JONES SETS SCHOOL
RECORD, KU PLACES FIFTH
ELMWOOD, N.J. —
Kayla Jones (fr.
Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) set a new single game
school record with a 275 and placed fourth individually as the
Kutztown University women’s bowling team placed fifth at the
Fairleigh Dickinson Invitational.
Vanderbilt took the top spot, while
host Fairleigh Dickinson was second, New Jersey City third, and
Delaware State fourth.
KU was 2-1 in baker matches on Sunday
in the playoff rounds after going 3-2 in baker matches Friday and
1-4 in traditional matches Saturday.
KU, ranked 16th in the nation,
defeated No. 1 Maryland-Eastern Shore twice in baker matches Sunday,
both times by scores of 4-0. New Jersey City handed KU its only
baker loss, 4-3 in the second round.
Maryland-Eastern Shore won 968-926 in
traditional matches Saturday against KU. The Golden Bears also lost
to No. 2 Vanderbilt (1,133-966), No. 9 Delaware State (986-941) and
No. 17 St. Peters (933-892). KU defeated No. 22 Morgan State
934-767.
Friday, KU defeated No. 19 St. Francis
(730-639), No. 6 Sacred Heart (742-718), No. 15 Wisconsin-Whitewater
(755-654). KU lost in a close match 806-805 to No. 7 Fairleigh
Dickinson and 756-683 to No. 13 Adelphi.
Jones led the Golden Bears, averaging
a 221.2 average. She also set a school record with a 275 against
Vanderbilt en route to an all-tournament team selection.
Steph Ray (so.
West Lawn/Wilson) was second on the team, placing
21st individually with a 191.2 average.
Kayla Stamm (so.
Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) was third, placing 23rd
with a 185.2 average.
