GOLDEN BEARS PLACE 11TH AT MUSIC CITY TOURNAMENT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Kutztown University women's bowling team finished in 11th place of the field of 23-teams in the Music City Tournament at Vanderbilt University on Sunday.

The Golden Bears (92-50) entered Sunday's best-of-seven Baker games in 12th place, with the first two days used to determine their seeding on the final day. KU started off with a 4-0 win over Southern University.

Minnesota State-Mankato then defeated the Golden Bears 4-1. KU's lone win was an impressive 245-201 victory. The loss set up a rematch with Southern University for 11th and 12th place.

KU won the first two games 191-171 and 196-181 before losing 187-204 in the third game. The Golden Bears bounced back with a narrow 154-151 win and clinched 11th with a 185-169 win in the fifth game.

The Golden Bears will wrap up the 2008-2009 regular season with the Northeast Conference Championships at Farleigh Dickinson on Friday through Sunday.

KU IN 12TH AFTER TWO DAYS AT MUSIC CITY TOURNAMENT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Kutztown University women’s bowling team finished 3-3 in traditional games at the Music City Tournament at Vanderbilt Saturday.

KU is in 12th place heading into the final day of competition.

Steph Ray led the way with 1,122 pins, averaging 187 a game over six games.

KU won 854-844 over Southern, 818-739 over North Carolina A&T and 964-904 over Arkansas State — KU’s first win over Arkansas State.

The Golden Bears also suffered setbacks to Florida A&M (939-899), Nebraska (938-843) and Vanderbilt (945-845).

KU will have a chance to climb up to ninth when competition begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

KU IN 12TH ON FIRST DAY OF MUSIC CITY TOURNAMENT

Nashville, Tenn. The Kutztown University women's bowling team finished 3-3 in the baker games to place 12th on the first day of the Music City Tournament.

The first match of the day for the Golden Bears (87-46) was a loss to No. 20 Jackson State by a score of 713-636.

KU bounced back with a 666-625 win over Grand Canyon University and a 760-525 win over Winston Salem State. The Golden Bears fell behind No. 12 Minnesota State-Mankato by 49 points after the first two games, before rallying to a 685-653 win.

No. 10 Alabama A&M handed the Golden Bears their second loss of the day by a 744-689 score and in the final match No. 8 Central Missouri topped KU 701-689.

The tournament will continue on Saturday with six traditional team games starting at noon.
