BOXSCORE
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— Six goals over a 15-minute span in the first half put the Kutztown
University women's lacrosse team in a six-goal hole and Slippery
Rock University held on to win 14-9 Saturday at Keystone Field.
Leeann Pica (fr. Levittown/Neshaminy) and
Carrie
Healey (jr. Toms River, N.J./Toms River North) each netted
hat tricks in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover,
but it wasn't enough to overcome the first-half offensive output by
Slippery Rock (2-4).
KU (1-4) kept the game close as both
teams scored two goals in the first three minutes. The Golden Bears
cut it to 4-3 on a goal from Pica with 20:54 remaining in the half,
but Slippery Rock scored six of the next seven goals to make it 10-4
with 4:49 left.
Amanda Steczak (sr. Coatesville/Coatesville), who finished
with two goals, scored with 1:48 left in the half to cut it to 10-5.
KU made a run early in the half with
unassisted goals from Pica and
Rachel Mehaffey (fr. West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford)
in the first minute. Both goals were separated by 17 seconds.
Slippery Rock, however, scored four of
the next five goals to make it 14-8. Casey Quinn tallied two of her
game-high five goals during the run. Samantha Eddy and Claire Conrad
also netted hat tricks for Slippery Rock.
KU will host Millersville in a PSAC East
contest at Keystone Field at 4 p.m. Monday.
