KU sweeps IUP to
open PSAC crossover action

KUTZTOWN
—
The Kutztown University softball team (23-5) opened up its home
schedule against IUP today at North Campus Field, defeating the
Crimson Hawks (4-13) 3-0 in game one and 5-1 in game two.
KU will next play
Friday, March 28 as it travels to Millersville for a doubleheader
starting at 3:00 pm.

GAME 1: Kutztown 3, IUP 0
BOX SCORE
Katlin Arbogast
(so. Ambler/Wissahickon) threw a complete game shutout, allowing
only two hits and a walk while striking out eight batters to pick up
her 12th win of the season in the Golden Bears' 2008 home opener.
KU opened up the
scoring in the bottom of the first inning after Kim Morrison (jr.
Newmarket, ONT./Sir William Mulock) doubled to lead of the game.
Three batters later, Morrison was driven in on a Ashley
Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener, ONT/Resurrection) double, giving KU
the early 1-0 lead.
Fitzgerald and
Steph Denlinger (jr.
Harleysville/Souderton)
drove in insurance runs in the
bottom of the sixth inning to stretch KU's lead to 3-0, and Arbogast struck out the side in the top of the seventh to seal the
victory for KU.
GAME 2: Kutztown 5. IUP 1
BOX SCORE
In the second game
of the day, Kutztown's bats started off the game quietly, as the
Golden Bears managed just one hit through four innings.
IUP took a 1-0 lead
in the third when Brittany Allman scored on Kristen Tunno's single.
However, Caitlin Hague (sr. Landsdale/North
Penn) led off the bottom of the fifth with her first home run of the year, driving the first
pitch she saw over the left-centerfield fence, knotting the score at
1-1.
KU's bats came
alive in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Denlinger reached on
a fielder's choice, and was driven in by Krista Cameron (jr. Formosa,
ONT./Sacred Heart). Hague struck again two batters later, as she
doubled in Cameron, running the score to 3-1. Krista Tedjeske (fr.
Summerhill/Forest Hills) singled and scored on a throwing error
by IUP's catcher. Hague advancing to third on the error, and was
driven in by Angela Domenici (fr. Kunkletown/Pleasant Valley) making the score 5-1 in favor of the Golden Bears.
Monica Glomb (fr.
Mars/Mars) came in relief of starter Mary Hoch (Somerton/St/
Hubert) with a runner on second base in the top of the fourth
inning, and went on retire the side. She allowed just two hits
over the final four innings, striking
out two Crimson Hawks. Glomb improves to 5-2 with the win.
