WINTER SPORTS

Men’s Basketball (12-7, 4-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 1/30 - District of Columbia 81, KU 79 (OT) — Dave Ben (jr. Coatesville/Coatesville) scored 23 points and Ryan Washington (r-fr. Glendale/Wissahickon) had a double-double, but KU came up short in an overtime loss at the University of the District of Columbia. Ben’s 23 points came on 7-of-19 shooting, with three 3-pointers and six free throws. Washington scored 19 points and had 13 rebounds. Steve Coffey (r-fr. Reading/Wilson) scored 10 points off the bench.

       SAT 2/2 - CHEYNEY 81, KU 75 — Cheyney had five players finish in double-digits as the Wolves handed KU its first PSAC Eastern Division loss 81-75 at Keystone Hall. Ben led KU with 20 points, while Andre Woodlin (jr. Philadelphia/Central) had 15, Washington 11 and Nate Edwards (so. Philadelphia/Northeast Catholic) 10. Ben and Edwards both converted late 3s to keep KU close, but Cheyney closed out the game by hitting seven consecutive free throws.

Women’s Basketball (9-11, 2-3 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 2/2 - CHEYNEY 77, KU 66 (OT) — KU had its 32-game winning streak against Cheyney snapped as the Wolves won in overtime at Keystone Hall. Cheyney used a 13-0 run in overtime to put the Golden Bears away in the PSAC East Division game. Melissa McQuade (fr. Shaler/Pittsburgh) played all 45 minutes, scored 14 points, ripped down 17 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Rachel Wisemiller (so. Hazleton/Hazleton) had nine points in the first half and finished the contest with 12 points and shot 4-of-7 from the field. Lara Dellegrotti (jr. Berwick/Berwick) sent the game into overtime, as she drilled an off-balance 3-pointer with eight ticks left on the clock to tie the game at 64-64.

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 2/2 — Rowan 135, KU 69 — KU had its six-meet winning streak stopped in a dual meet loss at Rowan University. The Golden Bears had just one event winner, Scott Thomas (jr. Friedensburg/Blue Mountain) in the 1,000 free (10:26.05). Other highlights for KU came with the last-chance PSAC qualifying efforts by Chris Howie (jr. Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) in the 200 free (4th, 1:49.89) and Andrew Guarino (fr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) in the 200 IM (2nd, 2:03.92).

Women’s Swimming (9-2, 5-2 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 2/2 - KU 108.5, Rowan 96.5 — KU won for the sixth straight time slipping past Rowan University by 12 points in a non-conference dual meet. Steph Jeppesen (so. Bethehem/Liberty) was a triple-winner, taking the 200 IM (2:14.46) and the 200 breast (2:29.50), while swimming a leg of the 200 medley relay team that took first (1:53.29). Ashley Singer (sr. Lititz/Warwick) won the 200 free (1:57.80), Laura Heebner (jr. Easton/Easton) won the 200 fly (2:14.46) and Allison Sheely (fr. Enola/Trinity) won the 200 back (2:13.20). All three joined Jeppesen on the winning 200 medley relay squad. Turning in PSAC qualifying times in the final meet of the regular season were Adrian Bumblusky (fr. Tamaqua/Tamaqua) in the 200 free (3rd, 2:01.47) and Christine Paski (so. Wilmington, Del./Concord) in the 200 fly (3rd. 2:19.06).
