KUTZTOWN, Pa. — Anne Waapu (so. Hastings, NEW ZEALAND) and Abbey Sheeler (so. Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) each had goals, but the No. 5-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team fell 6-2 to No. 3 Shippensburg University Tuesday at University Field.

Waapu’s goal in the 20th minute, off a pass from Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North), tied the game at 1-1, but Shippensburg (15-3) countered less than two minutes later in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover.

Shippensburg made it 3-1 early in the second half with Kristina Taylor’s third goal of the game.

KU (13-5) cut the lead to one with Sheeler’s unassisted tally in the 47th minute, but again, the Red Raiders bounced back, scoring less than 30 second later.

Shippensburg added to more goals in the final 20 minutes to make it 6-2.

The Golden Bears will return to University Field for a 7 p.m. non-league contest against Seton Hill on Saturday.
