STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Stephanie Ray (so. West Lawn/Wilson) led Kutztown to a 7-2 record at the St. Francis College New Year's Knockdown Saturday and Sunday in Staten Island, N.Y.

Ray totaled 1,493 pins to finish second in the individual standings (213.3 avg.). KU's Kayla Jones (fr. Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) was sixth with a score of 1,393 (199.0 avg.).  Kayla Stamm (so. Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) was eighth with 1,377 pinfall (196.7 avg.). She highlighted Saturday's matchups with a 257 against Long Island. It was the third-highest score ever for a KU kegler.

KU was 3-1 as a team Saturday. After losing its opening match 980-894 against the hosts from St. Francis, the No. 8 ranked Golden Bears defeated Long Island (1,021-679), Saint Peter's (840-777) and No.7 New Jersey City (1,084-1,035).  KU scored 931 pins in a solo round to end the day.

On Sunday, KU went 4-1, losing only to New Jersey City in a best of seven baker match. KU won games three through five, but New Jersey rallied to win the final two and finish first in the standings.

KU defeated Adelphi (977-951) and Hampton (1,000-927) in individual action. KU also beat Long Island (834-491) and St. Francis (931-770) in baker matches.

The Golden Bears will roll again at the Bowie State Invitational at 9 a.m. Jan. 24-25.
