Golden Bears place eighth after 5-0 finish in Jeanette Lee
Invitational
RICHMOND, VA (December 6, 2009) —
The Kutztown University women’s bowling team closed the
Jeanette Lee Invitational with a 5-0 record in the five-quad baker
matches.
Kutztown (31-18, 5-2), finished in
eighth place out of 20 teams with an overall tournament record of
9-2.
In today's baker matches, the
Golden Bears beat tournament host Saint Paul's College 774-598 with
a balanced attack. In match two and three, they were victorious
against Johnson C Smith 702-545, and Chowan University 686-545. In
match four, they won against North Carolina Central 738-559.
Kutztown closed out their performance in their fifth match, a
playoff match against Long Island University, winning 748-643.
"This weekend was good for us,"
head coach Joseph Ambrose said.
The Golden Bears used all of their
players today and earned 3,648. Kutztown, who went 4-2 yesterday,
finished with a tournament total of 9,416.
Northeast Conference (NEC) rival
Fairleigh Dickinson won the tournament. NEC associate member New
Jersey City placed second. NEC arch rivals Sacred Heart and Adelphi
University placed third and fourth respectively. University of
Central Missouri rounded out the top five teams.
Also placing in the top 10 was St.
Francis (N.Y.) in sixth, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater grabbing
seventh, KU in eighth, Elmhurst with a ninth place finish and
Fayetteville State finishing in 10th.
Kutztown is currently ranked ninth
in the nation according to the latest polls released by the National
Tenpins Coaches Association on December 3, 2009. Within the NEC,
Kutztown is tied for first place with a 5-2 record.
The Jeanette Lee Invitational was
the final tournament for the Golden Bears in the fall semester.
Kutztown will resume tournament play at the conclusion of winter
break, on January 16, 2010 when they travel to Staten Island for the
two-day Terrier's New Years' Knockdown Tournament hosted by St.
Francis University.
