Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

        SAT 10/25 — Women 2nd/8 at Pete Nevins Invitational — The KU women placed second with three runners in the top 10 to finish second at the Pete Nevins Invitational at East Stroudsburg University. KU finished with 48 points, behind only East Stroudsburg with 34 points. Moravian College and Drew University were third (91) and fourth (95), respectively. Rounding out the top five was Baptist Bible with 124 points. Lindsey Ray (fr. Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) led the pack with a first-place finish at a time of 20:12. Chelsea Ray (fr. Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) was fourth with a time of 20:35. Finishing ninth was Jill Kostishion (fr. Hilltown/Pennridge) at a time of 21:10. Holly Pinkerton (sr. Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) finished 17th (21:48) and behind her at 19th was teammate Lauren Ayars (jr. Ocean Twp. N.J./Ocean Twp.) at 22:01. Michele Celenza (sr. Harleysville/North Penn) and Jessica Frederick (fr. Whitehall/Whitehall) were the final two runners for KU. They placed 32nd and 36th, respectively, with times of 23:04 and 23:35.

Field Hockey (13-5, 5-4 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

        TUE 10/21 — SHIPPENSBURG 6, KU 2 — Anne Waapu (so. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) and Abbey Sheeler (so. Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) each had goals, but No. 5 KU fell to No. 3 Shippensburg University at University Field. Waapu’s goal in the 20th minute, off a pass from Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), tied the game at 1-1. Sheeler scored in the 47th minute to tie it at 2-2.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

        SAT-SUN 10/25-10/26 — 6th/7 at Lehigh Invitational — KU concluded the fall portion of its schedule, finishing sixth at the Lehigh University/Kelly Gutshall Invitational. KU shot a two-round score of 381-350—731 on the par 73, 5,884 yard course at Saucon Valley Country Club. Harvard won the 36-hole tournament with a score of 315-321—636. Towson was second (337-334—671), Boston College was third (334-338—672). Penn finished fourth (339-346—685) and Lehigh was fifth (360-348—708). Siena rounded out the team scores in seventh (401-397—798). Kelli Pry (so. Coatesville/Coatesville) led the way for KU, finishing 17th with a 90-84—174. Chelsea Corbo (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) tied for 26th with a 94-88—182. Krista Tressler (sr. Fayeteville/Heritage Academy) carded a 97-86—183 for 28th place and Lauren Foulke (sr. Kempton/Kutztown) shot a 100-93—193 to tie for 34th.  Samantha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) tied for 36th, shooting a 102-92—194.

 

Men’s Soccer (2-15-1, 1-8-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

        TUE 10/21 — MILLERSVILLE 4, KU 0 — Millersville scored two early goals en route to a shutout win over KU in a PSAC East contest at Keystone Field. KU was outshot 12-7 and Millersville had the advantage in corners 7-2.

        SAT 10/25 — Bloomsburg 4, KU 2 — KU let an early lead slip away and dropped its final game of the season at Bloomsburg. James Robinson (so. Chester, ENGLAND) scored an unassisted goal and KU received help from Bloomsburg with an own goal to take a 2-0 lead, however, the Huskies battled back with four unanswered goals. Bloomsburg held a 14-4 advantage in total shots and 5-0 in corner kicks.

 

Women’s Soccer (11-5-2, 5-4-2 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

        TUE 10/21 — KU 3, MILLERSVILLE 1 — Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Carolynne Kahl (so. Bethel/Tulpehocken) scored second half goals to lead KU to a win over Millersville in a PSAC East game at Keystone Field. Jen Tice (so. Barnegat, N.J./Sourthern Regional) knotted the score at 1-1 for KU, scoring off a corner kick from Kahl in the 33rd minute. Mehaffey netted her first collegiate goal in the 49th minute and Kahl scored in the 69th minute. Steph Addleman (fr. Chambersburg/Chambersburg) had eight saves in the net.

        SAT 10/25 — Bloomsburg 1, KU 0 — KU was shut out by Bloomsburg in a PSAC East contest. The offense was limited to four shots, three by Chelsea Bressler (fr. Cleona/Annville-Cleona) and one from Kahl. KU had a solid defensive effort, allowing only one second-half shot. Addleman made 10 saves.

Women’s Volleyball (15-13, 4-5 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

        TUE 10/21 — LOCK HAVEN 3, KU 0 — KU was swept in straight sets by Lock Haven in a PSAC Eastern Division contest at Keystone Arena. Lock Haven ran away with the first set 25-10 and KU kept the next two sets close early, but fell in both with scores of 25-16 and 25-19. Jamie Celia (so. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) led the Golden Bears with 18 assists, nine digs, three service aces and two blocks. Cali Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) had six kills and three blocks, and Kelsey Nester (so. Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had five kills. Lindsey Smith (fr. Hanover/Delone Catholic) had 10 digs.

        SAT 10/25 — West Chester 3, KU 0 — KU fell in straight sets 3-0 to West Chester University in a PSAC East match. The Golden Bears lost by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-18. Lindsay Confer (so. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area) and Nester led the Golden Bears with eight kills apiece. Nester added 10 digs and two blocks. Celia had a team-high 26 assists and 12 digs. Snell and Brittni Speck (fr. Hesston/Huntingdon) each chipped in with four kills and two blocks.

Men’s Swimming (1-1, 1-1 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

        SAT 10/25 — KU 105, RAMAPO 78 — The KU men’s team picked up its first win of the season, topping Ramapo College at Keystone Pool. The 400-yard medley was won by the team of Jack Crellin (fr. Pittsburgh/North Allegheny), Nelson Martinez (sr. Allentown/Dieruff), Chris Howie (sr. Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) and John Pandish (sr. Milford/Delaware Valley) with a time of 3:45.43. Finishing second, with a time of 3:50.12, was the team of Matt Moates (fr. South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield), David Shedleski (fr. Mechanicsburg/Trinity), A.J. Guarino (so. Royersford/Downingtown) and Jeff Travor (so. Quakertown/Quakertown Community). The 1,000 free was swept by Kutztown. Finishing in first place was Scott Thomas (sr. Schuylkill Haven/Blue Mountain) with a time of 10:27.82, edging out Joe Lahovski (fr. Allentown/Emmaus), who finished 10:27.95. Dan Troy (fr. Aldan/Upper Darby) came in third with a time of 10:48.72. Matt Moates (fr. South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) took third in the 200 free at 1:56.66. Ahead of him was teammates Stephen Krater (jr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area) finishing second (1:50.19) and Pandish at first (1:49.41). Finishing within three-tenths of each other was Gabriel Recio (so. Lancaster/Hempfield) and John Nicklous (sr. Philadelphia/Father Judge) to earn first and second, respectively, in the 50 free. Recio had a time of 23.27 and Nicklous at 23.30. Crellin took first in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:05.08. Guarino came in third at 2:12.52. The 100 fly was won by Recio (56.87) with Gaurino again taking third place (59.22). The top three spots were claimed by Golden Bears in the 100 free. First, with a time of 50.18, was Pandish. Orr came in second at 50.87 and Nicklous in third at 51.74.

Women’s Swimming (1-1, 1-1 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

        SAT 10/25 — KU 106, RAMAPO 78 — The KU women’s team notched its first victory of the season with a win over Ramapo College at Keystone Pool. In the 400-yard medley relay was won by the team of Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity), Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty), Nicole Hinsdale (fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin) and Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton N.J./Princeton) with a time of 4:08.11. Alex Crigler (so. West Lawn/Wilson High School) took first in the 1,000 free, with a time of 10:58.53. Placing second with a time of 12:13.17 was teammate Nina Chiavaroli (jr. Pennsburg/Upper Perkiomen). The top three spots were swept in the 200 free by Golden Bears. Shapiro took first (2:00.78), Jeppesen was second (2:04.27) and Shelly Lawn (so. Hatboro/Gwynedd-Mercy Academy) was third with a time of 2:10.20. Sheely grabbed first in the 50 free in a time of 25.90. The 200 IM was won by Kerry Choplin (so. Thorofare, N.J./West Deptford) with her time of 2:25.23. Second place was taken by Christine Paski (jr. Wilmington, Del./Concord) in a time of 2:29.75. Katie Kelly (so. Downingtown/Downingtown) took first (1:03.24), Lawn second (1:06.15) and Paski third (1:07.08) in the 100 fly. Sheely took first again, this time in the 100 free with a time of 57.29. Coming in second was Stephanie Kearns (fr. West Chester/West Chester East) at a time of 58.70, and third place was claimed by Chavaroli at 1:00.14.
