Game Recaps

Game 1 - East Stroudsburg 4, Shippensburg 0

BOX SCORE

KUTZTOWN, PA - Jess Schmoyer was 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead East Stroudsburg to a 4-0 win over Shippensburg in game one of the 2007 NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Softball Regional at Kutztown University's North Campus Field.

Schmoyer, playing in her hometown of Kutztown, belted a two-run home run to give ESU a 2-0 lead in the first inning.  It was Schmoyer's first round tripper of the season.

ESU extended its lead to 4-0 in the second on an RBI single by Schmoyer, who then scored on a double by Candice Pastor.

Eliza Morosco was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Alianna Hale was 2-for-4.  Kristen Halvorsen (13-5) pitched a four-hit shutout.  She struck out seven.

The Warriors advance to Friday's game seven at 2:00 PM against the winner of the Lock Haven/Bowie State game.

Lori Knopf (9-7) took the loss for Ship. Lisamarie Ramagli was 2-for-3.  Muhlenberg High School graduate Nicole Henninger was 0-for-3. 

Shippensburg falls to the loser's bracket, where they will face the loser of the Lock Haven/Bowie State game 9:00 AM Friday.

Game 2 - Lock Haven 8, Bowie St. 0 (5 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Lock Haven's Kristin Erb (33-2) threw a perfect game in an 8-0, five-inning win over Bowie State in game two of the Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

Erb struck out eight of the 15 batters she faced.

Amanda Roosa was 4-for-4 with double and four RBI for the Lady Eagles.  Ilia Lopez was 1-for-2 with a three-run home run and Julia Popovich went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Jillian Willey (12-5) pitched the complete game for Bowie State and struck out seven.

Lock Haven will face East Stroudsburg at 2:00 PM Friday afternoon.  Bowie falls to the loser's bracket and will face Shippensburg at 9:00 AM Friday.

Game 3 - Bloomsburg 12, N.C. Central 0 (5 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Bloomsburg's Ashley Lynn (21-5) pitched a five-inning perfect game to lead the Huskies to a 12-0 win over North Carolina Central in game three of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Softball Regional Thursday afternoon.

Lynn's perfect game was the second straight of the tournament after LHU's Kristin Erb matched Lynn's effort against Bowie State.  It is Lynn's third no-hitter this season and the third perfect game in Bloomsburg's NCAA championship play history.

Lynn also led the Huskies at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three RBI.  Tara Reed was 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Tiff Corliss scored twice and Casey Massimini drove in a pair for BU (36-13), which advances to Friday's game vs. the winner of the Kutztown/Edinboro game at 4:30 PM.

Stacey Greene (17-8) took the loss for the Lady Eagles  (31-12).  She pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 10 runs.  NCCU falls to the loser's bracket, where it will face the loser of the Kutztown/Edinboro game on Friday at 11:30 AM.

Game 4 - Edinboro 2, Kutztown 0

KUTZTOWN, PA - Dana Webb hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to lead Edinboro University to a 2-0 upset victory over Kutztown in game four of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Softball Regional Thursday afternoon.

The game was a pitchers' duel between Edinboro's Vanessa Rose and Kutztown's Kaitlin ArbogastArbogast took a perfect game into the seventh inning, before Rose broke it up with a one-out single up the middle.  The next batter, Webb, blasted her fourth homer of the season over the left-centerfield fence for the only runs of the game. 

Kutztown left eight runners on base in the game, including five in the final three innings.  KU threatened in the seventh, when pinch hitter Caitlin Hague singled and Adriane Willmer reached on a two-out , two-base error by Edinboro.  Hague advanced to third on the play.  Rose buckled down and struck out Maria Schiavo to close the door.

The Golden Bears left two runners on in the fifth.  A leadoff walk by Lindsay Bennett and an infield single by Dani Spalik was followed by a sacrifice bunt to move the runners.  Rose, though wiggled out of the jam by inducing groundouts to the next two batters. 

Rose finished with a five-hit shutout, striking out nine batters. 

KU's Steph Denlinger was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.  Arbogast finished with 13 strikeouts, matching her season high. She walked one.

Edinboro (20-20) advances to Friday's game eight vs. Bloomsburg at 4:30 PM.  Kutztown (42-17) will face NC Central on Friday at 11:30 AM.  The loser of that game is eliminated.

Game 5 - Shippensburg 10, Bowie 2 (5 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Chelsea Carson hit a base-clearing double in the midst of an eight-run first inning en route to a 10-2, five-inning Shippensburg win over Bowie State in the fifth game of the Mid-Atlantic Regionals Friday morning.

Bowie got on the board first with a run in the top of the first, however Shippensburg responded by sending 13 batter to the plate in the bottom of the inning.

Carson finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored.  Amanda Bardo was 2-for-2 and Liz Good had two RBI. Muhlenberg high school product Nicole Henninger was 0-for-3 for the Lady Raiders.

For Bowie, Tiffany Toney was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and scored two runs.  Tricia Corbin was 2-for-3.

Jill Kirby (3-5) pitched the complete game for the Lady Raider.  Heather Enders started the game for the Lady Bulldogs, but was knocked out after pitching just 2/3 of an inning.  Jillian Willey pitched the remainder of the game in relief.

Shippensburg (30-23) will play the loser of the Bloomsburg / Edinboro game on Saturday at 11:30 AM.  Bowie (27-9) is eliminated from play.

Game 6 - Kutztown 21, NC Central 0 (5 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Rachel Weidensaul pitched a four-hit shut-out and Kutztown rapped out 19 hits to defeat NC Central, 21-0 in five-innings, in game six of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Softball Regional at North Campus Field Friday afternoon.

Kutztown's 21 runs were its most scored in a single game since defeating Albright 22-0 in 1988.  The Golden Bears upped their season runs total to 406, and RBI's to 373, both new PSAC single-season records.

Steph Denlinger hit her 24th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the fourth.  She finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.  She now has 68 runs scored this season, a new PSAC record.

Adriane Willmer was 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.  Caitlin Hague hit a base-clearing double in the third to finish 2-for-3.  She also scored two runs.  Kathy Gregg was 2-for-3 with three RBI.  Krista Cameron was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.  Maria Schiavo went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Sophia Blue was 2-for-3 for the Lady Eagles.

The Golden Bears scored six runs in the second inning highlighted with a two-run single by Gregg.  Kutztown added eight runs in the third and five in the fourth.

Weidensaul (15-7) struck out five in the complete game win.  NCCU's Michelle Ishida (2-4) went 3.1 innings, allowing all 21 runs, 14 earned.

KU (43-17) will face the loser of the East Stroudsburg / Lock Haven game on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.  NC Central (31-13) is eliminated.

Game 7 - Lock Haven 5, East Stroudsburg

KUTZTOWN, PA - Exeter High School grad Kristin Erb pitched a five-hit shutout as Lock Haven defeated East Stroudsburg, 5-0, Friday afternoon in game seven of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional.

Devin Glezen hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning to give LHU a 3-0 lead.  Wilson (West Lawn) grad Erica Eisenbise hit a long ball of her own in the sixth.

Glezen finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Amanda Roosa, Eisenbise and Nancy O'Connor each had an RBI.

For the Warriors, Kara Darcey was 2-for-3.  Kutztown High grad Jes Schmoyer was 1-for-2.  Dieruff product Amanda Feist and Whitehall grad Alianna Hale were both 0-for-3

Erb (34-2) struck out six in the complete game win.

Kristen Halvorson (13-16) went the distance for ESU.

Lock Haven (47-3) will face the winner of the Bloomsburg / Edinboro game at 2:00 PM Saturday.  East Stroudsburg (27-27) drops into the losers' bracket and will face Kutztown at 9:00 AM on Saturday.

Game 8 - Bloomsburg 1, Edinboro 0 (8 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Tara Reed hit an RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to give Bloomsburg the 1-0 win over Edinboro Friday afternoon in game eight of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals.

It was a pitchers' duel as Bloomsburg had five hits and Edinboro managed four, and the game was scoreless into the extra inning.

Ashley Lynn (22-5) pitched the complete game for the win.  She struck out six.  Vanessa Rose (14-15) went the distance for Edinboro.  She struck out eight.

For the Huskies, Reed finished 2-for-4 with the lone RBI of the game.  Parkland graduate Missy Bachert was 1-for-3.

Nikki Shiko led off the eighth with a single.  Two batters later, Reed doubled to left center and Shiko scored from first on the play for the game's only run.

Edinboro got a runner on in the bottom of the eighth when Katelyn Gurgliolo singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by Lynn with one out.  Lynn redeemed herself, striking out Rose and forcing a groundout by Dana Webb to close the door.

Gurgiolo was 2-for-4 for the Fighting Scots.

Bloomsburg (37-13) will face Lock Haven at 2:00 PM Saturday afternoon in the winners' bracket.  Edinboro falls to the losers' bracket and will play Shippensburg at 11:30 AM.

Game 9 - East Stroudsburg 11, Kutztown 10

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kutztown High School grad Jess Schmoyer's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning capped a wild 11-10 win for her East Stroudsburg Warriors over Kutztown in game nine of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional.

The game featured seven lead changes, including four in the final two innings.

Kutztown took a 10-9 lead on Adriane Willmer's two-out home run in the top of the seventh.  ESU tied it in the bottom of the seventh on a run-scoring double by Missy McAloon.  After an intentional walk to leadoff hitter Jen Veronesi, Schmorer singled up the middle, driving McAloon home for the winning run.

Schmoyer finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.  McAloon was 2-for-4 with two runs.  Shannon Dietrich was 4-for-4 with two RBI.  Veronesi was 2-for-2 with three runs. Candice Pastor was 2-for-4 with three RBI.  Kara Darcey was 2-for-3.

For Kutztown, Krista Cameron was 2-for-3 with three RBI.  Willmer was 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.  Kim Morrison was 3-for-5 with two runs and Steph Denlinger was 2-for-3 with two runs.

The teams traded four-run innings early.  ESU took a 5-1 lead in the second, including a two-run single by Schmoyer.

KU tied in the top of the third on a two-run double by Cameron. 

Both squads scored a run in the fourth inning, before KU took an 8-6 lead in the sixth on a two-run homer by Ashley Fitzgerald.  In the botttom of the sixth, Pastor ripped a bases-loaded double to give the Warriors a 9-8 lead heading into the seventh.

Kutztown, playing without PSAC East Pitcher of the Year Kaitlin Arbogast due to illness, used three pitchers in the game.  Rachel Weidensaul started and went 1.2 innings.  Christie McIntyre pitched 1.1 innings.  Denlinger (1-1) went the final 3.1 innings, taking the loss.

ESU used three pitchers as well.  Starter Crissy Wontroba went 3.2 innings.  Jennifer Bensinger came on in relief for 2.1 innings.  Kristen Halvorsen (14-16) pitched the seventh to pick up the win.

East Stroudsburg (28-27) advances to face the winner of Game 10 between Shippensburg and Edinboro at 4:30 Saturday. 

Kutztown was eliminated with the loss, bringing an end to the Golden Bears' record-breaking season. KU set school records for wins (43-18), while also re-writing the KU and PSAC single-season record book in multiple offensive categories. 

KU established PSAC single-season records for runs scored (416), extra base hits (203), RBI (381), and doubles (131).  The Bears also set program records for slugging percentage (.548), games played (61), at bats (1720), hits (601), home runs (67), total bases (943), walks (175), times hit by pitch (26), sacrifice flies (20) and sacrifice hits (85).  KU also set pitching records for complete games (45), innings pitched (408) and strikeouts (383).

KU players set PSAC records for runs scored (Denlinger, 70), at bats (Willmer, 234), RBI (Denlinger, 73), home runs (Denlinger, 24), slugging percentage (Denlinger, 1.111), walks (Denlinger, 51) and sacrifice hits (Maria Schiavo, 27).  In addition, new KU season records were established in hits (Willmer, 97), doubles (Fitzgerald and Cameron, 20), batting average (Denlinger, .504), sacrifice flies (Bennett, 7), total bases (Denlinger, 160), on-base percentage (Denlinger, .625).  Kaitlin Arbogast set single-season pitching records for games (40, tied), wins (27), complete games (29), innings pitched (249.1) and strikeouts (287).

Game 10 - Edinboro 2, Shippensburg 1

KUTZTOWN, PA - Vanessa Rose struck out 12 batters and drove in a run at the plate to lead Edinboro to a 2-1 win over Shippensburg in game 10 of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional at Kutztown University.

Rose (15-15) allowed five hits and one run.  She was 1-for-3 at the plate, driving in the game's first run on a single in the top of the sixth inning.

Leanne Carmichael, who was 2-for-3, homered with two outs in the top of the seventh to give the Fighting Scots a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Raiders railled in the bottom of the seventh.  Nicole Henninger (Muhlenberg HS) hit a leadoff double, then scored on a single by Lisamarie Ramagli.  After a sacrifice bunt moved pinch runner Becky Brensinger to second, Rose struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Shippensburg hurler Dani Shields (15-8) struck out seven, allowing five hits in the complete-game loss.  She was perfect through 4.2 innings, before allowing a single by Carmichael.

Edinboro (21-21) advances to face East Stroudsburg in Saturday's final game at 4:30 PM.

Shippensburg (30-24) is eliminated with the loss.

Game 11 - Lock Haven 1, Bloomsburg 0 (10 innings)

KUTZTOWN, PA - Ilia Lopez hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Lock Haven a 1-0 win over Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon in game 11 of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional.

The game was a pitchers' duel between Lock Haven's Kristin Erb and Bloomsburg's Ashley Lynn.   Erb scattered eight hits, while Lynn allowed 10.  .

Both pitchers wiggled their way out of jams in the extra innings before LHU finally broke the deadlock in the 10th.

Lock Haven loaded the bases with one out in the eighth inning.  Lynn struck out Lopez for the second out and then got Sarah Norris to fly out to center.

Bloomsburg got runners on second and third with one out in the 10th when Kayleen Sidisky grounded to the pitcher, holding the runners.  Jess Rosin walked to load the bases.  Erb then struck out Missy Bachert to end the inning.

In the Lock Haven part of the 10th, Erb and Devin Glezen hit back-to-back singles.  With two outs, Lopez singled up the middle.  Erb rounded from second and collided with BU catcher Tiff Corliss as the ball reached the plate and Corliss couldn't hold on.  Erb touched home plate for the winning run.

Erb (35-2) struck out 11 in 10 innings.  Lynn (22-6) pitched 9.2 innings and struck out 11.

For the Lady Eagles, Erb went 3-for-4.  Glezen and Lopez were both 2-for-5.

Tara Reed was 3-for-5 for the Huskies.  Alyssa English went 2-for-4.   Parkland graduate Missy Bachert was 0-for-3.

Lock Haven (48-3) advances to the championship game on Sunday at 2:30.  Bloomsburg (37-14) will play the winner of the Edinboro / East Stroudsburg game at noon on Saturday.

Game 12 - East Stroudsburg 4, Edinboro 2

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kutztown High School graduate Jess Schmoyer was 2-for 3 with three RBI to lead East Stroudsburg to a 4-2 win over Edinboro in game 12 of the Mid-Atlantic Regionals at Kutztown University.

The game was halted Saturday night due to darkness, then resumed Sunday morning.

Schmoyer broke a 1-1 tie in the second with a two-run double.  The game was then halted in the fourth inning.  When play resumed on Sunday, ESU extended its lead to 4-1 on Schmoyer's home run to center field.

Edinboro's two runs came on solo home runs by Dana Webb in the first and Ashleigh Smith in  seventh. 

For the Fighting Scots, Vanessa Rose and Webb both finished 2-for-4.  Alicia Gordon was 2-for-3.

Kristen Halvorsen (15-16) pitched a complete game and struck out five in the win.

Rose (15-16) pitched six innings for Edinboro and struck out eight batters.

East Stroudsburg (29-27) will face Bloomsburg this afternoon starting at noon.  Edinboro (21-22) is eliminated.

Game 13 - Bloomsburg 2, East Stroudsburg 1

KUTZTOWN, PA - Alyssa English was 1-for-3 with two RBI to lead Bloomsburg a 2-1 win over East Stroudsburg in game 13 of the NCAA Division II Softball Mid-Atlantic Regional at Kutztown University on Sunday.

English knocked in the first Bloomsburg run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly to center.  She then hit an RBI single in the third inning for a 2-1 lead.

East Stroudsburg scored its only run in the first inning when Jen Veronesi scored on an Eliza Morosco single.

Sheelin Fisher (11-3) pitched 5.2 innings of relief for the win.  She struck out seven and gave up only one hit.  Ashley Lynn started the game, going 1.1 innings.

Kristen Halvorsen (15-17) went the distance for ESU and struck out five.

Bloomsburg (38-14) advances to the championship game against Lock Haven at 2:30 this afternoon.  East Stroudsburg (29-28) is eliminated.

Game 14 - Lock Haven 7, Bloomsburg 0

KUTZTOWN, PA - Kristin Erb pitched a two-hit shut out as Lock Haven defeated Bloomsburg in the championship game of the 2007 NCAA Division II Softball Mid-Atlantic Regional at Kutztown University Sunday afternoon.

Erb (36-2) struck out 10 over seven innings.

Lock Haven (49-3), the defending NCAA Division II Champion, wins its second-straight Mid-Atlantic Regional crown and will advance to the NCAA Softball Championships, May 17-21 at Firestone Stadium in Akron, OH.

Lock Haven got on the board in the second inning on RBI hits by Sarah Norris and Nancy O'Connor.  The Lady Eagles put two more on the board in the sixth inning.  Norris drove in a run on a groundout and Brittany Pavelski scored on an error.

In the top of the seventh, Amanda Roosa hit a two-run home run to left field.  LHU added another run to seal the victory, 7-0, and claim the championship.

Julia Popovich, Devin Glezen, Ilia Lopez and Roosa each had two hits in the game.  Roosa and Norris each had two RBI.

For Bloomsburg, Tara Reed and Jess Snader each had a hit.

Ashley Lynn (14-17) pitched the first two innings, striking out three and giving up two runs.  Sheelin Fisher pitched the remaining five innings.  She struck out eight.

Bloomsburg ends it season with a 38-15 record.
