KUTZTOWN, PA.
(October 29, 2009) --
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference has announced a new
semifinal pairing for the 2009 Field Hockey Championships set to
take place Friday, October 30 at Shippensburg University. Kutztown
University, which finished third in the Eastern Division standings,
will replace East Stroudsburg University, which finished in second
place.
The
announcement comes in the wake of a decision by East Stroudsburg to
withdraw its team due to allegations, currently under investigation
by the university, regarding team member participation in hazing
activities.
East
Stroudsburg was scheduled to play host Shippensburg on Friday at
2:30 p.m., the second of two semifinal contests at the
site. Kutztown will now replace East Stroudsburg, taking on
Shippensburg at the originally scheduled time.
The first
semifinal contest, pitting Bloomsburg University (No. 1 Eastern
Division) and Mercyhurst College (No. 2 Western Division) will
proceed as scheduled with a noon start. The winners of the two
semifinal games will play for the PSAC title Saturday at the same
location. That contest is slated to start at 1 p.m.
Kutztown lost
both meetings to Shippensburg this season, 2-1 at home on Sept. 15
and 2-0 on the road on Oct. 5.
