Last Week’s Action

WED-SUN 5/7-5/11 - NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals at KU

WED 5/7 - KU 1, SHIPPENSBURG (8 inn.) - A single from Steph Denlinger (jr. Harleysville/Souderton) in the bottom of the eighth helped bring home the game-winning run as Kutztown University defeated Shippensburg University 1-0 in game four of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals Wednesday at North Campus Field.  A leadoff double in the eighth by Maria Schiavo (so. Old Forge/Old Forge) set up the game-winning play. Denlinger’s single in the following at-bat was misplayed by the left fielder and Schiavo easily strolled home as the ball rolled to the fence.  Schiavo finished 2-for-3 with a walk. Ashley Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection) also had two hits for the Golden Bears, while Krista Cameron (jr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart), Kathy Gregg (sr. Narvon/Garden Spot) and Krista Tedjeske (fr. Summerhill/Forest Hills) had the other hits.  Katlin Arbogast (so. Ambler/Wissahickon) led the Golden Bears in the circle, pitching all eight innings for her 24th win of the season. She struck out eight, while holding Shippensburg to four hits and three walks.

THU 5/8 - BLOOMSBURG 3, KU 1 - Bloomsburg came from behind to defeat Kutztown 3-1 in game eight Thursday afternoon.  Kutztown took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on Fitzgerald’s solo home run, a towering drive to deep right field.  It was her 16th homer on the season. BU scored two runs in the fifth and another in the seventh.  Cameron had two of KU’s five hits, going 2-for-3.

SAT 5/10 - KU 1, WEST CHESTER 0 - Gregg scored on Fitzgerald's infield single to propel Kutztown to a 1-0 win over West Chester in game 10. Gregg was hit by a pitch to lead off the third.  After a sacrifice bunt and a lineout, Denlinger walked.  Fitzgerald then lined a pitch off the glove of a diving short stop. The ball caromed into shallow center field, allowing Gregg to score from second on the play.  Arbogast (25-7) allowed just three hits in the game, striking out nine.

SAT 5/10 - KU 4, CALIFORNIA (Pa.) 1 - KU got a pair of two-run singles by Krista Cameron and Ashley Fitzgerald to defeat California University of Pa. 4-1 in game 12.  Arbogast (26-7) got the win, scattering five hits and striking out eight over seven innings.  The Golden Bears got on the board in the top of the first inning.  Schiavo walked and Denlinger singled.  After a groundout, Cameron singled down the right field line to drive in two runs.  The Vulcans cut it to 2-1 in the second, but KU stretched its lead to 4-1 in the fifth.  Schiavo and Denlinger walked with two outs.  After advancing on a wild pitch, the duo scored on Fitzgerald's single to left.

SUN 5/11 - BLOOMSBURG 3, KU 0 - Bloomsburg defeated Kutztown 3-0 in game 13 of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional, ending KU’s season.  Kim Morrison (jr. Newmarket, Ont./Sir William Mulock) had two of KU’s five hits in the game.  Fitzgerald and Cameron were named to the regional all-tournament team.  KU’s season came to a close with a school-record 48 wins.
