KU drops 2009 season opener to Georgian Court

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s lacrosse team lost their 2009 season opener to Georgian Court 18-10 at University Field on Thursday afternoon.

Brooke Koniow (fr. Phoenixville/Phoenixville) led the Golden Bears (0-1) with five goals, one of which cut the Lions (1-0) first half lead to 8-4 with 6:57 left in the first half.

The Lions offense proved to strong, as they pulled away with Allison Abbate leading the way scoring five goals.  Cara Sanford and Natalie Bermudez each scored two goals.

Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) added two goals for the Golden Bears, while Carrie Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) had a goal and two assists. Jennifer Natalini (jr. Pottstown/Pottsgrove) and Janice Kinney (jr. Spring City/Owen J. Roberts) each netted a goal for KU.

The Golden Bears will return to action on Tuesday, March 10, at East Stroudsburg to start the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division contests.
