— KU rallied to win game
four and jumped out to a 4-0 lead in game five, but a 7-1 run helped
Edinboro close out KU 3-2 in the quarterfinals of the Pennsylvania
State Athletic Conference Championships at Shippensburg. KU won game
one 32-30, but two straight losses of 30-28 and 30-27 handed
Edinboro (26-9) a 2-1 lead. The Golden Bears evened the match at 2
with a 30-25 win before falling 15-9 in the final game.
Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area)
led the Golden Bears
with 18 kills and
Erin
Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne)
had 12. Their combined
30 of KU’s 53 kills were not enough to overcome Edinboro’s 74 kills.
Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield)
had 43 assists and 14
digs.
Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach, N.Y./Ward Melville)
had a team-high 19 digs.
Jamie
Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone)
and
Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury)
also had double-digit
digs with 16 and 12, respectively.
Cunliffe also had
four service aces, while

SAT 11/10-SUN 11/11 - 6th/8 at Penn State Classic —
KU opened its season at
the Penn State Classic in State College picking up its first three
wins in its inaugural season. KU, which finished sixth at the event,
rolled off two straight wins to close out Saturday’s games and
posted a 1-3 record Sunday to finish 3-7. Saturday, the Golden Bears
defeated Briar Cliff* 847-841 after beating Medaille 831-752. Prior
to the two wins, KU lost to Mohawk Valley* (832-814), Penn State*
(913-889), SUNYIT (790-756) and Shippensburg* (812-798). Sunday,
during baker game competition, KU beat Mohawk 778-658, but lost to
Penn State (754-622), SUNY IT (655-585) and Medaille (671-606).
Kayla
Stamm (fr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin)
and
Jacquelyn Heimbach (jr. Easton/Easton)
led KU Saturday, with each bowler collecting two 200-plus games.
Stamm,
who averaged a team-high 184.5, rolled a 211 and 201 Saturday.
Heimbach had
games of 205 and 200 to push her average on the day to 183.
Stamm
and
Heimbach finished
fifth and seventh out of 50 bowlers.
Steph
Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson)
tied for 15th.
Ray
averaged a 173
with a high of 190, while
Jenna
Palermo (jr. Allentown/William Allen)
provided the spark in the Golden Bears’ win over Briar Cliff with a
double in the 10th frame.

three spots in the 200 butterfly, 100 butterfly and the 50 freestyle
en route to a 149-111 win over Edinboro Saturday at Keystone Hall.

each had two first-place
finishes, including their top finish in the 200-yard medley relay

of three Golden Bears in two separate events.
Arnold finished
first in the 200 butterfly at 2:06.72. Teammates

followed in second and
third.
Murphy finished
in 2:07.86, slightly in front of

won the 50
freestyle, edging out teammates

Nicklous (jr. Philadelphia/Father Judge)

Recio,
with a time of 22.91.
Nicklous finished
in 23.43 and
Recio
in 23.63.
Murphy,
Arnold and
Nicklous combined
to sweep the 100 butterfly, with
Murphy taking
first in 55.82 seconds.
Arnold finished
in 56.52 and
Nicklous in
57.36.
Nicholas Williams (fr. Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel)
was a dual event winner,
taking first in 100 and 200 freestyles. He completed the 100 in
49.05 seconds, while posting a time of 1:47.34 in the 200.
Bonifas took
first in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:02.61.
Scott
Thomas (jr. Friedensburg/Blue Mountain)
rounded out the Golden
Bears’ top finishers. He won the 200 backstroke with a time of
2:03.57.

Ashley Singer (sr. Lititz/Warwick),
defeated Mansfield 103-17, but fell 64-57 to Edinboro in the Golden
Bears’ tri-meet at Keystone Hall Saturday.
Steph
Jeppesen (so. Bethlehem/Liberty)
also won multiple events, taking first in the 100 breaststroke
(1:09.02) and in the 200 individual medley (2:15.72). To go with her
three individual wins in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyles,
Singer also
helped the 200 freestyle relay team finish first with a time of
1:43.12. She teamed with
Adrian Bumbulsky (fr. Tamaqua/Tamaqua Area),
Nina
Chiavaroli (so. Pennsburg/Upper Perkiomen)
and
Allison Sheely (fr. Enola/Trinity)
in the event.
Singer finished
the 100 freestyle in 54.01 seconds, the 200 freestyle in 1:56.26 and
the 500 freestyle in 5:13.49.

Heebner (jr. Easton/Easton)
won the 200 butterfly
(2:18.00) to round out KU’s top finishers.

both posted winning
records as the Kutztown University wrestling team opened the 2007-08
season at the Binghamton Open Saturday.
Chambers, who
finished the day with a 3-2 record while wrestling in the 157-pound
bracket. At 165 pounds,
Zeek
(4-2) picked up
his four wins in the wrestle-backs after a first-round loss.
Zeek
recorded two pins
and advanced via a medical forfeit twice. He fell short of picking
up a medal by one round. In the same bracket,
Andrew Osborne (so. Philadelphia/Milton Hershey)
finished 1-2 with a major decision, 14-2 over Binghamton’s Michael
Digiorgio.
Scott
Snyder (so. Slatington/Northern Lehigh),
at 197, and
Kyle
Davis (so. Peckville/Valley View),
at 184,
both went 2-2 in
their respective brackets.
