Kutztown falls to Mansfield

MANSFIELD, PA (September 30, 2009) – The Kutztown University field hockey team could not overcome a halftime deficit in its 7-2 defeat to host Mansfield University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Lauren Solley (Oley/Oley Valley) scored her team-leading 11^th goal of the season off of an assist from junior Kim Angstadt (Oley/Oley Valley) seven minutes into the game for a quick 1-0 advantage. Later in the game after Mansfield had built a comfortable advantage, freshman Emily Labowitz (Bala Cnywyd/Lower Merion) tallied her first career goal with 21 minutes remaining. Senior Carrie Healey (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) recorded the assist on Labowitz’s goal.

Junior Abbey Sheeler (Fleetwood/Brandywine Heights) led the Golden Bears with six shots and freshman Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) recorded five shots for Kutztown, which got nine saves from sophomore keeper Emily Falko (Catasauqua/Catasauqua).

Kutztown (7-4 overall) trailed, 4-1, at intermission.

Kutztown returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Bloomsburg University at University Field (7 p.m.).
