SPRING SPORTS

Baseball (26-9, 12-4 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       FRI 4/10 — Bloomsburg 1, KU 0 — Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) pitched six innings of four-hit ball and struck out nine in the Golden Bears' loss to Bloomsburg. Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) hit two singles. James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) and Brett Wigder (so. Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull) each had a single.

       FRI 4/10 — KU 7, Bloomsburg 5 — Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) hit a grand slam in KU's win over Bloomsburg. Kacelowicz finished the game 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Trent Mertz (so. Kutztown/Kutztown) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three to earn the win. Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin) allowed only one hit and struck out two, earning his sixth save of the season. Shayne Houck (fr. Boyertown/Boyertown) finished the game 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a double, and Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

        SAT 4/11 — KU 9, BLOOMSBURG 6 — Houck finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored in the Golden Bears' win. Houck had two singles and a home run. Ryan Cassidy (jr. Langhorne/Archbishop Wood) pitched six innings to earn the win, striking out four and surrendering two unearned runs. Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) had three RBIs. Jared Frey (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) and Kacelowicz each finished with two hits with Frey collecting two RBIs.

       SAT 4/11 — KU 6, BLOOMSBURG 1 — Kacelowicz was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Lightcap and Jeff Kistle (so. Sandyston, N.J./Kittatinny) broke the each had doubles, with Kistle collecting an RBI. Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) had an RBI single and Houck hit a two-RBI single. Adam Maini (jr. Macungie/Emmaus) picked up the win, pitching six innings, allowing one run on six hits. He struck out seven for his fifth win of the season. Lightcap's double in the sixth gives him 48 for his career, one shy of the school record.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

       SUN-MON 4/5-4/6 — 9th/20 at California (Pa.) Invitational — KU was led by Krista Tressler (sr. Fayeteville/Heritage Academy) to a ninth-place finish at the California Invitational. Tressler tied for 16th place with a 167. She shot an 82 in the first round and an 85 on the final round. Samatha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) finished with a two-day total of 175 to place her 27th. After a first round 90, she bounced back with a final round 85. Chelsea Corbo (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East), who shot a two-day score of 182 finished in a three-way tie for 42nd place.

Women’s Lacrosse (1-11, 0-7 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 4/8 — SHIPPENSBURG 11, KU 7 — Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) scored three goals and had an assist in a loss to Shippensburg. Jennifer Natalini (jr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove), Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy), Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Julie Rosenkaimer (fr. Lansdale/North Penn) each scored a goal. Healey also had an assist.

       THU 4/9 — GANNON 19, KU 16 — Pica scored four goals and had two assists as KU lost to Gannon University. Megan Schwar (Alpha, N.J./Phillipsburg) netted a hat trick, while Healey had two goals and an assist. Mehaffey finished with two goals and Janice Kinney (jr. Spring City/Owen J. Roberts), Amanda Steczak (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville), Danielle Shore (jr. Souderton/Souderton Area) and Rosenkaimer each had one goal. Rosenkaimer also tallied an assist.

Softball (36-7-1, 11-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 4/8 — KU 8, Millersville 0 — Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) and Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) led KU to a win over Millersville. Denlinger, who homered in the fifth, finished 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs. Arbogast allowed six hits and struck out 11 in a complete-game shutout. Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge), Kim Morrison (sr. Newmarket, ONTARIO/Sir William Mulock) and Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) each had two hits. Schiavo and Tedjeske each had two RBIs and a run scored, while Morrison scored two runs and drove in another. Tedjeske homered and doubled, and both Morrison and Schiavo hit triples.

       WED 4/8 — KU 9, Millersville 1 — Schiavo collected four hits in a win over Millersville. Schiavo finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Morrison and Maggie Reifsnyder (so. Philadelphia/Littleflower) each doubled, while Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO /Resurrection) and Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) each homered. Denlinger went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) picked up her 10th win of the season, allowing just one run on one hit and a walk. She struck out five.

       THU 4/9 — Shippensburg 2, KU 1 — Fitzgerald scored the only run with a solo home run in KU's loss to Shippensburg. Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart) finished 2-for-3 for KU with a double.

       THU 4/9 — KU 3, Shippensburg 1 — Fitzgerald hit a home run to break a tie and lead the KU to a win. Denlinger drew an intentional walk to move her into sole possession of second place on the NCAA Division II career walks list. She now has 142 and needs three more to tie the all-time record. Hoch picked up her 11th win of the season, allowing one unearned run on six hits. She struck out five in seven innings of work.

Men’s Tennis (7-3, 3-0 PSAC)

       THU 4/9 — KU 7, Bloomsburg 2 — KU was led by Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) and Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) in a win over Bloomsburg. The two teamed up to win the No. 2 doubles match, and Labitsch won at No. 2 singles. Sharma won in straight sets at No. 4 singles. Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) and Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) also won their singles matches.

       FRI 4/10 — MERCYHURST — postponed

Women’s Tennis (9-3, 3-1 PSAC East)

       WED 4/8 — KU 9, CHEYNEY 0 — KU swept Cheyney University with all six singles players winning 6-0, 6-0 in its matches. Rohini Das (jr. Calcutta, INDIA) won at No. 1 singles and teamed with Tess Wright (so. Lewisburg/Lewisburg) to win at No. 3 doubles. Wright won her singles match in the No. 4 spot. Barbara Joerns (jr. Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) won at No. 2 singles and teamed with Shir Suez (jr. Even Yehuda, ISREAL) to win at No. 2 doubles. Suez won at No. 5 singles. Sabrina Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA) and Nicole Devine (fr. Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) teamed to win at No. 1 singles, and Arnaud won at No. 3 singles. Chelsea White (fr. Landenberg/Avon Grove) picked up a win in the No. 6 singles match.

       THU 4/9 — Bloomsburg 5, KU 4 — Das and Joerns won at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively as KU lost to Bloomsburg. Arnaud picked up the other KU win at No. 3 singles.

Outdoor Track and Field

       SAT 4/11 — Men at Bison Invitational — William Hodges (jr. Levittown/Neshaminy) collected a first-place finish to lead KU at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic. Hodges took the top spot in the men’s pole vault, posting a 15-3. Teammate Craig Sherwood (fr. Perkasie/Pennridge) tied for second (14-9) and Justin Germani (so. Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) tied for fourth (14-3 1/4). Chris Boutsikaris (sr. Newton, N.J./Newton) finished fourth in the hammer (175-9), while Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) was fifth (174-1). Rebuck also placed sixth in the discus (161-11). Jack Iosue (fr. Manheim/Manheim Central) placed seventh in the javelin (181-9). On the track, Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara) finished fifth in the 400 (49.59) and helped the 1,600 relay team to a sixth-place finish (3:24.91). Shaun Crump (jr. Boyertown/Boyertown), Matt Reightler (so. Bethlehem/Northampton) and Percell Berry (fr. Norristown/Methacton) also were members of the 1,600 relay team. T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) finished fourth in the 110 hurdles (14.98) and Shane Harvey (so. Pattenburg, N.J./North Hunterdon) followed in seventh (15.22).

       SAT 4/11 — Women at Bison Invitational — Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) led the women’s team, tying second in the pole vault (10-11 3/4). Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) tied for fourth behind Weigle with a vault of 10-6. Katie Quinn (jr. Glenolden/Interboro) placed sixth in the heptathlon with 4,003 points, and Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) tied for seventh in the shot put (39-0 1/4).
