Kutztown finishes fourth at Fright Night
ELMWOOD PARK, NJ
(November 1, 2009) –
The Kutztown University bowling team finished fourth overall during
the three-day Fright Night Invite hosted by Farleigh Dickinson
University Sunday afternoon. Kutztown junior Kayla Stamm was named
to the all-tournament team.
The Golden Bears (9-9
overall) defeated Long Island University, 875-737 in a traditional
team match. Kutztown lost both matches in its best-of-seven Baker
series. The Golden Bears lost to the University of Maryland-Eastern
Shore, 4-2 and Farliegh Dickinson, 4-0.
Kayla Jones paced
Kutztown with a 206 in the match against LIU. Chelsea Adam added a
194 and Nicole Gatto rolled a 179 for the Golden Bears. In the Baker
match against Maryland-Eastern Shore, the Golden Bears won the
second match (208-132) and fourth match (197-158). Kutztown dropped
the fifth game by two pins, 181-179.
The Golden Bears posted
a 5-8 record for the weekend against several top-ranked programs.
“While we know we let
some matches get away this weekend, as a team we grew a lot and with
100-110 matches to go in our season, we have plenty of time to
work and get where we want to be,” Kutztown head coach Joe Ambrose
said. “We battled all weekend after a 10th place beginning on Friday
to having a chance to win the event on Sunday, I think that says a
lot about who we are as a group.”
Stamm had a Baker frame
average of 22.3 in the anchor spot. Adam, who averaged 190.1 for
five team matches and was awesome in the leadoff position.
Kutztown hosts the first
Northeast Conference meet at the Bowl-a-Rama in Reading on Saturday
and Sunday November 14-15.
