KUTZTOWN, PA. (November 12, 2009) –
The Kutztown University women's bowling team will host its first
Northeast Conference match on Saturday and Sunday, November
14-15, 2009 at Bowl-a-Rama in Reading. This will be the first
NEC Conference Bowling Meet ever held in Pennsylvania.
In what
promises to be a high-powered tournament, six of the eight teams
in the NEC are nationally-ranked: No. 3 Fairleigh-Dickinson, No.
8 New Jersey City, No. 9 Sacred Heart, No. 10 Kutztown, No. 13
Adelphi, and No. 18 St. Francis. The only two schools not in the
national rankings are St. Peter’s & Long Island.
“I believe
the NEC is the best in the country,” Kutztown bowling coach Joe
Ambrose said. “It’s amazing to host this meet and we’re excited
to welcome this type of competition. The young ladies are pretty
pumped to host this meet.”
Teams will
compete round robin beginning at Noon on Saturday and 9 a.m. on
Sunday. Admission is free and this is one of three times that
the Golden Bears will be competing at home.
The NEC is
in their second season of bowling and Kutztown won the regular
season crown in 2008-09 with a 15-3 record. Fairleigh Dickinson
is the defending NEC conference tournament champions, defeating
Kutztown last season by a score of 4-0 in a best-of-seven baker
match.
Kutztown
(9-9 overall) has competed in two meets this season. They opened
the season by hosting the Kutztown Baker Invitational in which
it went 4-1. The following weekend, Kutztown participated in the
three-day Fright Night Invite hosted by FDU and finished fourth
overall.
