Men’s Basketball (6-5, 0-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 12/29 - KU 90, Chesnut Hill 71 — KU junior guard Dave Ben (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored his 1,000th career point in leading the Golden Bears over Chestnut Hill College. The win was the 100th in eighth-year head coach Bernie Driscoll’s career. Ben was one of three players to score 16 points for the Golden Bears, to become the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 points. His milestone came on a layup with 13:12 left in the first half. He is KU’s first 1,000 point scorer since Bilal Salaam and Bobby Eberhart reached the plateau in 2004-05. Ben also led KU with 13 rebounds. Andre Woodlin (jr. Philadelphia/Central) and Nate Edwards (so. Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic) also scored 16 points for KU, while Stephen Dennis (so. West Chester/Henderson) added 15 and Ryan Washington (r-fr. Glenside/Wissahickon) netted 12.

       SAT 1/5 - KU 94, INDIANA (Pa.) 65 — Ben posted a double-double as KU routed Indiana (Pa.) at Keystone Hall. Ben scored a team-high 21 points and had 11 rebounds in the PSAC crossover. Ben, who was one of four KU players in double digits, also hit three 3-pointers and had four assists. Dennis scored 20 points, while Edwards and Woodlin each had 14. The Golden Bears hit 8-of-20 3-pointers, including Edwards’ 3-for-4 performance from beyond the arc.

       SUN 1/6 - CLARION 68, KU 66 — Clarion nailed a long jumper with 3.2 seconds left to hand the KU a 68-66 loss at Keystone Hall. Dennis, who led all scorers with 21 points, banked a desperation 3-pointer off the rim as time expired in the PSAC crossover. Edwards made one of two free throws to tie the game at 66, but Clarion countered with its game-winning jumper. KU’s Woodlin scored 12 points and had six rebounds, while Ben had 11 points.

Women’s Basketball (6-7, 0-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 12/29 - Philadelphia University 65, KU 51 – Philadelphia University used a 22-6 advantage at the free-throw line defeat KU in non-conference play. Three players were in double figures for KU. Mercedes Van Wagner (sr. Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview Regional) led with 13 points, while Vivian Melvin (so. Chichester/Chichester) scored 12 and Rachel Weidensaul (sr. Ashland/Cardinal Brennan) had 11. Melissa McQuade (fr. Pittsburgh/Shaler) led the team with nine rebounds. Philadelphia was 22-of-35 from the line, while KU was just 6-of-13 from the free-throw stripe. The Rams also held a 47-30 edge on rebounds, including 21 offensive boards.

       SAT 1/5 - INDIANA (Pa.) 80, KU 58 — Nationally ranked Indiana (Pa.) defeated KU in a PSAC crossover at Keystone Hall. The No. 9 Crimson Hawks built a double-digit lead early in the first half, jumping out to a 12-2 lead, and never looked back. Melvin led the Golden Bears with 11 points. Rachel Wisemiller (so. Hazleton/Hazleton) chipped in with nine points, while Meredith Starr (fr. Richmond, Va./Monacan) had eight points, six of which came on 3-pointers.

       SUN 1/6 - CLARION 66, KU 63 Clarion took a three-point lead with 14 seconds left and last-second 3-pointer by McQuade fell short as the Golden Eagles defeated the Golden Bears at Keystone Hall. McQuade led KU with 14 points and eight rebounds. Van Wagner scored 12 points and had seven rebounds. Wisemiller came off the bench to post 11 points, as well as four assists, two blocks and a steal.

Women’s Bowling (18-24)

Last Week’s Action

       THU-SAT 12/27-12/29 - 12th/14 at Fairleigh Dickinson KU’s Kayla Stamm (fr. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) and Jacquelyn Heimbach (jr. Easton/Easton) led the Golden Bears to four wins in traditional play, while the Golden Bears went 2-3 in baker games as they finished 12th at the Fairleigh-Dickinson Holiday Jamboree in Elmwood, N.J. KU finished 4-6 in traditional games and 6-9 overall at the holiday event. Stamm posted an average of 190 with a high game of 218, while Heimbach averaged 170 and had a high of 204. Steph Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson) also played all 10 traditional games for KU, averaging a 160.6 with a high of 180.

       SAT 1/5 Pitt-Johnstown 34, KU 3 — Fifth-ranked Pitt-Johnstown defeated KU in a wrestling dual in Johnstown, Pa. Dave Zeek (so. Newtown/Council Rock North) was KU's lone winner, picking up a 5-3 decision at 157 pounds. Chris Chambers (jr. Holland/Council Rock South), at 149, and Scott Snyder (so. Slatington/Northern Lehigh), at 197, lost close two-point decisions.
