Baseball (22-5, 8-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 3/25 — KU 8, WIDENER — KU was led by Shayne Houck (fr. Barto/Boyertown), who went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in the Golden Bears’ win over Widener. Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) and Dom Fantanarosa (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) each went 2-for-3 in the game. Lightcap had a double and an RBI, while Fantanarosa scored a run. Jason Herr (so. Harrisburg/C.D. East) started, pitching two hitless innings and striking out two. Jordan Smith (so. New Milford/Blue Ridge), who earned the win had one inning pitched. Jared Frey (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) had two RBIs for KU, and Cody Montz (fr. Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) scored two runs. Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) and Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) each had RBIs.

      SUN 3/29 — KU vs. Wilmington — Postponed due to rain.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

      SAT-SUN 3/28-3/29 — 2nd/8 at McDaniel Invitational — KU finished in second place at the McDaniel Invitational. Krista Tressler (sr. Fayeteville/Heritage Academy) shot an 84 in the first round and 43 on nine holes in round two to finish in third place. Samantha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) tied for eighth after a two-day score of 130, including a second round score of 43. Chelsea Corbo (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) shot an 88 and 44 to finish with a total of 132, good enough for to place 12. Finishing tied for 15 was Lauren Foulke (sr. Kempton/Kutztown) with a 135, after a 48 on the front nine in the second round.

Women’s Lacrosse (1-7, 0-4 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

      MON 3/23 — MILLERSVILLE 13, KU3 — Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) scored two goals for KU in a loss to Millersville. Janice Kinney (jr. Spring City/Owen J. Roberts) added a goal for the Golden Bears.

      THU 3/26 — Bloomsburg 20, KU 7 — Mehaffey had two goals and an assist for in a loss to Bloomsburg. KU jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from Mehaffey and Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy). Pica scored again in the second half, on an assist from Mehaffey, and Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) scored two goals. Xiomara Marin (sr. West Patterson, N.J./Passaic Valley) added one goal for the Golden Bears.

      SAT 3/28 — Indiana (Pa.) 13, KU 8 — Mehaffey and Healey each scored three goals for the Golden Bears in a loss to IUP. Pica had a goal and an assist for KU, and Kinney scored a goal.

Last Week’s Action

      WED 3/25 — KU 3, MILLESVILLE 2 — Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) had a gamewinning solo home run in the bottom of the sixth in a win over Millersville. Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) hit a game-tying solo home run in the fourth. Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge) finished 2-for-3 and had an RBI single in the second inning. Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) only three hits and one earned run. She struck out six to earn her 13 win of the season.

      WED 3/25 — KU 3, MILLERSVILLE 0 — Arbogast and Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) combined on a five-hit shutout over Millersville. Arbogast pitched the first two innings allowing only three hits and striking out one. Hoch finished off the game allowing only two hits and striking out seven. Sara Golden (fr. Souderton/Souderton) had an RBI triple, finishing 1-for-2. Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart) finished 2-for-3 with an RBI double. Maggie Reifsnyder (so. Philadelphia/Littleflower) had an RBI single.

FRI 3/27 — KU 5, EAST STROUDSBURG 0 — Arbogast pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Golden Bears to a win over East Stroudsburg. Arbogast struck out nine, allowing four baserunners on two hits and two walks. She had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings, but two singles in the sixth. Cameron was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a double. Fitzgerald had a solo home run. Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

      FRI 3/27 — KU VS EAST STROUDSBURG — Denlinger knocked in three runs on two hits as the Golden Bears defeated East Stroudsburg. Denlinger singled in a run in the first inning and doubled in another two in the fifth. Her three RBIs gives her 205 for her career, breaking a PSAC record originally held by Erica Miller, of Bloomsburg (204, 1998-01). Delinger finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Cameron had three hits, finishing a home run shy of the cycle. She also had two RBIs and a run scored. Schiavo had two hits and scored two runs and Tedjeske had two RBIs, with a sacrifice in the third and a single in the sixth. Hoch picked up the win, pitching 3 2/3 innings in relief, and Arbogast earned the save, pitching the final two innings.

Men’s Tennis (4-3)

      WED 3/25 — KU 9, LANCASTER BIBLE 0 — KU swept Lancaster Bible in a non-conference contest. Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) led the Golden Bears winning their No. 1 doubles match and the No. 1 and 2 singles matches, respectively. Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) and Rubens Vianna (Belo Horizonte, BRAZIL) teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles. Goulet won his No. 4 singles match. Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) and Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) won their singles matches. Sharma and Arijit Goswami (Kolkata, INDIA) won their doubles match.

      FRI 3/27 — KU 7 VS ADELPHI 2 — Labitsch and Baquerizo won their doubles match 8-5 and each won their individual contests. Baquerizo won in No. 1 singles, 7-6, 4-6 (10-0). Labitsch won in No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-3. Kaushik Das (Assam, INDIA) won two matches, as well, teaming with Vianna to win 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. Das also won at No. 3 singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Sharma won in the No. 5 singles, 6-1, 7-5. Torrealba closed out the singles competition with a win in the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-0.

      SUN 3/29 — Concordia (N.Y.) 9, KU 0 — The Golden Bears lost 9-0 in their contest at Concordia.

Outdoor Track and Field

      WED 3/25 — Men at Millersville Multi Event— Craig Sherwood (fr. Perkasie/Pennridge) placed second with 5,119 total points in the men's decathlon at Millersville.

WED 3/25 — Women at Millersville Multi Event — Katie Colburn (so. Hanover/South Western) first place in the women's heptathlon with 3,816 total points.

      SAT 3/28 — Men at 2nd/8 at Eigth-Way Meet — Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) hit two NCAA provisional qualifying marks and set a new school record as the Golden Bears finished fourth at the Eight-Way Meet at Moravian College. Rebuck finished first in the discus with a school record toss of 163-11. It also was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. His second-place finish in the hammer throw (178-1) also was a provisional qualifying mark. Rebuck also sixth in the shot put (45-10). The men finished fourth with 107 points. Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara) and Matt Cannell (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) also picked up first-place finishes. Dixon was first in the 400 (49.58) and Cannell was first in the long jump (22-8). Dixon also finished fourth in 200 (22.59), while Cannell was seventh in the triple jump (42-4). Robert Clews (so. Ashland/North Schuylkill) finished fifth in the long jump (21-4 1/4) and eighth in the triple jump (41-8 3/4). Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) placed second in the high jump (6-2 3/4) and Trenton Branam (jr. Washington Crossing/Pennsbury) was fourth in the javelin (176-5). Sam Wall (so. Newville/Big Spring) placed in three events with his top finish coming in the discus, where he was fourth (139-4). Wall also finished fifth in the shot put (47-0 3/4) and eighth in the hammer throw (151-2). In the pole vault, Justin Germani (so. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) tied for fourth with Percell Berry (fr. Norristown/Methacton) with a mark of 13-11 1/4. William Hodges (jr. Levittown/Neshaminy) tied for sixth (13-5 1/4). T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) was third in the 110 hurdles (15.02), followed by Sam McKellar (sr. Allentown/Dieruff), who was seventh (15.82), and Matt Bailey (fr. Ramsey, N.J./Ramsey), was eighth (15.90). Jason Rowles (jr. Broomall/Marple Newtown) was fifth in the 400 hurdles (58.33). Frank Nick (fr. Kintnersville/Palisades) was seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:14.75).

      SAT 3/28 — Women at 5th/8 at Eight-Way Meet — Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West), Cristina Reimer (so. Chester Springs/Downingtown East) and Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) all had first-place finishes for KU. Horstmann won the 3,000 (10:16.66) and Reimer won the 3,000 steeplechase (11:23.44). Pinter took the top spot in the discus (132-1). KU finished fifth with 107 points. Katie Quinn (jr. Glenolden/Interboro) finished fifth in the 100 (12.88) and sixth in the 200 (26.40). In the 400, Jessica Schlecter (jr. Chalfont/Central Bucks South) was third (1:02.43) and Stephanie Grimm (fr. Fleetwood/Oley Valley) was eighth (2:25.01). Grimm also placed fourth in the 1,500 (4:48.06). Lynn Lisofsky (so. Wilkes-Barre/James M. Coughlin) was third in the 400 hurdles (1:07.99) and Jessica Donovan (sr. Newtown/Pennsbury) was fourth (1:09.06). Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) finished third in the pole vault (10-6), ahead of Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield), who was fourth (10-0) and Alison Wise (jr. Fivepointville/Garden Spot), who was eighth (9-0 1/4). Wise also placed sixth in the javelin (107-4). Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) was third in the long jump (17-6 3/4) and fourth in the triple jump (35-0 1/4).
