KUTZTOWN, PA. (December 3, 2009)
– The Kutztown
University bowling team is ranked ninth in the latest National
Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) monthly. It is the highest
preseason ranking in three-year history of the bowling program. The
Golden Bears moved up spot from its preseason ranking.
The Golden
Bears (22-16 overall) received 190 points. Kutztown finishes the
first half of its season this weekend when it participates in the
Jeanette Lee Invitational hosted by Saint Paul’s College.
In the
Northeast Conference, Kutztown is tied for first place, sharing a
5-2 conference record with St. Francis, N.Y. (18-7), Adelphi (23-15)
and New Jersey City (18-15).
“We moved
up a spot nationally, so we’re excited to be in the top 10,”
Kutztown coach Joe Ambrose said. “We need to be in the top eight at
the end of the season to make nationals, so we’re just about there,
and once we are, we are capable of holding our position.”
Leading the
Golden Bears are Kayla Jones (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop), Stephanie
Ray (West Lawn/Wilson), and Kayla Stamm (Mohnton/Governor Mifflin)
In their last outing at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES)
tournament two weeks ago, Jones averaged 194.8 in five games. She
knocked down 974 pins. Ray averaged 178.4 in five games with 892
knocked pins. Stamm averaged 160.5 in four performances.
