Kutztown has
strong opening day at UMES Invitational
MILLSBORO, DE (November 20, 2009) – The Kutztown University
bowling team enjoyed a productive day on the first day of the
University of Maryland-Eastern Shore tournament by winning four out
of five Baker-style matches Friday afternoon.
The Golden Bears defeated St. Peters, 808-798,
Arkansas State, 937-891, Morgan State, 880-858 and Southern,
878-861, to improve their season record to 18-12 overall. Kutztown
is in eighth place of the 20-team tournament with 4,376 pins after
the opening day of competition.
“We didn’t bowl our best today,” Kutztown bowling
coach Joe Ambrose said. “However, we put ourselves in a good
position to compete for the tournament title. We have to be in the
top four by the end of Saturday. I am confident that we can do that
but we need to make better shots and generate a higher spare
percentage.”
Kutztown will compete in traditional team matches on
Saturday against Sacred Heart, Farleigh Dickinson, Howard and New
Jersey City.
“To win four matches against this caliber of
competition was amazing,” Ambrose said. “I expect us to move up in
the team standings.”
