MILLSBORO, DE (November 21, 2009) –The
Kutztown University women's bowling team added two more wins to
its record at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore
tournament on Saturday, but lost three. Their current record in
the three-day tournament now stands at six wins, four losses.
The Golden Bears slipped one spot, into ninth place.
The Golden Bears defeated Sacred Heart 876-801 and
Howard University 943-683, but fell to Farleigh Dickinson (FDU)
917-884, and New Jersey City 650-835. Kutztown also lost to
Adelphi 736-648 in a baker-style match.
The Golden Bears (20-15), started
off Saturday's events with the win over Sacred Heart.
Nicole Gatto (Philadelphia/Archbishop Ryan) bowled a
match high of 203. Teammate
Kayla Jones (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) was one pin shy
of Gatto's high.
Stephanie Ray (West Lawn/Wilson) earned a 158.
Kayla Stamm (Mohnton/Governor Mifflin) and
Chelsea Adam (Reading/Exeter) both bowled a 152.
In the match two loss against
Farleigh Dickinson, Gatto again had the team's high, bowling a
196. Ray, Adam, Jones and Stamm all represented the Golden
Bears.
Jones dominated the Golden Bear's
third match, bowling a 245 against Howard University. Ray bowled
a 206.
Against New Jeresey City,
Heather Shoemaker (West Milton/Lewisburg) bowled a team
high 197. Stamm bowled a 180.
"We had a rough day on the lanes
today," Head Coach Joe Ambrose said. "However, we're
confident about our chances to end this tournament on a high
note and get a couple of wins on Sunday."
After two complete days Vanderbilt
is in first, FDU is second, UMES is third, no. 8 New Jersey City
is fourth, Arkansas State is fifth, Valparaiso is sixth,
Delaware State is seventh, No. 13 Adelphi is eighth, No. 10
Kutztown is ninth and Saint Francis (NY) is tenth.
