DOVER, Del. — The Kutztown University women's bowling team dropped four of five baker matches Sunday to finish 5-5 and in sixth place at the Capitol Classic, hosted by Delaware State University.

The Golden Bears (61-27) fell 717-696 to Fairleigh Dickinson in the first match of the day, but bounced back to win 807-754 over the defending national champion, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.

Maryland-Eastern Shore avenged the loss with a 4-3 win in best-of-seven baker matches later in the tournament. The 4-3 loss was sandwiched between a 4-1 loss to New Jersey City and a 4-3 loss to Sacred Heart.

The Golden Bears will return to the lanes at the Morgan State Collegiate Classic in Perry Hall, Md., Feb. 14 and 15.

DOVER, Del. — The Kutztown University women's bowling team won four of five matches and stands in fifth place after day one of the Capitol Classic, hosted by Delaware State University.

KU's only loss came at the hands of the hosts, losing 1,041-878 in the opening match.  The Golden Bears then rattled off wins over St. Francis (969-856), Coppin State (917-779), Saint Peter's (845-713) and Howard (912-728).

Kutztown was led by Kayla Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop), who averaged 199.2 pins in five games, with a game-high of 216 vs. Coppin.  Jacquelyn Heimbach (sr. Easton/Easton) averaged 186.8, boosted by a 246 rolled against St. Francis.

KU is now 60-23 on the season.  Action concludes Sunday.
