KUTZTOWN, Pa.
–
Indiana University of Pennsylvania scored two goals within 21
seconds in the first half to defeat Kutztown and retain its hold on
first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference field
hockey standings.
IUP,
ranked No. 1 in Division II, broke a scoreless tie at the 25:25 mark of
the first half, when Jess Frantz tipped in Kellen Yoder’s entry shot
from outside the circle. The Crimson Hawks scored an immediate
insurance goal 21 seconds later, when Wendy Strohl snuck a shot past
KU’s keeper, with the ball trickling over the goal line for the
score. Liz Marosky got the assist.
IUP
outshot KU 9-4. Goalkeeper Lydia Dolly had two saves for the Hawks,
while Sam Flowers stopped four shots for the Golden Bears,
ranked #3 in Division II. KU had seven penalty corners, to IUP’s
four.
The
Crimson Hawks improve to 13-2 overall, 10-1 in the PSAC. KU falls
to 14-2 and 8-2 in the league, dropping into a tie with Bloomsburg
for second place.
