BOWIE, M.D. —
The Kutztown University women’s bowling team finished in fifth
place out of the 20-team field at the Bowie State Invitational
on Sunday.
The No.8-ranked Golden Bears finished with a 4-1 record on
Sunday in the Baker matches, giving them a 7-4 record for the
two-day event.
KU had a total of 9,985 pins knocked down on the weekend. No.5
Maryland-Eastern Shore claimed the top spot with 10,495 pins,
Farleigh Dickinson in second with 10,333. No.4 Delaware State
(10,166) and No.17 New Jersey City (10,137) finished took third
and fourth, respectively.
KU started off the day with a 751-482 win over Lincoln in a
Baker match. KU had set scores of 204, 162, 212 and 173 in the
winning effort.
The Golden Bears followed up with a win over Howard College by a
score of 815-599. They had set scores of 219, 193, 185 and 218.
KU took a 557-510 advantage into the last set against St. Paul’s
and were able to hold on to very a 766-753 win.
After beating Virginia State by a score of 771-600, the Golden
Bears dropped their last Baker match of the day to No.4 Delaware
State. KU had their team-high score of the day in the losing
effort with 827, however it was not enough to top Delaware
State’s 883 total pins.
Kayla Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin)
finished second individually at the tournament and received
All-Tournament honors.
The Golden Bears will return to action on Friday when they host
the KU Invitational at Bowl-O-Rama in Reading.
Saturday, Jan. 24
BOWIE, M.D. — The
Kutztown University women's bowling team split six
matches on Saturday at the Bowie State Invitational.
Kutztown opened with wins over
Hampton (879-824) and No. 7 New Jersey City (1,006-987).
KU then lost three straight tough decisions. KU fell to
No. 11 Sacred Heart (998-989) and No. 5 Maryland-Eastern Shore
(1,118-1,081), the defending national champions. Then, the
Golden Bears finished regulation tied at 1,015 with No. 17
Morgan State. KU lost in the eighth frame of sudden death.
The Golden Bears bounced back
with a 1,085-699 win over Coppin State.
Kayla Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin)
led KU, averaging 219.8 pinfall in six matches. Her high
game of the day was a 255 vs. Coppin State.
Kayla Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) averaged
205.6. Jones' 267 vs. Coppin State was the team's highest
game on the day.
Jacquelyn Heimbach (sr. Easton/Easton) dropped an
averaged of 197.5 pins. She rolled a 256 vs. UMES.
Janaya Buck (fr. Nothumberland/Shikellamy) averaged 198
pins in three matches.
