Game 1 - Bloomsburg

BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Stacy Krupiewski was
3-for-3 with two RBI to lead Bloomsburg to a 5-0 win over
California (PA) in the opening game of the 2007 Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference Softball Championship at Kutztown University.
Ashley Lynn (19-3) scattered four hits
over seven innings, striking out nine to pick up the win for
Bloomsburg, which advances to game three against West #1 Lock Haven
at 2:30 PM.
The Huskies batted around and scored
four runs in the second inning. Kayleen Sidiskey hit a two-run
single to score Casey Massimini and Alyssa English. After a
Vulcan error extended Bloomsburg's rally, Krupiewski drove in two
more runs for a 4-0 lead.
Bloomsburg added another run in the
sixth on an RBI double by Jess Rosin.
Nikki Shiko scored two runs for
Bloomsburg (33-11)
Kayleigh Braim was 2-for-3 for
California (14-16). Meghan Johnson (7-5) took the loss,
striking out four.
The Vulcans drop to the losers bracket,
where they will face the loser of game two (Edinboro/East
Stroudsburg)
Game 2 - East
Stroudsburg 1, Edinboro 0 (8 innings)
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Alianna Hale's RBI single
in the eighth inning gave East Stroudsburg a 1-0 win over Edinboro
in game two of the PSAC Softball Championship at Kutztown
University.
Candice Pastor doubled to start the
eighth. Pinch runner Laura Snyder advanced on Shannon
Dietrich's sacrifice. Hale then laced a single to the wall in
left field to drive in Snyder for the winning run.
Kristen Halverson won the pitcher's dual
against Edinboro's Vanessa Rose. Halversen (11-14) struck out
five over eight shutout innings. Rose (13-13) had eight
strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
Jen Veronesi was 3-for-4, Pastor was
2-for-4 and Eliza Morosco was 2-for-3 for the Warriors, who advance
to face Kutztown at 4:30 PM Thursday.
Danielle Arno was 2-for-3, Jessica
Lindamood and Alicia Gorden were 2-for-4 for Edinboro, which will
face California in Friday's game five at 10AM.
Game 3 - Lock Haven
1, Bloomsburg 0 (9 innings)
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Ilia Lopez scored on a
two-out error in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Lock Haven a
1-0 win over Bloomsburg in game three of the PSAC Championship at
Kutztown University.
It was the second-straight 1-0
extra-inning decision after East Stroudsburg defeated Edinboro 1-0
in eight innings earlier.
Kristin Erb, in the Exeter HS grad's
first collegiate appearance in Berks County, struck out eight over
nine innings. Bloomsburg pitcher Ashley Lynn struck out 11
over 8.2 innings. There were seven hits in the game, four by
Bloomsburg and three by Lock Haven
Lopez walked and stole second with one
out in the ninth. She advanced to third on a flyout.
Erica Eisenbise hit a grounder, but the Huskie short stop misplayed
the ball, allowing Lopez to score the game winner.
Julia Popovich was 2-for-4 for LHU.
Lock Haven advances to face the winner
of Thursday's final game between Kutztown and East Stroudsburg at
2:30 Friday. Bloomsburg plays the loser of that game at noon
Friday.
Game 4 - Kutztown
6, East Stroudsburg 1
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Ashley Fitzgerald was
3-for-4 with two RBI to lead Kutztown to a 6-1 won over East
Stroudsburg in game three of the PSAC Championship at Kutztown
University.
Fitzgerald knocked
in her first run in the afternoon in the first inning.
Adriane Willmer started with a single before being
knocked in by Fitzgerald.
The third inning started the same.
Willmer singled, and was bunted to second by Maria Schiavo.
Kim Morrison was hit by a pitch and Steph
Denlinger walked. Fitzgerald singled to knock in
her second run. Krista Cameron hit a two-run
single for KU to take a 4-0 lead.
The Golden Bears added a run in the
fourth and Cameron hit a solo home run in the fifth.
East Stroudsburg scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh.
Kaitlin Arbogast (26-7)
pitched a four-hit complete game for the win. Crissy Wontroba
(13-9) started the game for ESU, going five innings in the loss.
Jennifer Bensinger pitched the remaining two innings.
Cameron was 2-for-4 with three
RBI. Willmer went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
For ESU, Jen Veronesi had a hit and
knocked in the Warriors' only run.
Kutztown will face Lock Haven tomorrow
at 2:30 PM. East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg will take the
field at noon. California and Edinboro will start the day with
a 10am game.
Game 5 -
California 3, Edinboro 1
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Amanda Collins hit a
two-run double in the fourth inning to give California lead and the
eventual 3-1 win.
Danielle Arno hit a solo home run in the
top of the fourth to give the Fighting Scots a 1-0 lead.
California struck in the bottom on the
fourth. Deanna Valentino started the inning with a single up
the middle. Heather Bihler doubled to left center to knock in
the first run. Collins followed with a two-run double.
Meghan Johnson (8-5) pitched 4.1 innings
for California for the win. Katie Francart came in for the
final 2.2 innings for her second save on the season. Vanessa
Rose (13-14) went the distance for Edinboro in the loss.
Valentino was 2-for-3 for the Vulcans.
Alicia Gordon was 2-for-3 for the
Fighting Scots.
California will face the winner of the
Bloomsburg / East Stroudsburg game at 4:30. Edinboro has been
eliminated.
Game 6 -
Bloomsburg 3, East Stroudsburg 2
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Casey Massimino beat a
throw home on a grounder to short and scored the winning run in the
bottom of the seventh inning as Bloomsburg defeated East Stroudsburg
3-2 in game six of the PSAC softball championship.
Kayleen Sidisky hit a one out
double to start the winning rally. Jen Miller singled to
advance pinch runner Massimino to third. Tara Reed then
grounded to ESU short stop Jen Veronisi, whose throw home was
knocked away as Massimino slid into the catcher. She touched
home to record the run.
Miller finished 2-for-3, the only player
with more than one hit.
BU took a 2-0 lead in the second on RBI
hits by Alyssa English and Miller.
ESU got on the board with an RBI single
by Alianna Hale in the fourth, then knotted the score on a
run-scoring double by Jess Schmoyer in the fifth.
Ashley Lynn was the winning pitcher.
She tossed 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to improve to 20-4.
The Huskies (34-12) advance to Friday's game eight against
California (PA).
Kristen Halvorsen was the loser, falling
to 12-15 on the year. ESU (26-26) is eliminated from the
tournament.
Game 7 -
Kutztown 3, Lock Haven 0
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Kaitlin Arbogast
pitched a two-hitter and Kutztown University scratched across three
unearned runs to defeat #2 Lock Haven, 3-0, in game seven of the
PSAC Softball Championship Friday.
The Golden Bears (42-14), ranked #15 in
the nation, advance to Saturday's championship game at 1:00 PM.
KU, the sole undefeated team remaining in the tournament, needs to
win just once to claim its first-ever PSAC softball title. A
loss in the 1:00 PM game would force a decisive game at 3:00 PM.
Lock Haven (42-3) will face the
winner of Friday's final game between Bloomsburg and California (PA)
at 11:00 AM. The winner of that game advances to face KU.
Arbogast struck out nine batters
to pick up her 27th victory. She has now won her last 21
decisions as KU has won 23 of their last 24.
LHU pitcher Kristen Erb (29-2) suffered
the loss, despite not allowing an earned run. The three runs
allowed matched a career high vs. Erb.
Kutztown got on the board in the second
inning. Steph Denlinger walked, advanced to second on a
sacrifice and went to third on a passed ball. Krista
Cameron trickled a grounder to short to plate Denlinger.
In the sixth, Maria Schiavo
reached on a fielding error. Kim Morrison singled to
move her to second, and Denlinger roped a single to left
center to score Schiavo.
KU extended the lead in the seventh.
Cameron reached on an error to leadoff. Lindsay
Bennett hit an infield single. After the runners advanced
on a wild pitch, Kathy Gregg laid down a squeeze bunt to
drive in Cameron.
Arbogast then pitched a perfect
bottom of the seventh. She retired her last eight batters, and
13 of the final 15 she faced.
Adriane Willmer, Morrison,
Denlinger, Cameron and Bennett had KU's five
hits. Julia Popovich, who was 2-for-3, was the only Lady Eagle
to get a hit.
Game 8 -
Bloomsburg 3, California (PA) 0
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Tara Reed pitched a
six-hit shutout to lead Bloomsburg to a 3-0 win over California (PA)
in game eight of the PSAC Softball Championship at Kutztown
University.
Bloomsburg survives to advance to
Saturday's game nine (11AM) against Lock Haven in the
double-elimination tournament. The winner faces undefeated
Kutztown at 1PM.
California (PA) is eliminated, finishing
with a season record of 15-17.
Reed struck out six and allowed three
walks over seven innings for the Huskies (35-13).
Bloomsburg got on the board in the third
inning when Nikki Shiko doubled and scored on a single by Jess
Rosin. Bloom added two in the fifth on a two-out, two run
error by Cal's second baseman.
The Lady Vulcans stranded 10 runners in
the game, including a bases-loaded situation in the second.
Kayleigh Braim was thrown out at home to end the fifth inning, after
a Julie MacKenzie single, to end another Vulcan scoring threat.
Shiko finished 2-for-3 for BU, while
Amanda Collins was 2-for-3 and Braim 2-for-4 to lead Cal.
Game 9 - Lock
Haven 3, Bloomsburg 1
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Kristen Erb pitched a
five-hit complete game as Lock Haven defeated Bloomsburg 3-1 to
advance to the championship game against Kutztown.
Erb struck out four and got out of two
late jams to keep the Lady Eagles alive.
Lock Haven was led at the plate by
Amanda Roosa, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
LHU took the lead in the first when
Roosa belted an RBI double to plate Erb, who had singled.
The Lady Eagles added a run in the
fourth on an RBI single by Erica Eisenbise. LHU then made it
3-0 on an RBI single by Ilia Lopez in the fifth.
The Huskies loaded the bases in the
fifth, but came up empty. Bloomsburg got on the board in the
top of the sixth. Tiff Corliss laced a one-out single up the
middle to drive in Casey Massimini, but Alyssa English was thrown
out attempting to advance from first to third on the play. Erb
got a groundout to end the threat.
The Huskies then went down in order in
the seventh.
Tara Reed was 2-for-4 for Bloomsburg,
which exits the tournament with a season record of 35-13.
Game 10 - Lock
Haven 7, Kutztown 5 (15 innings)
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Kristen Erb hit a two-run
home run in the bottom of the 15th inning to give Lock Haven the 7-5 win
over Kutztown and force a deciding championship game.
The game winning homer capped an
incredible game between the two teams, as Lock Haven needed the win
to force a decisive game 11. The teams were scoreless through seven
extra innings, what is normally a regulation game, before Erb sent
the two-out pitch from Kaitlin Arbogast over the left field fence.
Kutztown led 5-2 heading into the bottom
of the seventh inning, and Arbogast got the first two outs before
Julia Popovich singled. Erb followed with a single, and a walk
by Devin Glezen loaded the bases.
Amanda Roosa blooped a single to left
field, where Maria Schiavo dove and almost made the catch, but
couldn't come up with it. Roosa and pinch runner Brittany
Pavelsky scored. The Lady Eagles tied it on a single through
the left side by Ilia Lopez.
Kutztown's best chance to score in extra
innings came in the 11th. Kathy Gregg singled to start the
inning and Willmer beat out an infield single. After a
sacrifice, Erb got the next two batters to ground out. KU had
just one base runner after that.
Erb, who was 4-for-7 at the plate,
pitched 15 innings, allowing 15 hits and a career-high five earned
runs. She struck out eight. Her opponent, Arbogast, went
14.2 innings, allowing 17 hits and seven runs. She struck out
11. Arbogast's streak of 21 straight decisions without a loss
was snapped. She falls to 27-8.
Roosa was 3-for-7 with four RBI.
Steph Denlinger was 3-for-7 with an RBI,
her PSAC single-season record 69th of the season. Kathy Gregg
was 4-for-6.
Game 11 - Lock
Haven 5, Kutztown 2
BOX SCORE
KUTZTOWN, PA - Lock Haven University
defeated Kutztown 5-2 to win its second straight PSAC Softball
Championship behind workhorse pitcher and tournament MVP Kristen Erb.
Erb, who pitched 22 innings over two
games earlier in the day, struck out five in the complete-game
four-hitter. She did not allow a run until the seventh inning
- her 29th and final inning of the day. She was also 1-for-4
at the plate, driving in two runs.
Julia Popovich was 2-for-4 with an RBI
and Erica Eisenbise and Krystin Montoro were 2-for-3 with an RBI
each.
LHU broke a scoreless tie in the bottom
of the fourth on an RBI single by Eisenbise. Erb knocked in
two on a single in the fifth. KU stretched its lead to 5-0 on
RBI singles by Montoro and Popovich in the sixth.
KU scored its runs in the seventh on a
two-run home run by Krista Cameron, her 16th of the season.
Lock Haven improves to 45-3. It is
LHU's second-straight PSAC championship, and the third in school
history (1982).
Rachel Weidensaul (14-7) took the loss.
She struck out three over six innings.
Kutztown falls to 42-16. The
Golden Bears finish second in the PSAC Championship for the fourth
time, the first since 1996. KU has never won the conference
tournament.
KU will serve as host of the NCAA
Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional, May 10-14. Lock Haven
claims the PSAC's automatic berth into the NCAA Regional tournament.
