Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 10/18 — Women 1st/8 at Lafayette Invitational — The KU women’s cross country team finished in first out of eight teams with five of the Golden Bears placing in the top 10 at the Lafayette Leopard Invitational. KU finished with 25 points, ahead of American (61), Lafayette (85) and Rutgers (96). Muhlenberg (147), Seton Hall (150), LaSalle (163) and East Stroudsburg (179) rounded out the teams competing. Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) led the Golden Bears, placing first with at time of 21:16 in the 6K race. Kristin Cupido (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was third (21:34), while Hailey Dell (Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) was fourth (21:39). Kristy Ulrich (fr. Duncannon/Susquenita) placed seventh for KU with a time of 22:02 and Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Spring/Downingtown East) was 10th at 22:21. One place and one second behind Reimer was Keri Brown (so. Southampton, N.J./Seneca) and Maureen Watson (jr. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) was 14th with a time of 22:37. Lindsey Ray (fr. Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) also had a good race for KU, placing 23rd at 23:16.

       SAT 10/18 — Men 8th/10 at Lafayette Invitational — The KU men’s cross country team finished eighth out of 10 teams at the Lafayette Leopard Invitational. KU scored 200 points to finish ahead of Lafayette (208) and Widener (283). American University won the event with 40 points, while Rutgers (66), LaSalle (88), East Stroudsburg (114) and Seton Hall (131) rounded out the top five. UConn was sixth with 138 points and Muhlenberg was seventh with 195. Ben Loht (jr. Lewistown/Indian Valley) led the Golden Bears, placing 30th with a time of 26:56 in the 5-mile race. Kevin Rodgers (so. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby) was second for the Golden Bears, taking 44th place (27:31). Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) was 48th (27:39), while Paul Kuehnle (fr. Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook) was 50th (27:42) and Frank Nick (fr. Kintersville/Palisades) was 55th (27:56).

Field Hockey (13-4, 5-3 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 10/14 — KU 6, C.W. POST 2 — Lauren Solley (jr. Oley/Oley Valley) scored two goals and Julie Rosenkaimer (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) had a goal and an assist to lead KU to a win over C.W. Post in a PSAC Eastern Division game at University Field. Abbey Sheeler (so. Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights), Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Lyndsay Butler (sr. Annandale, N.J./Summit) also scored goals. Kelley Healey (sr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Holly Hubbard (sr. Etters/Red Land) had assists.

       SAT 10/18 — Bloomsburg 7, KU 2 — Lyndsay Butler (sr. Annandale, N.J./Summit) and Kelley Healey each had first-half goals for KU, but Bloomsburg scored five second-half goals for the PSAC East win. Healey also had an assist, bringing her to within one point of tying the KU all-time record for points in a career. Lisa Marrella (1986-89) currently holds the record with 162 points. Butler scored in the 26th minute to time the game at 1-1 and Healey tied it at 2-2 on a penalty corner with 13 seconds left in the first half. Anne Waapu (so. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) recorded the assist on the goal.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

       SAT-SUN 10/18-10/19 — 2nd/7 at PSAC Championships (at Hershey C.C.) — The Kutztown University women’s golf team took second place at the PSAC Women’s Championships at Hershey Country Club on Sunday afternoon. KU, with a record team score of 637, finished behind California (Pa.) with a team score of 602. KU’s score of 314 Sunday is also a team record. The Golden Bears were led by Kelli Pry (so. Coatesville/Coatesville), who had a score of 76-79—155, a 36-hole KU record on a par-72 course. Finishing sixth was Samantha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) with a total score of 158, 78 in the first round and 80 in the second. Krista Tressler (sr. Fayeteville/Heritage Academy) set a KU record with her second round score of 74 on the par-72 course. She broke Pry’s record of 76, set in the first round. Tressler finished in seventh place with a combined score of 159. Finishing tied for 10th place was Chelsea Corbo (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East), with scores of 84 and 81 for a 165. Pry, Rumbley, Tressler and Corbo all earned All-PSAC honors with their top 10 finishes. They are the first All-PSAC golfers in program history. Lauren Foulke (sr. Kempton/Kutztown) rounded out the KU lineup, tying for 23rd with a two-round total of 186.

Men’s Soccer (2-13-1, 1-6-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 10/14 — Holy Family 6, KU 0 — The Kutztown University men’s soccer team dropped a non-conference game at Holy Family on Tuesday. The Tigers scored three goals in each half.

       FRI 10/17 — East Stroudsburg 2, KU 0 — KU dropped a decision at No. 15 East Stroudsburg in a PSAC East game. The Warriors scored a goal in each half as ESU outshot KU 29-6. KU goalkeeper Matthew Fredericks (jr. Montdale/Lakeland) stopped 10 shots for the Golden Bears.

Women’s Soccer (10-4-2, 4-3-2 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       MON 10/13 — KU 1, Charleston (W.Va.) 0 — KU extended its unbeaten streak to nine straight with a shutout win over Charleston. Chelsea Bressler (fr. Cleona/Annville-Cleona) drew a penalty kick and Carolynne Kahl (so. Bethel/Tulpehocken) scored the only goal of the game. Steph Addleman (fr. Chambersburg/Chambersburg) made four saves. KU outshot Charleston by a 10-4 margin and held the advantage in corner kicks 4-1.

       WED 10/15 — KU 2, SHEPHERD 0 — KU reached double-digit wins with a shutout non-conference victory over Shepherd University at Keystone Field. The Golden Bears also moved into second all-time in KU history by remaining unbeaten in 11 straight games. Kahl scored with 1 second left in the first half off an assist from Bressler. Trystin Figel (so. Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) made it 2-0 midway through the second half. Addleman did not have to make a save to collect her sixth shutout as a Golden Bear. Lauren Brown (fr. Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) and Chelsea Deeter (so. Langhorne/Neshaminy) anchored the Golden Bears defense which held Shepherd without a shot.

       FRI 10/17 — East Stroudsburg 2, KU 0 — KU saw its 11-game unbeaten streak come to a close with a shutout loss at East Stroudsburg. The Warriors scored both goals in a three-minute span late in the second half. East Stroudsburg outshot the Golden Bears 19-6. Addleman had five saves in net.

Men’s Tennis (0-0, 0-0 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       THU 10/16 — at ITA Small College Championships (at Mobile, Ala.) Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) finished eighth place in the singles tournament and teamed with Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) to finish sixth in the doubles tournament at the ITA National Small College Championships.

 

Women’s Volleyball (13-11, 3-3 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       MON 10/13 — Kutztown 3, Lycoming 0 — KU defeated Lycoming 3-0 in non-conference action at Pine Grove Middle School, a match that was played at the alma mater of Shannon Sullivan, a former Golden Bear whose life was tragically taken as a result of an automobile accident in 2006. Proceeds from the match benefited scholarships that have been established in Shannon’s memory. KU swept the three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-16. Brittni Speck (fr. Hesston/Huntingdon) had six kills and two blocks. Cali Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) added four kills and four blocks. Lindsay Confer (so. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) and Katie Miller (jr. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) had five kills each. Lindsey Smith (fr. Hanover/Delone Catholic) notched 17 digs. Megan O’Connell (so. Horsham/Hatboro Horsham) had nine digs and two aces. Jamie Celia (so. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) returned to KU’s lineup with 21 assists, eight digs and two aces.

       THU 10/16 — KU 3, CHEYNEY 0 — KU swept Cheyney in a PSAC East match at Keystone Hall with set scores were 25-6, 25-6 and 25-7. The Golden Bears were led by Jenn Zook (so. Reedsville/Indian Valley) with six kills and three service aces. Speck and Catie Leahy (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) each had five kills for KU. Alex Thomas (so. Quakertown/Quakertown) had 17 assists, four service aces and four digs. Nora Alexander (so. Plymouth Meeting/Plymouth-Whitemarsh) had four service aces.
