Game 3
Bloomsburg 5, Slippery Rock 4 (9 innings) |
BOXSCORE
KUTZTOWN, Pa.
— Bloomsburg University came from behind to send game three of the
NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals to extra innings and Lori
Neyhard’s RBI single gave the Huskies a 5-4 win over Slippery
Rock University Wednesday at North Campus Field.
The second-seeded Huskies (49-9) were trailing 4-3 in the
bottom of the seventh to seventh-seeded Slippery Rock (27-16), but
Lacy Mauro led off the inning with a single and
advanced to second on an error.
She advanced to third on a groundout and headed for home on a
fly out to right field, but Slippery Rock’s Shardea Croes
delivered a perfect throw to the plate causing Mauro to turn around
and go back to third.
The Rock’s catcher dropped the ball and Mauro might have been
able to score, but it didn’t matter as Mandy Koch
reached on an error by the shortstop, plating the game-tying run.
Bloomsburg loaded the bases in the ninth and Neyhard’s
walk-off single scored Tara Reed for the game-winning run.
The Huskies were led by Ashley Lynn, who
pitched all nine innings, striking out 14. She allowed four runs —
three earned — on three hits and two walks.
Three of those runs came in the top of the sixth when

fence for the 3-2 lead. Jessica Ellebruch followed
Rhoades homer by reaching on an error and later scored on a throwing

Jordan Zeunges led off with a walk, stole second,

four of the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regionals Wednesday at
North Campus Field.
Third-seeded KU
(46-12) was held to four hits over the first six innings by
sixth-seeded Shippensburg (27-26), but a leadoff double in the
eighth by Maria Schiavo (so. Old Forge/Old Forge) set up the
game-winning play. Denlinger’s single in the following at-bat was
misplayed by the left fielder and Schiavo easily strolled home as
the ball rolled to the fence.
Schiavo finished
2-for-3 with a walk. Ashley Fitzgerald (jr. Kitchener,
ONTARIO/Resurrection) also had two hits for the Golden Bears,
while Krista Cameron (jr. Formosa, ONTARIO/Sacred Heart),

(so. Ambler/Wissahickon) led the Golden Bears in the circle,
pitching all eight innings for her 24th win of the season. She
struck out eight, while holding Shippensburg to four hits and three
walks.
Other than running
into trouble in the
first and fourth innings, Arbogast was solid against Shippensburg.
The Red Raiders opened the game with back-to-back walks, but
Arbogast settled down to record three straight outs. In the fourth,
Shippensburg strung together two one-out singles by Lori
Knopf and Sarah Stengl, but Arbogast forced
Lisamarie Ramagli to ground out and struck out Amanda
Bardo.
Stengl finished
2-for-3 for the Red Raiders.
Danielle
Shields started for Shippensburg, pitching 6.2 innings. She
allowed six hits and one walk. Knopf replaced her in the seventh
inning after KU had two runners on with two outs. Knopf got out of
the inning, but didn’t record an out in the eighth to suffer the
loss.

scoring on an error in the outfield after Erica Eisenbise
singled to left field.

the game with its first two batters reaching safely. Kayleigh
Braim was safe at first after an error by the first baseman

third on Deanna Valentino’s single to left field.
Braim, however, was
tagged out at home on a fielder’s choice, and Valentino, who
