Cross Country

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/8 — Women 3rd/25 at NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships (at Slippery Rock) Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Hailey Dell (sr. Saranac Lake, N.Y./Saranac Lake) earned All-Region honors as the KU women’s team finished third at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals. Horstmann placed fifth overall in 22:08 to earn a bid to the NCAA Division II Championships at Slippery Rock University on Nov. 22. Horstmann is the first KU cross country runner to earn all-region honors in all four seasons. She will be the second KU runner to compete at the NCAA Championships all four seasons (Stephanie Williams, 2004-07), as well. Her fifth-place finish also helped KU score 108 points and finish third out of 25 teams behind regional winner Shippensburg (62) and runner-up Slippery Rock 97. Edinboro had 110 points and Indiana (Pa.) had 158 to round out the top five. Dell’s 14th-place finish was the best finish in her career at a regional meet. She ran the 6K course in 22:58. Cheryl Dingman (jr. Lansdale/North Penn) was KU’s third-best finisher, placing 27th in 23:24. Kristy Ulrich (fr. Duncannon/Susquenita), in her first regional meet, was 30th in 23:28 and two seconds behind her was Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Spring/Downingtown East), who finished 32nd. Maureen Watson (jr. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) and Kristin Cupido (so. Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) rounded out the Golden Bear finishers Saturday. Watson finished 46th (23:53) and Cupido was 55th (24:18).

       SAT 11/8 — Men 14th/25 at NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships (at Slippery Rock) — The KU men’s team placed 14th out of 25 teams at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regionals. Lock Haven won the regional meet with 51 points, while Edinboro placed second with 71. Slippery Rock was close behind in third with 79 points and Shippensburg followed with 83. Bloomsburg was fifth with 148. KU finished the 8K course with 374 points. Kevin Rodgers (so. Clifton Heights/Upper Darby) was the Golden Bears’ top finisher, placing 40th in 34:02. Ben Loht (jr. Lewistown/Indian Valley) was second for KU, finishing 50th (34:23) and Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) was 76th (35:45). Frank Nick (fr. Kintnersville/Palisades) placed 90th in 36:22, while Jubilant Kunce (fr. Red Lion/Red Lion Area) and Steve Guthrie (fr. Chester Springs/Devon Prep) were 118th (38:11) and 129th (39:32), respectively.

Women’s Soccer (12-6-2, 6-4-2 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 11/4 — West Chester 3, KU 0 (PSAC playoffs) — KU allowed three quick goals and was shutout by West Chester in the quarterfinals of the PSAC playoffs. The Golden Rams scored three goals in a span of seven minutes. KU was outshot 15-5 and managed just two corners. West Chester had nine, including seven in the second half.

 

Women’s Volleyball (15-16, 4-8 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/8 — Millersville 3, KU 1 — KU battled hard in four sets, but Millersville University emerged with a PSAC East win at Keystone Arena. Millersville went up 2-0 with wins of 25-22 and 25-23 before KU took the third set 25-20. Millersville rebounded in the fourth set to clinch the win with a 25-23 victory. KU was led by Lindsay Confer (so. Wingate/Bald Eagle Area), who had 13 kills. Katie Miller (jr. Elizabethtown/Elizabethtown) and Cali Snell (fr. York/York Suburban) each had nine. Snell also had three blocks. Jamie Celia (so. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had 32 assists, 22 digs, three blocks and three service aces for the Golden Bears. Kelsey Nester (so. Catasauqua/ Catasauqua), who had 14 digs and five kills, also had three blocks. Lindsey Smith (fr. Hanover/Delone Catholic) chipped in with 17 digs.

Men’s Swimming (3-1, 2-1 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/8 — KU 151.5, Edinboro 110.5 — The KU men’s team had seven first-place finishes in individual events and another in a relay to defeat Edinboro University 151.50-110.50. Jack Crellin (fr. Pittsburgh/North Allegheny), Stephen Krater (jr. Port Carbon/Pottsville Area) and John Pandish (sr. Milford/Delaware Valley) each picked up two individual wins for the Golden Bears. Krater, who also placed first in the 200 free relay with teammates John Nicklous (sr. Philadelphia/Father Judge), Derek Orr (sr. Easton/Easton) and Gabriel Recio (so. Lancaster/Hempfield), won the 100 freestyle (49.38) and the 200 freestyle (1:49.99). Crellin swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 in 55.62 and the 200 in 2:01.92. Pandish took the top spot in the 200 butterfly (2:08.26) as well as the 200 IM (2:04.41). Recio also picked up an individual first-place finish in the 100 butterfly (56.38).

Women’s Swimming (4-2, 2-2 PSAC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 11/8 — Edinboro 64, KU 58; KU 110, Mansfield 9 — The KU women’s team split a pair of contests at Edinboro University, beating Mansfield, but falling to Edinboro. Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty) tallied three individual wins for KU, winning the 100 and 200 breaststroke events as well as the 200 IM. She finished the 100 breast in 1:07.97 and the 200 in 2:25.86. In the 200 IM, she recorded a time of 2:14.28. Nicole Hinsdale (fr. Glen Mills/Bayard Rustin) recorded two wins, finishing first in the 200 freestyle (2:01.24) and the 200 backstroke (2:14.77). Allison Sheely (so. Enola/Trinity) also notched a win for KU, taking the top spot in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.97.
