Dave Ben (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville)
became the
all-time scoring leader for KU, scoring 22 points in a PSAC East win
over Mansfield University at Keystone Hall.
Ben’s
late free throws gave him 1,684 for his career, two better than Lock
Jennings (1989-93), who owned the scoring record for 16 seasons.
Ben
was one of five Golden Bears to finish in double-figures, as
Julius Gray (so. Lincoln/Oxford)
had a
career-high 16 points and
Stephen Dennis (jr. West Chester/Henderson),
Andre Woodlin (sr. Philadelphia/Central)
and
Ryan Washington (so. Philadelphia/Wissahickon)
had 15
apiece.
Washington
and
Woodlin
had double-doubles with 12 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Gray
hit four 3-pointers in the game as KU exploded for 54 second-half
points.
SAT 1/24 — KU 69, Shippensburg 68

Ben
scored 20 points and helped KU defeat Shippensburg at Heiges
Fieldhouse. KU trailed by five points late, but rallied to take the
lead in the PSAC East contest.
Dennis
notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Washington
just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds.
Woodlin
had 14 points. KU's defense was strong throughout, holding
Shippensburg to 37.3 percent from the floor.
Washington
led KU with five of the Golden Bears' 10 blocks.

Vivian Melvin (jr. Chichester/Chichester)
scored on
a driving layup with 6.8 seconds left to give KU a PSAC East win
over Mansfield at Keystone Hall. Melvin finished with eight points
and hit career-highs in assists (6) and rebounds (7).
Melissa
McQuade
(so. Pittsburgh/Shaler)
had 16
points and 16 rebounds — her sixth double-double — and
Rachel Wisemiller (jr. Hazleton/Hazleton)
added a
game-high 18 points. KU held the advantage in rebounds by a 43-32
count and outshot the Mountaineers 43.3 percent to 39.1 percent.
SAT 1/24 — Shippensburg 71, KU 60 —
KU's
comeback came up short as Shippensburg University drained 14
3-pointers to win a PSAC East contest at Heiges Feildhouse.
Chauntelle
Schroeder (jr. Toronto, Ont./Mother Theresa)
led four
KU scorers in double-digits with 16 points. The Golden Bears cut an
18-point halftime deficit to one point at 50-49, but Shippensburg
nailed five consecutive 3-pointers to extend its lead.
McQuade
fell short of a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling down
nine boards.
Melvin
finished with 15 points and
Wisemiller
had 14.

SAT-SUN 1/24-25 — 5th/20 Bowie State Invitational —
KU finished in fifth
place out of the 20-team field at the Bowie State Invitational. The
No.8-ranked Golden Bears finished with a 3-3 record on Saturday in
traditional matches and a 4-1 record on Sunday in the Baker matches.
KU knocked down a total of 9,985 pins on the weekend. No. 5
Maryland-Eastern Shore claimed the top spot with 10,495 pins,
Farleigh Dickinson was second with 10,333. No.4 Delaware State
(10,166) and No.17 New Jersey City (10,137) finished third and
fourth, respectively. On Saturday, KU opened with wins over Hampton
(879-824) and No. 7 New Jersey City (1,006-987). KU then lost three
straight tough decisions to No. 11 Sacred Heart (998-989), No. 5
Maryland-Eastern Shore (1,118-1,081), the defending national
champions, and No. 17 Morgan State in the eighth frame of sudden
death after tying 1,015-1,015 in regulation. The Golden Bears
bounced back with a 1,085-699 win over Coppin State.
Kayla
Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin)
led KU, averaging 219.8
pinfall in six matches. She finished second individually and
received All-Tournament honors. Her high game was a 256 vs. UMES.
Kayla
Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop)
averaged 205.6. Jones'
267 vs. Coppin State was the team's highest game on the day.
Jacquelyn Heimbach (sr. Easton/Easton)
dropped an averaged of
197.5 pins. She rolled a 256 vs. UMES.
Janaya Buck (fr. Nothumberland/Shikellamy)
averaged 198 pins in three matches. On Sunday, KU won 751-482 over
Lincoln, 815-599 over Howard, 557-510 over St. Paul's and 771-600
over Virginia State. KU's only loss came to No. 4 Delaware State,
883-827.

women's team dropped a closely contested PSAC meet at Shippensburg
University. KU was led by
Stephanie Jeppesen (jr. Bethlehem/Liberty),
Alex
Crigler (so. West Lawn/Wilson High School)
and
reigning PSAC Swimmer of the Week
Jordan Shapiro (fr. Trenton N.J./Princeton),
each earning two first-place finishes.
Jeppesen
won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.65) and the 200 individual medley
(2:13.28).
Shapiro
took first in the 50 freestyle (25.25) and the 100 backstroke
(1:01.04), while
Crigler
won both the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events with times of 5:18.03
and 10:49.76, respectively.

led the KU
women’s team to a first-place finish out of 19 at the Ursinus
Collegeville Invitational.
Pinter
finished first in the shot put with a throw of 40-6 and
Strickland
won the pole vault (10-6). KU swept the top three spots in the pole
vault with
Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield)
and
Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion)
vaulting
10-0, with
Fellenbaum
taking second with the tie-breaker.
Joanna
Horstmann
(sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West)
finished
second in the 800 with a time of 2:23.20. The KU 1,600 relay also
took first with a time of 4:15.48.

the season going 3-0 at the Domino’s Pizza East Coast Duals.

Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as KU went 1-2 as a team. The Golden
Bears defeated Limestone 29-12, but fell 21-20 to Carson-Newman and
42-6 to Newberry, ranked No. 1 in the region.
Kemmerer picked
up two technical falls and a decision, extending his winning streak
to 31 straight bouts dating back to his national title run in
2006-07. He’s 20-0 on the season.
Zeek
improved to 17-3, winning two decisions and a technical fall.
John
Paukovits (so. Northampton/Northampton)
and
Scott
Snyder (jr. Slatington/Northern Lehigh)
each won two bouts
outside of the Newberry match.
Paukovits won by
major decision against Limestone and by decision against
Carson-Newman.
Snyder won by
decision in both matches.
