GOLDEN BEARS FINISH FOURTH AT KU INVITATIONAL

READING, PA - Kutztown finished fourth of 24 teams at the KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes Sunday afternoon.

Kuztown lost to eventual champion Delaware State 4-1 in the semifinals, before losing to New Jersey City 4-1 in the third-place match. 

Delaware State defeated Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-3, in the championship match.

Earlier on Sunday, Kutztown won three baker matches over Lincoln (731-465), St. Paul's (677-548) and Coppin State (690-567).

The Golden Bears were fourth in total pinfall, knocking down 7,701 pins.  Delaware State was first with 8,105 pins, followed by FDU (7,961) and NJCU (7,756). 

KU was 11-5 in its 16 matches during the tournament and is now 56-22 on the season.

GOLDEN BEARS THIRD AFTER DAY 2 OF KU INVITATIONAL

READING, PA - Kutztown is in third place in the team standings, after going 5-1 in six traditional matches Saturday at the Golden Bear Invitational at Hiester Lanes.

Kutztown has knocked down 5,603 pins.  Delaware State has 5,924, ahead of second-place Fairleigh Dickinson at 5,844.  KU leads fourth-place New Jersey City (5,512).

Kutztown opened the day with four wins over Saint Peter's (884-783), Bowie State (922-598), Delaware State (972-899) and Morgan State (984-932).  KU then dropped a hard-fought 949-983 decision to Fairleigh Dickinson.  The Golden Bears bounced back with a win over Norfolk State (892-859).

Janaya Buck (fr. Northumberland/Shikellamy) led KU, averaging 194.3 pins in six matches.  She finished eighth.   Kayla Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) averaged 187.5 pins for 15th place. Stephanie Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson) (185.7, 17th), Jacquelyn Heimbach (sr. Easton/Easton) (184.2, 18th) and Kayla Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) (182.2, 21st) rounded out KU's results.

ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM: FDU's Sara Litteral was named individual MVP, averaging 212.83 pins in six matches.  Other members of the All-Tournament team were Maria Rodriguez (UMES), Jazmyne Hefflefinger (Del.St.), Dianna Molenko (Adelphi) Brooke Peterson (Del.St.) and Erica Perez (FDU).

KU 3-2 on day one of KU Invitational 

READING, Pa. – Kutztown University was 3-2 in matches on day one of the KU Invitational at Bowl-A-Rama Friday night.

 In Friday’s baker matches, Kutztown lost to Sacred Heart 767-666, defeated Bowie State 683-604, lost to Fairleigh Dickinson 709-698, and defeated New Jersey City 786-691 and Medaille 731-678. 

KU was third in total pinfall Friday night with 3,564, edging fourth-place Adelphi (3,548).  Sacred Heart was first at 3,744 and Fairleigh Dickinson was second at 3,656.   

Kutztown is hosting the 25-team tournament, the first NCAA women’s invitational in Pennsylvania, all weekend in Reading.  Action moves to Hiester Lanes on Saturday and Sunday.
