No. 3 Kutztown 3, East Stroudsburg 2
BOXSCORE
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— Anne Waapu (r-fr. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) helped the
Kutztown University field hockey team tie the game twice and scored
the game-winner in the Golden Bears’ 3-2 come-from-behind victory
over East Stroudsburg Saturday at University Field.
Waapu
scored twice off of corners, blasting shots from the top of the
circle past East Stroudsburg keeper Carolyn Kisling, and tallied an
assist.
KU (16-2, 10-2 PSAC),
ranked No. 3 in the nation, trailed 1-0 in the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference game at half, but Waapu fired a shot toward the
cage and Tristin Ludy (sr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) deflected it
in to tie the game at the 43:36 mark.
East Stroudsburg
(6-10, 3-9 PSAC) retook the lead five minutes later when Monica
Gombita pushed in a rebound for the 2-1 lead.
Five minutes later,
Waapu tied it at 2 off a corner, taking the pass from Alyssa
Maltese (so. Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown).
A nearly identical
play gave KU the 3-2 lead, as Maltese passed the ball to Waapu, who
settled the ball and blazed another shot in on Kisling.
East Stroudsburg
applied much of the pressure in the first half, totaling 10 corners
in the first 35 minutes. KU, however, outshot East Stroudsburg 21-8.
Waapu now has nine
goals on the season, and KU as a team, has scored 39 of its 63 goals
in the second half.
KU travels to
Mansfield for a 4 p.m. PSAC contest Wednesday before returning home
for the final game of the regular season, a 7 p.m. PSAC matchup
against No. 2 Bloomsburg Saturday at University Field.
