KU FINISHES SECOND AT EASTERN SHORE HAWK CLASSIC

MILLSBORO, Del. — The Kutztown University women's bowling team went 4-2 on Sunday at Eastern Shore Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The Golden Bears, 15-3 record and knocked down 16,009 pins, finished second behind Vanderbilt which had 16,366 pins. Delaware State (15,821), Maryland Eastern-Shore (15,810), and Fairleigh Dickinson (15,466) rounded out the top five of the 20-team tournament.

Sacred Heart's Sarah Pelletier led the tournament with a 208.5 average and led the All-Classic team. Kayla Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) and Kayla Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) were selected to the All-Classic team for KU with 204.5 and 202 averages, respectively. Vanderbilt's Michelle Peloquin (205.5) and Josie Earnest (203.1) rounded out the All-Classic team.

KU's Stephanie Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson) finished sixth and Jacquelyn Heimbach (sr. Easton/Easton) finished in 15th place for individual play.

KU topped Long Island University in the first match of baker competition by a score of 675-408. The Golden Bears dropped the next match against No. 17 ranked Saint Peter's 706-676.

In the third match, KU rolled the tournament high 868 pins in their win over No. 19 ranked St. Francis (N.Y.), which had a 689. Kutztown used game scores of 232, 232, 190 and 214 to set the high score.

No. 2 ranked Vanderbilt downed KU 816-697 in the fourth match of the day. Vanderbilt had scores of 189, 234, 170 and 223, while KU had scores of 199, 164, 155 and 179.

KU got back on track with a 783-720 win over Hampton University. KU used scores of 162, 185, 241 and 195 in the victory.

The final match of the day was a 737-697 win over No. 6 ranked Sacred Heart. KU found themselves in a 26-pin deficit after the first two games. However, scores of 199 and 212 in the third and fourth game gave the Golden Bears enough to win the match.

The Golden Bears will be off for over a month before returning to action on Sat. January 10 at the St. Francis New Year Knockdown tournament.


KU GOES 6-0 IN TEAM COMPETITION SATURDAY

MILLSBORO, Del. — The Kutztown University women’s bowling team went 6-0 Saturday, improving to 11-1 at the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

KU is in second place, behind Vanderbilt, with 11,573 pins. Vanderbilt leads the 20-team tournament with 11,656 pins.

The 6-0 day included the program’s first win over Fairleigh Dickinson, a 1,058-889 win. It was one of four matches in which KU scored more than 1,000 pins.

KU (27-9) also won 1,023-745 over Bowie State, 1,013-938 over Delaware State, 1,010-787 over Elizabeth City, 885-684 over Howard and 886-790 over Adelphi.

Kayla Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) led the way for the Golden Bears, averaging a 204.5 in six games. Her high game of the day was a 233 against Adelphi.

Kayla Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) also finished with a better-than-200 average with a 202.0 over six games. She rolled a 228 against Delaware State and a 225 against Fairleigh Dickinson.

Steph Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson) had a big day, as well, netting a 199.2 average in six games, which included a high game of 233 against Fairleigh Dickinson. Chelsea Adam (fr. Reading/Exeter), who also had a high game against Fairleigh Dickinson (232), averaged a 192.8 over five games.

Jacquelyn Heimbach (sr. Easton/Easton) rounded out the KU bowlers with a 189.0 average over six games. Her high game was 212 against Elizabeth City.

KU will close out the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic Sunday with six four-game baker matches, including contests against No. 2 Vanderbilt, which is leading the tournament, and No. 6 Sacred Heart.


KU FINISHES FRIDAY'S BAKER MATCHES 5-1

MILLSBORO, Del. — The Kutztown University women's bowling team is in fourth place after the first day of 20 teams at the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic, hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Friday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (21-9) were 5-1 on the day in baker game competition.

KU defeated Bethune-Cookman (1,030-782), St. Paul's (967-759), 22nd-ranked Morgan St. (924-753), No. 8-ranked New Jersey City (989-859) and Cheyney (868-468). No. 1-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore defeated KU 993-920.
