Day 2 Recap

BALTIMORE, M.D. The Kutztown University women's bowling team dropped three of five baker games Sunday to finish in fifth place at the Morgan State Collegiate Classic.

The Golden Bears (66-32) were fifth in the Division II bracket and 13th overall.

Sunday's action included three close losses, including two by a combined four pins. The other loss was by 40.

In the first match of the day, KU trailed by 67 pins after the first two games against No. 9 Farleigh Dickinson, but the attempted comeback came up just short as they lost 705-704. FDU got a strike in the last frame to get the victory.

The Golden Bears bounced back with a 693-439 win over Lincoln and a 672-557 win over North Carolina Central.

The fourth match saw KU drop another heartbreaker, this time to the hands of No. 6 New Jersey City by a score of 696-693. KU led by only five pins leading into the fourth set, however a 179-170 last game advantage gave NJC the victory.

The Golden Bears dropped their final match to No. 11 Sacred Heart to fall to 2-3 on the day and 5-5 over the weekend. KU led 232-209 after the first set, however Sacred Heart won each of the next three for a 748-708 win.

KU will return to action next weekend in the second Northeast Conference Meet of the season, held at St. Francis (N.Y.).
