       SAT 11/17 - NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS (at Joplin, Mo.) — KU had a pair of runners in action at the NCAA Division II Championships at Missouri Southern State University Saturday morning. Joanna Horstmann (jr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) placed 48th overall in 22:00 on the 6K course. Stephanie Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside) finished 68th (22:23). Horstmann was the third-highest finisher from the East region.

       THU 11/15-SAT 11/17 - NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals (at California, Pa.)

       THU 11/15 - KU 3, Shippensburg 2 – Fifth-seeded Kutztown won a thrilling 3-2 decision over fourth seed Shippensburg in the first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals.

Erin Waters (sr. Waymart/Western Wayne) led KU with 20 kills and three blocks. Lindsay Confer (fr. Wingate/Bald Eagle) added 18 kills and Kelsey Nester (fr. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had 15 kills and six blocks. Katie Miller (so. Elizabeth/Elizabeth) notched 12 kills. Nicole Biuso (sr. Centereach/Ward Melville) and Jamie Celia (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 21 digs apiece, while Kaitlyn Cunliffe (fr. Levittown/Pennsbury) and Austin Kinney (jr. Landisville/Hempfield) recorded 20 digs each. Kinney dished out 65 assists and Cunliffe notched five aces. The teams traded the first four games, with Shippensburg winnings games one and three, 30-23 and 30-25; and KU winning games two and four, 34-32 and 30-25. KU won game 5 17-15.

       FRI 11/16 - California (Pa.) 3, KU 0 – Top-seeded California (Pa.) defeated KU 3-0 in the second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region at Hamer Hall. The Vulcans won with game scores of 30-22, 30-12 and 30-14. Waters had six kills, and Nester and Cunliffe had five each. Kinney had 19 assists and 17 digs, while Biuso had 18 digs. KU’s school-record season comes to a close with a 28-10 record. Biuso finished her career as KU’s career leader in digs (2,265) and aces (160), while setting the single-season digs mark this year (867).  Kinney finished her junior year as KU’s career assists leader (3,490).

       FRI 11/16-SAT 11/17 - GOLDEN BEAR CLASSIC

       FRI 11/16 - KU 56, BLOOMFIELD 55 – KU freshman Meredith Starr (fr. Richmond, Va./Monacan) made her collegiate debut a memorable one, as she hit a 15-foot jumper with 2.1 seconds left to give Kutztown a 56-55 win over Bloomfield College in the first round of the Golden Bear Classic at Keystone Hall Friday night. Starr scored 10 points in the game, seven in the second half. Rachel Weidensaul (sr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) had 11 points for KU, while Melissa McQuade (fr. Pittsburgh/Shaler) scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds in her first collegiate game. KU trailed 53-49 with less than three minutes left, before a 3-pointer by Starr and a jumper by Rachel Wisemiller (so. Hazleton/Hazleton) gave the Golden Bears a 54-53 edge with 1:35 left. Bloomfield took a one-point lead with 19 seconds left, but Starr hit the game-winner for KU, and a desperation heave by Bloomfield at the buzzer was well off the mark.

       SAT 11/17 - HOLY FAMILY 58, KU 46 — KU trailed by just three early in the second half but a 28-12 run by Holy Family allowed the Tigers to pull away in the final game of the Golden Bear Classic at Keystone Hall. Weidensaul, who was named to the All-Classic team, led the Golden Bears with 13 points. Mercedes Van Wagner (sr. Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) and McQuade followed with eight points apiece.

Women’s Bowling (7-14)

       SAT-SUN 11/17-18 - 11th/20 at Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic (Millsboro, Del.) — KU went 2-3 in the final day of the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Classic Sunday to finish in 11th place out of 20 teams. The Golden Bears went 2-4 in the dual matches Saturday. The event was the first NCAA competition for the Golden Bears after last week’s US Bowling Congress event at Penn State. The highlight Saturday came against St. Paul’s, when Jacquelyn Heimbach (jr. Easton/Easton), who finished 12th out 126 bowlers with a 194 average, bowled a 245 to lead KU to an 847-744 win. KU also defeated Howard 785-774. Steph Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson), who posted an average of 171 to finish 36th overall, led the charge against Howard with a 172. Heimbach also carded a 172. Kayla Stamm (fr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) finished just outside the top 50 with a 159.83 average. KU lost to No. 1 Vanderbilt 1,088-724, No. 3 Sacred Heart 1,012-785, Bowie State 838-793 and Hampton 799-779. Heimbach rolled a 203 in the loss to Hampton. The Golden Bears nearly took down the No. 4-ranked team in the nation Sunday in the baker games, but Maryland-Eastern Shore managed to overcome a late deficit to escape with a 736-723 win. KU did defeat a ranked team Sunday, downing No. 19 St. Peter’s College (690-661). The Golden Bears also defeated North Carolina Central (651-552), but lost to No. 14 Morgan State (703-622) and No. 2 Fairleigh-Dickinson (805-687).

Men’s Swimming (3-1, 1-1 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 11/14 - KU 107, Misericordia 77 Nick Williams (fr. Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) set a pool record to help KU defeat Misericordia Wednesday. Williams established an Anderson Center Pool record in the 200 free in 1:48.22. Also for the men, Gabe Recio (fr. Lancaster/Hempfield) won the 50 free (22.68) and 100 free (50.42).

FRI 11/16-SAT 11/17 - 1st/6 GOLDEN BEAR INVITE KU posted 685 points to top the six-team men’s field at the Golden Bear Invitational. Stevens Tech was second (485), followed by Salisbury (408) and Montclair State (403). The Golden Bears were led by double-event winners Sean Bonifas (sr. Lancaster/Hempfield) and Williams. Bonifas won the 100 breast (1:02.16) and the 200 breast (2:19.53). Williams won the 100 free (49.09) and the 200 free (1:47.25). KU also won all five relays. Bonifas took part in the winning 200 and 400 medley relays, while Williams swam on the winning 200, 400 and 800 free relays and the 400 medley relay. Scott Thomas (jr. Friedensburg/Blue Mountain) was KU’s other event winner in the 200 back (2:03.55). Steve Krater (so. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area) was on the 400 and 800 free relays. John Pandish (jr. Milford/Delaware Valley) was on the 800 free relay. Derek Orr (jr. Easton/Easton) swam the 200, 400 and 800 free relays as well as the 200 medley relay. Recio took part in the winning 200 and 400 free relays and the 200 and 400 medley relays. Scott Arnold (sr. Manchester/Northeastern) swam legs of the 200 and 400 medley relays. The 800 free relay team set a meet and pool record in 7:11.76.

       WED 11/14 - KU 109, Misericordia 92 — KU set three pool records en route to a win over Misericordia. KU rewrote the record board at Misericordia’s Anderson Center Pool, as the Golden Bears defeated Misericordia. Ashley Singer (sr. Lititz/Warwick) set a pool record in winning the 1,000 free in 10:51.36. Steph Jeppesen (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) won the 200 IM in 2:13.59. KU’s 400 free relay team of Allison Sheely (fr. Enola/Trinity), Jill Pantelides (sr. Lansdowne/Archbishop Prendergast), Casey Pollard (fr. Easton/Easton) and Singer set a pool record with a time of 3:46.08.

       FRI 11/16-SAT 11/17 - 1st/9 GOLDEN BEAR INV. — KU scored 659 points, easily outdistancing the nine-team field at the Golden Bear Invitational.  Millersville was a distant second with 366 points.  Stevens Tech was third with 333. Singer won three individual races and was part of four winning relays. Singer won the 100 free (54.69), the 200 free (1:57.24) and the 1650 free (18:20.49). She also was part of the winning 200, 400 and 800 free relays, as well as the 400 medley relay. Jeppesen won the 200 IM (2:14.85) and set a meet record in the 200 breast (2:27.50). Jeppesen was on the winning 800 free relay and the 200 and 400 medley relays. Other KU winners included Staci McGinty (sr. Jamison/Central Bucks East) in the 500 free (5:26.05). Kelli Pry (fr. Coatesville/Coatesville) in the 100 breast (1:11.09) and Laura Heebner (jr. Easton/Easton) in the 200 fly (2:19.32). McGinty was also on the 400 and 800 free relays.  Pantelides took part in the winning 200 free and medley relays. Sheely swam on the 200 and 400 medley relays as well as the 200 and 400 free relays. Pollard swam legs of the 200 and 400 medley relays and the 200 free relay. Adrian Bumbulsky (fr. Tamaqua/Tamaqua) rounded out the relay winners in the 800 free relay, which set a meet record (8:05.31).

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/17 - at Messiah Duals  — KU won two matches Saturday at the Messiah Duals, defeating Lycoming 28-15 and Messiah 28-12. Rob Volrath (fr. Richboro/Council Rock South), Chris Chambers (jr. Holland/Council Rock South), Kyle Davis (so. Peckville/Valley View) and Kevin Bolinsky (fr. Ashland/North Schuylkill) all went 2-0 for the Golden Bears (2-0). Volrath, at 133 pounds, collected two decisions, while Chambers, who improved to 5-2 on the season at 157, had a pin and a decision. In the 184 bouts, Davis picked up a win through injury default, while recording a decision in the other. Heavyweight Bolinsky had a pin and a major decision. Dave Zeek (so. Newtown/Council Rock North), Curtis Beardsell (jr. Warminster/William Tennent), Ed Harris (fr. Wilmington, Del./Howard), Clint Collins (jr. King of Prussia/Upper Merion) and Scott Snyder (so. Slatington/Northern Lehigh) also recorded wins for KU.
