Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 10/3 — Women 25th/43 at Paul Short Invitational (at Lehigh) — Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) finished in a KU course-record time of 21:53, placing 74th out of 301 runners for the KU women's team at the Paul Short Invite. KU was 25th out of 43 teams in the College "Brown" race. The "Brown" race included the Division I and nationally ranked Division II and III teams. Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Spring/Downingtown East) finished at 142nd with a time of 22:44. Hailey Dell (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) came in next for KU at 161st (22:53). Kristin Cupido (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Kristy Ulrich (fr. Duncannon/Susquenita) were separated by a six seconds to finish 181st (23:06) and 188th (23:12), respectively. Rounding out the final two spots for KU were Maureen Watson (jr. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) at 197th (23:16) and Keri Brown (so. Southampton, N.J./Seneca) at 269th (24:33).

       SAT 10/3 — Men 24th/41 at Paul Short Invitational (at Lehigh) — Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) led the KU men's team by placing 53rd with a time of 27:11 in the "White" race at the Paul Short Invitational. The "White" race included non-Division I teams. Frank Nick (fr. Kintersville/Palisades) and Paul Kuehnle (fr. Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) finished 59th (27:18) and 78th (27:35) respectively. Jubilant Kunce (fr. Red Lion/Red Lion) and Steve Guthrie (fr. Chester Springs/Devon Prep) rounded out the last two spots for Kutztown with times of 29:35 and 30:21.

Field Hockey (11-2, 3-2 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 9/30 — KU 3, Shippensburg 2 — A quiet first half turned into a wild second half as Whitney Stum (sr. Landisburg/West Perry) scored the late game-winner in a 3-2 win at Shippensburg University. Stum tallied the go-ahead goal on a scrum in front of the cage with less than three minutes left in the PSAC crossover contest. After a scoreless first half, Lyndsay Butler (sr. Annandale, N.J./Summit) scored two goals and Kelley Healey (sr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) each had assists.

       SAT 10/4 — Kutztown 3, East Stroudsburg 2 (OT) — KU topped East Stroudsburg with an overtime win in a PSAC East game. The visiting Golden Bears got an unassisted game-winning goal by Kelley Healey at the 76:19 mark. Butler had two goals, one assisted by Kelley Healey.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

       SAT-SUN 10/4-10/5 — 3rd/10 at Gannon Invitational — KU carded a two-round score of 664 to finish third at the Gannon Invitational at Green Meadows Golf Course. After two rounds, KU finished behind leader California (Pa.), at 624, and runner-up Ashland, at 653. KU was seven strokes ahead of fourth-place Findlay. The Golden Bears were led by Chelsea Corbo (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East), who shot a two-day score of 161 on the par-72, 5,801-yard course. She finished tied for fourth. Kelli Pry (so. Coatesville/Coatesville) shot a team-best 81 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 10th at 166. Samatha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was 13th at 167 and Krista Tressler (sr. Fayeteville/Heritage Academy) tied for 16th at 170.

Men’s Soccer (2-10-0, 1-4-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 10/1 — COLUMBIA UNION 2, KU 1 (OT) — KU fell in overtime against Columbia Union College in a non-conference game at Keystone Field. The Pioneers scored the game-winner in the 97th minute on a penalty kick. It was the second penalty kick of the game as Bill Frosoni (sr. North Plainfield, N.J./North Plainfield) scored the Golden Bears’ only goal after he was taken down by the Pioneers’ keeper in the box. The goal tied the game at 1-1 in the 57th minute.

Women’s Soccer (7-3-1, 3-2-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 10/1— KU 3, PHILADELPHIA UNIV. 0 — Chelsea Bressler (fr. Cleona/Annville-Cleona) scored two goals to lead KU to a shutout win over Philadelphia University at Keystone Field. Bressler also had an assist on the first goal of the game, scored by Nina Zerrer (fr. Wooster, Ohio/Wooster). Bressler capped the scoring when she headed a kick from Jen Tice (so. Barnegat, N.J./Sourthern Regional). Steph Addleman (fr. Chambersburg/Chambersburg) made eight saves to collect her third shutout at KU.

       SAT 10/4 — KU 3, INDIANA (Pa.) 2 — Carolynne Kahl (so. Bethel/Tulpehocken) had a goal and an assist at KU upended the Indiana (Pa.) University Crimson Hawks 3-2 at Keystone Field. The Golden Bears extended the winning streak to seven straight games, tying the second-best win-streak in KU history, by scoring three first-half goals. The defense held on in the second half for the one-goal PSAC crossover win. Bressler and Tice also had goals for the Golden Bears. Raven Chiara (jr. Jamesburg, N.J./Monroe Twp.) had an assist. Addleman made 11 saves while facing 17 shots. Of her 11 stops, three were diving efforts to keep the Crimson Hawks off the scoreboard.

Men’s Tennis (0-0, 0-0 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT-SUN 10/4-10/5 — at ITA Regionals (at Bloomsburg) — Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) won the ITA Regionals A-Singles and A-Doubles tournaments at Bloomsburg University. Labitsch, who teamed with Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) to win the doubles title, will compete at nationals in both the singles and doubles tournament. Nick Gallagher (sr. King of Prussia/Upper Merion) advanced through the B-Singles bracket all the way to the finals, where he eventually fell in straight sets. He also advanced to the final in the B-Doubles bracket with teammate Arijit Goswami (fr. Kolkata, INDIA), but they, too, lost in the final, 8-2.

Women’s Tennis (3-0, 0-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT-MON 9/27-9/29 — at ITA Regionals (at Bloomsburg) — Barbara Joerns (jr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) and Rohini Das (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) won first-round matches in the A-Singles bracket of the ITA Regionals at Bloomsburg. Das also won a second round match 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) to advance to the quarterfinals, where she lost 6-2, 7-5.

Women’s Volleyball (11-10, 2-3 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 9/30 — KU 3, Millersville 1 — KU fell behind 1-0 early, but won three straight sets to defeat Millersville University in a PSAC East match. Millersville won the first set 25-22, however, KU won sets two through four by scores of 25-16, 25-23 and 25-13. Jamie Celia (so. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 32 assists and five service aces for the Golden Bears. She also had 10 digs. Lindsey Smith (fr. Hanover/Delone Catholic) led KU with 19 digs, while Catie Leahy (so. Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) had 15 and Megan O’Connell (so. Horsham/Hatboro-Horsham) had 11. Lindsay Confer (so. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area), Katie Miller (jr. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and Kelsey Nester (so. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua) each had nine kills for the Golden Bears. Nester also had four service aces. Katie Lutz (fr. Greencastle/Greencastle Antrim) had a team-high nine blocks. Cali Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) had seven and Miller and Celia each had five.

       FRI-SAT 10/3-10/4 — PSAC Crossover, at Edinboro

       FRI 10/3 — Edinboro 3, KU 1 — KU won its first set 25-23, then dropped the next three to Edinboro by scores of 25-12, 25-12 and 25-16 in the opening match of the PSAC crossover. Miller led KU with six kills and two blocks and Snell had three blocks. Smith led the Golden Bears with 23 digs.

       FRI 10/3 — Gannon 3, KU 0 — KU was swept in three sets by Gannon at Edinboro. The Golden Bears dropped the sets by scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17. Miller led Kutztown with four kills and three blocks. Brittni Speck (fr. Hesston/Huntingdon) had five blocks. Smith had 16 digs and Celia with 10 digs.

       SAT 10/4 — Indiana (Pa.) 3, KU 0 — Indiana (Pa.) won in straight sets, 25-18, 25-22 and 25-17, over KU in the final game of the PSAC crossover at Edinboro. Miller led the offense with 11 kills and Confer had nine. Smith had nine digs and Nester had five blocks for the Golden Bears.
