STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (January 16, 2010) –The
Kutztown University women's bowling team completed its first day
of the two day Terrier's New Year's Knockdown tournament with a
1-4 finish.
Kutztown won their first match
894-796 against Hampton before losing their next three matches.
Kutztown was defeated by Adelphi 911-807, Norfolk State 936-913,
St. Peter's 997-902, and Fairleigh Dickinson 965-841.
Kutztown (33-22, 5-2) came into
the tournament from a six-week hiatus due to winter break.
"It was not a good day for KU,"
head coach Joe Ambrose said.
Individually, freshman
Jess Abrecht (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) held the
highest average of 190.5 in five games, followed by sophomore
Chelsea Adam (Reading/Exeter) with a 186.0 in five games
and freshman
Nicole Gatto (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) with a 185.6
in three games.
According to Ambrose, the team
needs to go back tomorrow and finish the tournament with a 5-0
record in the baker-matches. "This is something we (Kutztown)
are capable of doing," Ambrose said.
The team currently sits in sixth
place out of eight in the tournament. At the end of the first
half of the season, which ended December 6, 2009, Kutztown was
ranked ninth nationally, and tied for first place within the
Northeast Conference (NEC).
The Golden Bears resume the
Terrier's New Year's Knockdown tournament tomorrow,
Sunday, January 17 beginning at 1 p.m. Kutztown returns home on
January 29 to host a three-day KU Invitational tournament in
Reading, PA.
