Field Hockey loses first game of season 3-2 in OT

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — After defeating top-ranked Bloomsburg University last week, the Kutztown University field hockey team, ranked fifth in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) poll, lost, 3-2, in overtime to East Stroudsburg Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division contest.

ESU's Caitlin Brownley scored the game winner on a penalty corner. She also scored the first goal of the game before KU responded with two goals late in the second half by midfielder Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and forward Lauren Solley (Oley/Olley Valley) to give the Golden Bears a 2-1 advantage.  ESU midfielder Kiersten Denardo sent the game into overtime with a goal as time expired in the second half.

The Golden Bears, (5-1 overall, 1-1 PSAC East), finished with 17 shots. Protecting the KU cage, sophomore Emily Falko (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) had 15 saves for the day.

The Golden Bears come home to face Shippensburg University Tuesday night beginning at 7 pm. on University Field.
