Bloomsburg ends KU’s run in PSAC tournament
LOCK HAVEN, Pa.
— The Kutztown University softball team had its run for a first
Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament title come to an
end with a 8-1 loss to Bloomsburg University Sunday at Lawrence
Field.
The third-seeded Huskies advanced to the final where they fell 8-1
to No. 1-seeded Lock Haven.
The Golden Bears, ranked second in the tournament, were held to four hits and struggled early.
Bloomsburg jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and loaded the
bases in four of the seven innings.
Pitcher Mary Hoch started in
the circle for KU, but left after Bloomsburg took a 4-0 lead in the
first. Hoch did not retire a batter.
Katlin Arbogast closed
out the first, but the Huskies loaded the bases again in the second
and plated two more runs. Arbogast pitched six innings, allowing
four runs on eight hits and three walks.
Bloomsburg plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to take
an 8-1 lead. Tara Reed hit a solo homer in the inning. Reed finished
3-for-3 with three runs scored.
KU’s lone run came in the sixth when Krista Tedjeske
was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. The Golden Bears loaded
the bases on a single by Kim Morrison, a walk by
Steph Denlinger and a two-out single by Krista
Cameron.
Bloomsburg pitcher Shavaun Fisher, who struck out 11 batters to earn
the victory, forced a shallow pop out to end the threat.
Denlinger walked twice, and Maria Schiavo and Tedjeske
each had hits for KU.
The
Golden Bears will wait for the NCAA to release the seeding for the
Division II Atlantic Regionals.
