Arbogast strikes out 12 in one-hit shutout of Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Golden Bears took an early 1-0 lead and piled on eight more runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to down the Marauders 9-0 in six innings in the first game of their doubleheader Friday at Pucillo Field.

Katlin Arbogast (so. Ambler/Wissahickon) took care of the defense, holding Millersville to just one hit and two walks. Arbogast struck out 12 in her 13th win of the season. It was her seventh double-digit strikeout game this year.

KU’s offense was powered by four home runs, coming off the bats of Denlinger, Krista Cameron (jr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart), Maggie Reifsnyder (fr. Philadelphia/Littleflower) and Kathy Gregg (sr. Narvon/Garden Spot).

The scoring, however, opened up with an RBI single from Ashley Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener, ONTARIO/Resurrection), who finished 2-for-4, to give KU a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Reifsnyder kicked off the home run parade with her two-run shot in the top of the fourth, plating Krista Tedjeske (fr. Summerhill/Forest Hills).

Cameron hit a two-run homer in the fifth, bringing home Maria Schiavo (so. Old Forge/Old Forge), who doubled to lead off the inning. Schiavo finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored.

Gregg and Denlinger both homered with two-run blasts to right field in the sixth to put the mercy rule into effect.

Denlinger's grand slam sets KU RBI career record

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. — The Golden Bears used two big innings and solid pitching from Mary Hoch (fr. Somerton/St.Hubert) to defeat the Marauders 9-0 in five innings in the second game of their doubleheader Friday at Pucillo Field.

Hoch held Millersville to three hits and struck out five in five innings of work.

KU scored five runs in the second and four more off of Denlinger’s grand slam in the fourth to put the mercy rule into effect.

Denlinger also had a two-run double in the second inning. She finished 2-for-3 with six RBIs and two runs scored.

Gregg and Schiavo had RBI singles in the second inning. Gregg singled in Tedjeske, while Schiavo knocked in Kim Morrison (jr. Newmarket, ONTARIO/Sir William Mulock), who scored two runs and had an RBI. Morrison reached on an error, and Caitlin Hague (sr. Lansdale/North Penn), who went 3-for-3, scored during the play.

Gregg, Morrison and Schiavo drew consecutive walks in the top of the fourth inning, and after Millersville made a pitching change, Denlinger stepped to the plate and blasted the ball over the right-field wall for the 9-0 lead.

With the grand slam, she passed Kellie Evans (2000-03) to take over the career school record in RBIs.
