SPRING SPORTS

Baseball (29-11, 14-6 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 4/14 — KU 15, Penn State-Berks 7 — Jared Frey (jr. Mohrsville/Schuylkill Valley) hit a three-run homer, Shayne Houck (fr. Barto/Boyertown) and Chad Lightcap (sr. Boyertown/Boyertown) had solo home runs as KU defeated Penn State-Berks. Mark Renda (so. Lansdale/North Penn) finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Michael Dugan (so. Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) drove in two runs and scored once. Brad Stoudt (fr. Mertztown/Brandywine Heights) had three RBIs and Cody Montz (fr. Schuylkill Haven/Schuylkill Haven) had two hits and scored two runs.

       FRI 4/17 — KU 9, SHIPPENSBURG 5 — Darin Gorski (jr. Mount Joy/Donegal) struck out 10 in a complete-game win over Shippensburg. Matt Kulbacki (jr. Hershey/Hershey) was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Lightcap was 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs in the game. He is now in fourth place in KU history with 18 home runs in his career. He also moved into fourth place in RBIs with 139. Mike Kacelowicz (jr. Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, a double and a stolen base.

       FRI 4/17 — KU 5, SHIPPENSBURG 4 — Kacelowicz was 1-for-2 with the game-winning RBI over Shippensburg. Mike Bucklin (jr. Shillington/Governor Mifflin), pitching in relief, earned the win. He did not allow a hit or a run, while striking out one batter. Houck had a three-run home run and finished the game 2-for-3. James Quigley (so. Bensalem/Bensalem) was 2-for-4.

       SAT 4/18 — Shippensburg 9, KU 2 — Corey Buletza (so. St. Claire/Pottsville) and Houck both finished 2-for-3 in a loss to Shippensburg. Buletza scored a run and Houck had an RBI.

       SAT 4/18 — Shippensburg 9, KU 2 — Quigley was 2-for-4 with an RBI in a loss to Shippensburg.

Women’s Golf

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 4/14 — at Dickinson College Invitational — canceled

       FRI-SAT 4/17-4/18 — 2nd/4 at KUTZTOWN SPRING INVITATIONAL — KU finished in second place at the Kutztown Invitational at the Berkleigh Golf Club. Krista Tressler (sr. Fayeteville/Heritage Academy) finished tied for second. She shot a first-round best 86 and an 88 in the second round to finish with a 174. Samantha Rumbley (so. Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) finished eighth (93-92—185) and Chelsea Corbo (fr. Harrisburg/Central Dauphin East) was ninth (93-93—186). Lauren Foulke (sr. Kempton/Kutztown) recorded a 96-100—196 to finish 15th, while Morgan Todd (fr. Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) shot a 102-95—197 to place 16th.

  

Women’s Lacrosse (2-13, 0-9 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 4/14 — Millersville 17, KU 6 — Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) scored two goals and Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) had a goal and two assists in a loss to Millersville. Julie Rosenkaimer (fr. Lansdale/North Penn), Janice Kinney (jr. Spring City/Owen J. Roberts) and Xiomara Marin (sr. West Patterson, N.J./Passaic Valley) also scored goals.

       THU 4/16 — BLOOMSBURG 22, KU 8 — Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) and Mehaffey each scored three goals in a loss to Bloomsburg. Pica and Kinney had goals, and Marin had an assist.

       SAT 4/18 — KU 19, EDINBORO 9 — Marin had two goals and Amanda Steczak (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville) had a goal and an assist in a win over Edinboro. Mehaffey had six goals and two assists, while Healey had four goals and an assist. Pica and Kinney each scored twice, and Jennifer Natalini (jr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) and Megan Schwar (Alpha, N.J./Phillipsburg) scored once. Natalini also had an assist. Erin Myers (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) recorded six saves in the cage to pick up her second win.

Last Week’s Action

       TUE 4/14 — KU 7, East Stroudsburg 2 — Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) had a two-run home run and finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Kim Morrison (sr. Newmarket, ONTARIO /Sir William Mulock) hit a game tying two-run home run. Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) earned her 12th win of the season, throwing five shutout innings. She allowed just four hits, a walk and struck out six. Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart) and finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) was 2-for-3 with two walks.

       TUE 4/14 — KU 17, East Stroudsburg 10 — Cameron finished 3-for-5 with three homers, six RBIs and three runs scored in a win over East Stroudsburg. Two of Cameron's home runs came in the same inning. Denlinger was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and four runs scored. Hannum hit two homers, going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Ashley Fitzgerald (sr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection) homered, finishing 2-for-2 with two RBIs, three runs scored and two walks. Sara Golden (fr. Souderton/Souderton), Maggie Reifsnyder (so. Philadelphia/Littleflower) and Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge) each had two hits for KU. Schiavo scored twice and had an RBI. Hoch picked the win, pitching the final three innings. She allowed one run on two hits and a walk.

       FRI 4/17 — BLOOMSBURG 2, KU 1 — Denlinger was 2-for-2 and Fitzgerald was 2-for-3 in a loss to Bloomsburg. Denlinger walked in the third inning, to set the NCAA Division II all-time record for walks.

       FRI 4/17 — KU 3, BLOOMSBURG 0 — Hoch pitched a complete-game shutout in a win over Bloomsburg. Hoch allowed only three hits and struck out three. Fitzgerald was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Denlinger was 1-for-2 with an RBI double and a run scored.

       SAT 4/18 — KU 8, WEST CHESTER 5 — Michelle McGinty (fr. Warminster/Archbishop Wood) had a game-winning three-run home run against West Chester. Fitzgerald hit a grand slam and finished 2-for-4. Hoch picked up the win on the mound, allowing one hit and striking out three. Maggie Reifsnyder (so. Philadlephia/Littleflower) finished 3-for-4 with a run scored, and Denlinger was 2-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.

       SAT 4/18 — KU 8, WEST CHESTER 0 (5 innings) — Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) picked up the win over West Chester, allowing only five hits. Denlinger finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a double. Krista Tedjeske (so. Summerhill/Forest Hills) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Morrison and Schiavo each collected two hits and scored two runs. Cameron was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Laine Heisler (jr. Reading/Reading) was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

Men’s Tennis (11-4, 5-0 PSAC)

       THU 4/16 — KU 6, MERCYHURST 1 — Lukas Labitsch (sr. Bruck an der Mur, AUSTRIA) and Arpit Sharma (jr. Kolkata, INDIA) each won all their matches in a win over Mercyhurst. The duo teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles, with Labitsch winning his No. 3 singles match and Sharma winning No. 5 singles. Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) and Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) won at No. 3 doubles. Baquerizo also got a win at No. 1 singles. Andrew Torrealba (jr. Pembroke Pines, Fla./Charles W. Flanagan) collected the other win in the No. 6 singles.

       FRI 4/17 — Queens 5, KU 4 (at Bloomsburg Duals) —  Labitsch won at No. 3 singles and teamed with Sharma to win his No. 2 doubles match. Kaushik Das (Assam, INDIA) and Rubens Vianna (sr. Belo Horiznote, BRAZIL) won at No. 1 doubles, while Santiago Baquerizo (sr. Guayaquil, ECUADOR) picked up a win at No. 1 singles.

       SAT 4/18 — KU 9, West Liberty 0 (at Bloomsburg Duals) —  Labitsch won his No. 3 singles match and teamed with Sharma to win at No. 2 doubles as KU beat West Liberty. Baquerizo, Das and Jonathan Goulet (jr. Quebec, CANADA) also won their doubles and singles matches. Torrealba earned a victory at No. 5 singles and Arijit Goswami (fr. Kolkata, INDIA) won his No. 6 singles match.

       SAT 4/18 — KU 9, W.Va. Wesleyan 0 (at Bloomsburg Duals) — Labitsch won his No. 3 singles match and teamed with Sharma to win at No. 2 doubles as KU beat West Virginia Wesleyan. Baquerizo, Das and Goulet also won their doubles and singles matches. Das and Vianna won at the No. 1 doubles match. Torrealba earned a victory at No. 6 singles.

       SUN 4/19 — KU 9, MILLERSVILLE 0 — The team of Labitsch and Sharma won their No. 1 doubles match in a win over Millersville. Labitsch won at No. 2 singles and Sharma won in No. 2 singles. Baquerizo and Goulet won at No. 3 doubles. Baquerizo won at No. 1 singles. Das and Vianna won at No. 2 doubles. Vianna, Torrealba and Goswami also won singles matches for KU.

Women’s Tennis (10-4, 4-1 PSAC East)

       SAT 4/18 — Concordia 8 (N.Y.), KU 1 (at Bloomsburg Duals) — Nicole Devine (fr. Allentown/Allentown Central Catholic) picked up a win at the No. 4 singles spot as KU lost to Concordia.

       SUN 4/19 — KU 7, MILLERSVILLE 2 — Rohini Das (jr.Calcutta, INDIA) led KU, winning at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles. She teamed with Sabrina Arnaud (jr. Pintendre, CANADA) to win in their doubles match. Arnaud also won at No. 3 singles. Barbara Joerns (Ludwigshafen, GERMANY) picked up a win at the No. 2 singles. Joerns paired with Devine, who won her No. 4 singles match, for a win at No. 2 doubles. Shir Suez (jr. Even Yehuda, ISREAL) also earned KU a point with her victory at No. 6 singles.

Outdoor Track and Field

       SAT 4/18 — Men at All-American Meet — Chris Boutsikaris (sr. Newton, N.J./Newton) set a KU school record in the hammer throw to lead KU at the All-American individual meet. Boutsikaris placed second in the hammer with a distance of 185-8 1/4. The school record toss bested his NCAA provisional qualifying mark he hit earlier in the season. Also scoring an NCAA provisional qualifying mark was Cody Hartzler (sr. Belleville/Indian Valley) with his first-place finish in the high jump (6-8 3/4). In the discus, Jason Rebuck (jr. Southampton/William Tennent) claimed the top spot with a throw of 158-2 3/4. He placed third in the shot put with a distance of 45-1 1/4 and third in the hammer (177-11 1/2). In the javelin, Jack Iosue (fr. Manheim/Manheim Central) had a second-place finish with a distance of 190-1 1/2. Matt Cannell (fr. Douglassville/Daniel Boone) had two top-three finishes on the day. In the long jump, he finished second (22-7 3/4) and he placed third in the triple jump (44-4 1/4). On the track, Frank Nick (fr. Kintersville/Palisades) was the only first-place finisher. He claimed the top spot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:53.31. Ryan Reich (fr. Oley/Oley Valley) placed second in the 1,500 (4:04.56) and T.J. Longmore (jr. Lititz/Manheim Twp.) placed second in 110-meter hurdles (14.73). Kendel Dixon (jr. Atglen/Octorara) also had a second-place finish, with a 48.91 in the 400 dash.

       SAT 4/18 — Women at All-American Meet — Ashley Pinter (so. Bethlehem/Liberty) had two first-place finishes and a second-place finish to lead KU at the All-American individual meet. She had a distance of 151-10 in the hammer throw and 39-3 1/2 in the shot put. Pinter's second-place finish came in the discus, with a distance of 128-6. Christina Costanzo (fr. Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) nabbed two first-place finishes on the day. She had a long jump distance of 17-5 1/2 and a triple jump distance of 35-3 1/4. Alex Butler (sr. Montoursville/Montoursville) placed third in the long jump, posting a distance of 16-4. In the pole vault, Rachel Weigle (jr. Red Lion/Red Lion) and Melissa Fellenbaum (fr. Landisville/Hempfield) took first and second, respectively. Weigle had a vault of 11-2 and Fellenbaum behind her with 10-0. On the track, Joanna Horstmann (sr. Downingtown/Downingtown West) and Cheryl Dingman (jr. Lansdale/North Penn) each had first-place finishes. Horstmann took the top spot in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:17.31. In the 1,500, Dingman finished in first with a time of 4:56.78 and Maureen Watson (jr. Walnutport/Allentown Central Catholic) placed third with a time of 5:01.03. With a time of 12.82 in the 100 dash, Katie Quinn (jr. Glenolden/Interboro) came in third place.
