SHIPPENSBURG (8 inn.) - A
single from
Steph Denlinger (jr.
Harleysville/Souderton) in the
bottom of the eighth helped bring home the game-winning run as
Kutztown University defeated Shippensburg University 1-0 in game
four of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals Wednesday at
North Campus Field. A leadoff double in the eighth by
Maria Schiavo (so.
Old Forge/Old Forge) set up
the game-winning play.
Denlinger’s
single in the following at-bat was
misplayed by the left fielder and
Schiavo
easily strolled home as the ball
rolled to the fence. Schiavo finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
Ashley Fitzgerald
(jr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection)
also had two hits for the Golden Bears, while
Krista Cameron (jr.
Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart),
Kathy Gregg
(sr. Narvon/Garden Spot) and
Krista
Tedjeske (fr. Summerhill/Forest Hills)
had the other hits.
Katlin Arbogast
(so. Ambler/Wissahickon) led
the Golden Bears in the circle, pitching all eight innings for her
24th win of the season. She struck out eight, while holding
Shippensburg to four hits and three walks.
THU 5/8 -
BLOOMSBURG 3, KU 1
- Bloomsburg came from behind
to defeat Kutztown 3-1 in game eight Thursday afternoon. Kutztown
took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on
Fitzgerald’s
solo home run, a towering drive to deep right field. It was her
16th homer on the season. BU scored two runs in the fifth and
another in the seventh.
Cameron
had two of KU’s five hits, going
2-for-3.

WEST CHESTER 0
- Gregg
scored on
Fitzgerald's infield single to
propel Kutztown to a 1-0 win over West Chester in game 10.
Gregg
was hit by a pitch to lead off the
third. After a sacrifice bunt and a lineout,
Denlinger
walked.
Fitzgerald then lined a pitch
off the glove of a diving short stop. The ball caromed into shallow
center field, allowing Gregg to score from second on the play.
Arbogast
(25-7) allowed just three hits in the game, striking out nine.
SAT 5/10 - KU 4,
CALIFORNIA (Pa.) 1
- KU got a pair of two-run
singles by
Krista Cameron and
Ashley Fitzgerald
to defeat California University of Pa. 4-1 in game 12.
Arbogast
(26-7) got the win, scattering five
hits and striking out eight over seven innings. The Golden Bears
got on the board in the top of the first inning.
Schiavo
walked and
Denlinger singled. After a
groundout,
Cameron singled down the right
field line to drive in two runs. The Vulcans cut it to 2-1 in the
second, but KU stretched its lead to 4-1 in the fifth.
Schiavo
and
Denlinger
walked with two outs. After
advancing on a wild pitch, the duo scored on
Fitzgerald's
single to left.
SUN 5/11 -
BLOOMSBURG 3, KU 0
- Bloomsburg defeated Kutztown
3-0 in game 13 of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional, ending
KU’s season.
Kim Morrison (jr.
Newmarket, Ont./Sir William Mulock)
had two of KU’s five hits in the game.
Fitzgerald
and
Cameron
were named to the regional
all-tournament team. KU’s season came to a close with a
school-record 48 wins.
Outdoor Track and Field

FRI 5/9 - at
Allegheny Gator Invitational -
Several members of KU's track & field teams competed at the
Allegheny Gator Invitational on Friday. Stephanie
Williams (sr. Harrisburg/Riverside {Ellwood City})
turned in the top performance, with an NCAA provisional time of
17.15.19 in the women's 5,000-meter run. She placed second in the
race.
Kristin Cupido (fr. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan)
was 10th (18:10.85).
Keri Brown (fr.
Southampton, NJ/Seneca)
finished fifth in the 1,500 (4:48.23). In the field,
Ashley Pinter (fr.
Bethlehem/Liberty) was second in the discus (134-0),
third in the hammer (154-7) and fourth in the shot put (40-9 1/2).
For KU's men,
Jim Dart (sr.
Havertown/Haverford) was the
runner up in the discus (160-7), while
Jason Rebuck (so.
Southampton/William Tennent)
placed 12th (146-9).
Dart
also placed fifth in the shot put
(42-3 3/4).
Rebuck
was also sixth in the hammer (163-0)
and seventh in the shot put (50-8).
Cody Hartzler (jr.
Belleville/Indian Valley)
reached a high jump of 6-3 1/4, for fourth place.
