KU TIES CALDWELL COLLEGE IN SIX INNINGS

LAKEWOOD, N.J. — The Kutztown University softball team finished in a 5-5 tie with Caldwell College on Sunday night at the Georgian Court Tournament.

The game was called due to darkness after the sixth inning was completed.

KU led 5-3 heading into the six bottom of the sixth, but Caldwell pushed across two runs to tie up the game.

The Golden Bears (33-6-1) were led offensively by Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge), who finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

In a three run third inning, Schiavo knocked in Michelle McGinty (fr. Warminster/Archbishop Wood) and a fielder's choice by  Kim Morrison (sr. Newmartket, ONT/Sir William Mulock) scoring Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham).

Schiavo then got knocked in by Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) to complete the scoring in the third. KU tacked on a run in the run in the fourth, after a consecutive singles by McGinty, Hannum and Schiavo.

Hannum finished 2-for-2 at the plate, collecting two RBIs and scoring a run.

Monica Glomb (so. Mars/Mars) got the start, pitching four innings and striking out five. She allowed only two runs while scattering eight hits.

Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert) and Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) each pitched an inning of relief, with each recording two strikeouts apiece.

The Golden Bears will host Lincoln on Monday in a doubleheader at North Campus Field starting at 2:30 p.m.


DENLINGER'S HOME RUN BEATS NYIT 6-4

LAKEWOOD, N.J. — A two-run home run by Steph Denlinger (sr. Harleysville/Souderton) in the top of the seventh broke a 4-4 tie in KU's win over New York Institute of Technology on Sunday at the Georgian Court Tournament.

Maria Schiavo (jr. Old Forge/Old Forge) led off the seventh with a single and scored on Denlingers two-run blast.

Denlinger finished the game 1-for-3 with two runs scored. The home run is her 17th of the season and the two RBIs put her at 44 on the season.

Krista Cameron (sr. Formosa, ONT/Sacred Heart) was the only Golden Bear (33-6) with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Heather Hannum (fr. Hatboro/Hatboro-Horsham) had a pinch-hit two-run homer in the fourth inning to give KU a 4-1 lead, which New York Institute of Technology tied up at 4 with three runs in the fifth.

Katlin Arbogast (jr. Ambler/Wissahickon) started the game, going 4 1/3 innings, but did not get a decision in the game. She allowed three runs, only one earned, on four hits and struck out two.

Picking up the win was Mary Hoch (so. Somerton/St. Hubert), who pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and collected the win. She gave up one unearned run, three hits and struck out three.

The Golden Bears will take on Caldwell College at 5 p.m. on Sunday night to wrap up the Georgian Court Tournament.
