WINTER SPORTS

Men’s Basketball (14-0, 2-0 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 1/13 - KU 87, EAST STROUDSBURG 84 - Stephen Dennis (West Chester/Henderson) finished with a career-high 42 points in leading third-ranked Kutztown to a victory over 24th-ranked East Stroudsburg. Dennis tied his school record for made free throws in a single game with 16. Dennis is 92 points away from tying the school scoring record of 2,017 points. Julius Gray (Lincoln University/Oxford) scored 19 points and made all three of his 3-point shot attempts. Tamir Johnson (Philadelphia/Imhotep Charter) scored 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds.

       SAT 1/16 - KU 83, Millersville 63 - Dennis scored a game-high 35 points to lead KU to a victory over Millersville. Ryan Washington (Philadelphia/Wissahickon) added  a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, he also notched four assists and three blocks.  Johnson had 11 points and a career-high 17 rebounds.

Women’s Basketball (10-5, 1-1 PSAC East)

Last Week’s Action

       WED 1/13 - KU 85, EAST STROUDSBURG 52 -  Chauntelle Schroeder (Toronto, Ontario/Mother Teresa Catholic) led KU with a double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Vivian Melvin (Chichester/Chichester) contributed 15 points, the seventh straight game she has scored in double figures. Rachel Wisemiller (Hazleton/Hazleton) finished with nine points, a career-high eight assists, six blocked shots and six rebounds. She also moved into second place all time in career 3-pointers. Wisemiller sunk three 3-pointers to move into second place all time in career 3-pointers with 146.

       SAT 1/16 - Millersville 61, KU 42 - Wisemiller led KU with nine points in a loss to Millersville. Kristen Murray (Harrisburg/Trinity) added seven points, while Schroeder had eight rebounds and five steals.

Women’s Bowling (34-25, 5-2 NEC)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT-SUN 1/16-17 - at New Year’s Knockdown - Jess Abrecht (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) held the highest average of 190.5 in five games, followed by Chelsea Adam (Reading/Exeter) with a 186.0 in five games. Nicole Gatto (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) had an average of 185.6 in three games.

Men’s Indoor Track & Field

Last Week’s Action

       THU-FRI 1/14-15 - GOLDEN BEAR INVITE - Matt Cannell (Douglassville/Daniel Boone) led KU with a first-place finish in the long jump (22-00 1/2). He also placed second in the 55-meter dash (6.72) and fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.51). Sean Gentry (Lansdale/North Penn) had a distance of 21-11 3/4 in the high jump to finish first. Gentry also scored third place finishes in the long jump (21-11 3/4) and triple jump (43-04 1/2). Justin Germani (Birdsboro/Daniel Boone) had a first-place finish with a height of 15 feet, seven and three quarter inches in the pole vault. Will Hodges (Levittown/Neshaminy) placed just behind Germani in third place with a vault of 14 feet, seven and one quarter inches. Jason Rebuck (Southampton/William Tennent) placed third in the shot put with a distance of 44 feet, eight and three quarter inches. He finished fourth in the 35-pound weight toss with a throw of 50 feet, 10 and three quarter inches. Hale Paul (Elkins Park/Cheltenham) followed in shot put with a distance of 43 feet, five inches to place fourth. Kevin Rodgers (Clifton Heights/Upper Darby) placed second in the in the 3,000 meter, posting a time of 9:09.91, while Ryan Reich (Oley/Oley Valley) took second in the mile with a time of 4:29.85. Eli Weeks (Pottstown/Owen J. Roberts) took third place with a time of 2:04.30 in the 800-meter and Craig Sherwood (Perkasie/Pennridge) finished with 4,125 to take third place in the heptathlon.

Women’s Indoor Track & Field

Last Week’s Action

       THU-FRI 1/14-15 - GOLDEN BEAR INVITE - Brooke Mathews (Reedsville/Indian Valley), Shante Grayer (Allentown/William Allen), Ashley Pinter (Bethlehem/Liberty), and Keri Brown (Southampton, NJ/Seneca) all had first-place finishes. Mathews prevailed in the 200-meter run (27.61 seconds). Grayer won the 55-meter dash (7.61). Pinter won the 20-pound weight throw (44 feet, 4 inches) and shot put (41-2.50). Brown won the 800-meter run (2:21.61). Finishing behind Brown in the 200-meter dash was Sarah Messner (Maple Glen/Upper Dublin). Other Kutztown women who earned second-place finishes were Rachel Hunte (Chester Springs/Downingtown East) in the 500-meter run (1:21.59), April Doyle (Greenfield Twp./Lakeland) in the weight throw (42-51/2), Katie Colburn (Hanover/South Western) in the pentathlon (2,768 points) and Rachel Weigle (Red Lion/Red Lion) in the pole vault (10 feet). Hunte and Brown along with Jessica Schlecter (Chalfont/Central Bucks South) and Lynn Lisofsky (Wilkes-Barre/Coughlin) were also second in the 4 x 400-meter relay (4:13.30). Schlecter and Lisofsky also finished third (1:03.80) and fourth (1:04.07), respectively in the 400-meter dash.

Wrestling (6-2)

Last Week’s Action

       SAT 1/16 - KU 20, West Liberty State 16; KU 40, Seton Hill 6 - Tim Darling (Nazareth/Nazareth) gave helped the Golden Bears take down No. 13 ranked West Liberty State. His major decision was the difference maker. He also had a 90-second pin fall in his earlier match. Chris Sheetz (Barto/Upper Perkiomen) had a two pins on the day his quickest at two minutes, 25 seconds and a second at three minutes, 46 seconds. John Paukovits (Northampton/Northampton) won each of his decisions, including a major decision. David Zeek (Newtown/Council Rock North) won both of his matches on the day with one pin.
