Valley) and John Pyne (jr. Harrisburg/Bishop McDevitt) finished 75th and 76th, respectively, with identical times of 34:05. Matt Cocciardi (fr. York/York Suburban) ran the 8K course in 35:25 to finish 109th. Tom Mooney (fr. Churchville/Council Rock South) was set to finish around 40th place, but he fell ill close to the finish line, eventually crossing the finishing line in 148th place, at 38:53.

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/3 - Bloomsburg 2, KU 0 (NCAA Division II quarterfinals, at Lock Haven, Pa.) —  Bloomsburg scored twice in the second half to defeat KU in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs. KU's Sam Flowers (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) recorded 14 saves in the game, while facing a barrage of shots. Bloomsburg outshot KU 23-2, and 15-0 in the second half.

 

Women’s Volleyball (27-8, 8-2 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 10/30 - Shippensburg 3, KU 1 — The KU forced a 1-1 tie with Shippensburg, but couldn’t hold onto a game three lead, falling in four games to Shippensburg 3-1 Tuesday at Keystone Hall. Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) led the Golden Bears with 15 kills in the PSAC East match. KU, after dropping game one 30-26, tied it at 1 with a 30-18 win in game two, but after holding a lead in game three, the Golden Bears fell 30-27 and 30-23 in consecutive games. Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) had 12 kills and four blocks, while Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) collected 33 assists, 13 digs and two service aces. Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville) recorded 22 digs. Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 20 digs and three service aces. Kelsey Nester (fr. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua) finished with nine kills and four blocks, while Katie Miller (so. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had a team-high six blocks. Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) had 10 digs, two blocks and six kills.

       THU 11/1 - KU 3, East Stroudsburg 2 Waters had 18 kills to lead KU to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over East Stroudsburg in the regular-season finale Thursday night. KU won the first game 30-27, before ESU rattled off 30-21 and 30-18 wins in the next two games. KU evened the score with a 30-23 win in game four, before cruising to a 15-8 win in game five. Waters added three blocks for KU. Confer had 15 kills and Nester had 14 kills and 11 blocks. Miller had nine kills and seven blocks. Biuso had 27 digs and Kinney had 53 assists and 10 digs. Cunliffe notched 21 digs and seven kills.

       SAT 11/3 - KU 145, East Stroudsburg 99 Ashley Singer (sr. Lititz/Warwick) set a pool record and won two individual events to lead KU over East Stroudsburg. Singer won the 200 free with a time of 1:55:37, breaking the pool record held by KU assistant coach and former Shippensburg swimmer Erin Goodhart. Singer also won the 100 free (54.47) and teamed with Steph Jeppensen (so. Bethlehem/Liberty), Kelli Pry (fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) and Jill Pantelides (sr. Lansdowne/Archbishop Prendergast) to win the 200 medley relay (1:56.24). Jeppensen also was a dual winner, taking the 100 back in 1:04.37 and the 200 back in 2:20.09. Pry won the 100 breast in 1:11.55 and the 200 breast in 2:37.22. Kerry Choplin (fr. West Deptford/West Deptford) won the 1,000 free in 11:07.19 and the 500 free in 5:26.88. Laura Heebner (jr. Easton/Easton) rounded out KU's event winners, taking the 200 fly in 2:18.54.
